So in only one of the three has he been doing their bidding The War Master follows Time Lord actions in Master of Callous too. Admittedly he does it rather more long winded and sadistic than necessary, but that’s absolutely perfect for his character.

While I'm disappointed that it seems that every master but MacQueen is getting airtime, I'm delighted that Gatiss is returning to the role. I also hope that there are many more War Master sets and appearances to come. 2019 has certainly become the Year of The Master. This alternative universe Master will be new to me as I have consciously avoided the Unbound releases. The absence of the MacQueen Master is somewhat shocking to my mind as he was the Big Finish Master and I really liked his take on the character. I will have to make sure I re-listen to UNIT Dominion this year to address the imbalance. For the love of Bod, BF! Bring back Raine Creevey!

Is it me, or is the terrifying trailer based upon The Power of the Daleks?

Is it me, or is the terrifying trailer based upon The Power of the Daleks? Ohhh, yeah, I can see it too. Power with at least 20% more lasers. Chris Thompson has been really nailing it with these recently, the teaser for The Robots has to be my favourite so far. There's this gorgeous feeling of nostalgia for a series I've never seen before (it conjures to mind mid-90s cutscene animatics; almost like a cross between Alpha Centauri and Command & Conquer). It's just incredible.

From the FlamesAn interesting start all in all. A surprising amount of focus is on Narvin atm and the Master is in his usual politely evil form, his plan falling into place is perversely satisfying. {Spoiler} Well people did wonder about Davros being involved. RIP.
One thing that’s slightly bugging me is Narvin’s rank. Here’s he apparently Acting Co-Ordinator and in frequent contact with President Livia...he was neither of those things in Gallifrey-Time War 1. They’re evidently trying to tie-in to that range by featuring Livia, but haven’t quite aligned.

I'll wait until some reviews come in before thinking about buying this. The range has been hit & miss for me.

And who knows what Narvin gets up to when Romana isn’t looking anyway, he’s not exactly the most trustworthy of allies.

The Master’s Dalek Plan
More good stuff all round, lots of elements from Genesis in the mix . {Spoiler} The Master on fine evil form whilst the Time Lords utterly fail to stop him. It all comes together with a suitable speech.

I always forget that there’s four stories in a set, so I’m pleasantly surprised each time! Can’t wait to get stuck in.

That was very good. Treads fairly softly on its Classic Roots with somewhat predictable results Excellent performances but maybe a bit excessive in having both Narvin and the Unbound Master in it. given how the story plays out. And I got a kick out of the very End 4/5 Regards mark687

Shockwave and He Who Wins{Spoiler} Shockwave is mainly repetition, by design, however this got a bit wearing after a while. The War Master’s side of the plot continued to bubble along nicely, his killing of the Doctor and then playing it back a nice moment.
He Who Wins was a nice exploration of what happened when the Master wins. The Master conquers the universe and gets bored and the Daleks begin to turn on their creator (annoyingly only in a vision of the future). But then we get aliens with annoying voices popping up. The scenes between the various iterations of the Master were neat and nice to have the Time Strategist getting some proper dialogue.
Gatiss’ Master was a welcome addition to the mix, however I can’t help but feel him destroying his universe kinda undermines the Warner Doctor’s accomplishments. Also really not sure what happened to him at the end...a random wormhole?
All in all a bit of a mixed bag, but I enjoyed it all overall.

Have to admit that Anti-Genesis is one purely horrifying serial, all the way to the very end, including the spectacular return of Mark Gatiss as the incredible Unbound Master.

For those of you who have listened, would you say that Genesis of the Daleks is required viewing?

For those of you who have listened, would you say that Genesis of the Daleks is required viewing? Not at all, it’s actually barely got anything to do with Genesis of the Daleks itself really. You just need to know the story exists and that it’s the Daleks’ origin.
