{Spoiler} Nice to know that some of those episodes actually take place after Aliens Among Us 3 for Rhys and Gwen.

Dear Big Finish,
What would I like for Christmas? A Rhys vs the Autons mini-series.
Please and thank you,
Melkur

This was great. The opportunity to take the Autons that little bit further than Doctor Who can was brilliantly used. They were properly disturbing/horrific in this. Here's hoping we get some sort of sequel to this in the Torchwood range

I may have to re-listen as I was perhaps a bit tired to fully enjoy it, however otherwise this meets the usual standards of Torchwood monthlies. Some fun and grim takes on the Autons and a juicy loose end as well.

Ooh that was fun, wasn't it?
Now, about that loose end...

Ok, first ever Torchwood release I actually hated. Loved Kai Owen and he never gives us a bad performance, but I was absolutely bored by this. There were some good moments, but overall...meh. And I'm so, so, so ,so tired of the heavy handed messaging. It took me right out of this story. I enjoy the Autons as much as the next person, but I hope we never revisit this mess of a story ever again.

BF want more contributions from our 'plastic'...

I enjoy the Autons as much as the next person, but I hope we never revisit this mess of a story ever again. Overall, I've enjoyed the Torchwood/Doctor Who Monster crossover more than I expected to. It's done good things to expand on the returning monsters, but little to further the Torchwood experience (not that a good story necessarily has to expand anything, of course). I'll be glad to get back to some Torchwood for Torchwood's sake next month. The ongoing God Among Us series proves that there's loads to be explored with the mix of characters and situations dreamed up by the writers without needing to add anything else.
I didn't hate this story by any means, but I wasn't massively enthused by it either, not in the way I've loved One Rule, More than This, Made You Look etc.
These last few releases have been good, but not among the best audio Torchwoods out there.

Just caught up on this one today and very enjoyable it was too! Kai Owen was great and it was nice to see him carrying the episode well. Strong supporting cast too.
I don’t have an issue about the anti plastics messaging, in fact I’m a bit worried about the micro granules in the food chain business...
Still, plastic apocalypses aside, roll on the sequel!

Listened again and...
Kai Owen is great as modest 'everyman' Rhys who claims he's "only a lorry driver" and then shows that like so many before him, he's a natural-born hero too when his moment comes. I liked Captain Anika and the 'recycled' Nestenes were a neat concept with Autons being hatched from plastic waste a good new twist on the Holmes original. Favourite moment: the suddenly 'gooey' keyboard!
But (and I am 100% on board the 'plastics are a global problem' ship, I've been recycling/reusing everything possible for years) I felt that like the unfortunate crew member on the bridge I'd also been pounded around the ears, by a heap of plastic messaging. A quick mention is surely enough and then let the story make its own point? I buy these audios (on a plastic CD, in a plastic case, shipped in a bubblewrap bag... ) for fun, not to be lectured over and over that plastic is evil, capitalism is evil, etc.
Two further points: Kaitlin was exactly the sort of 'activist' who gets my back up - born into wealth and social privilege, travelling the world on daddy's "ill-gotten gains" and lecturing other people (people without her freedom or family money) on how to live their lives. And since this story came with the TW 'warning' message, a bit more horrific horror would not have been out of place imo. Only the "bad language", inoffensive but rather pointless, stopped this one from being a DW.
Incidentally, I'm just old enough to remember the world in which - at least in the UK - milk and soft drinks came in glass bottles, fruit & veg came in paper bags or cardboard trays, meat was sold wrapped in greaseproof paper and even 'squishy' foods like blocks of ice-cream were sold in waxed(?) cardboard not plastic tubs. It really isn't rocket science to fix a lot of this problem without hurting the economy or our busy lifestyles. (Message ends. )

This is what I'm saying. It's just exhausting already.

This is what I'm saying. It's just exhausting already. And that was the reason I did not get this release when I heard about it. I have been part of my university's Ecology department back in the day and I am well aware of the issues. Some ecological message is also good, having it as a backdrop. What I hate, however, is if something is getting too preachy and in your face (no matter the message, be it ecological, religious or political). I find that annoying and patronizing.
People who listen to these things are old enough and I am pretty sure are aware enough of the problems.
What exactly is the purpose of dunking their heads into it repeatedly?

I might be in the minority here, but this is my favourite monthly Torchwood since Corpse Day. I just loved the entire cast, and while it was very political in its story, I found that they balanced it well with the comedy and horror mixed. Kai Owen is also still the best Torchwood member and I desperately need a Boxset of him on his own adventures! Rhys vs. The Scorchies anyone?
Also, in regards to the criticism of Kaitlin and the content warning. Kaitlin definitely grows from the rich activist to someone much more genuine and that I think was part of her character. As well, I don’t think this could have been a Doctor Who episode, because there very much was graphic content such as the crushed body that really sold the horror as well as the believability of it.
