It really is exciting to have a whole new era open to us...I wonder if the old "He's not canon" brigade will give it a listen and base it on its own merits?

Not totally unexpected but still welcome news. I do think it is kind of like Big Finish starting to make 8th Doctor audios all over again. A Doctor who is more or less a clean slate with no real televised continuity to worry about except his beginning and his end. Otherwise, whatever BG wants to do. And what a surprise, Nick doing the writing & directing honors for the first box set. I guess because we know his entire era was during the Time War this gives him less of a clean slate than Paul had. It would be nice if the War Doctor could still have some standalone adventures somehow.

Nick Briggs writes some great stuff and some not so great stuff...just like everyone else really. Basically yes, although for me the hits outweigh the misses. Generally Nick's stories are very good, especially the ones with darker elements to them... and of course, nobody writes better Dalek stories. I reckon he could do with a bash with a Dalek sink plunger for the forum closure thing though... ... and don't ask me where I'd put the egg whisk!

Someone mentioned Jacobi above.... Has he been mentioned as being in it? That would be awesome!

I pre-ordered The War Doctor box sets after dancing on the ceiling in delight & after my mum ringing for the men in white coats to take me away.
I'll definitely be pre-ordering the Time War with the Eighth Doctor but not yet as 2017 is wayyyyyyyyy off.

Completely agree, although his recent Fourth Doctor conclusions Zygon Hunt & Return To Telos have been quite poor, hopefully this War Doctor set will be a return to Nicks Lucie Miller To The Death/Dark Eye's form.

Nick Briggs writes some great stuff and some not so great stuff...just like everyone else really. Nick is not only a writer & director but also a actor with a busy workload & is one of the busiest individuals in Doctor Who, maybe some of his stories suffer in quality because of this.

Here's a pic of John with Terry Gilliam from last night. He's obviously been through a lot the past few months but he's not stopped his work and has appeared at quite a lot of engagements. I know the film he's making with Gilliam - Don Quixote - had to be postponed due to John's health meaning the insurers wouldnt cover him for filming, but I'm sure before too long he'll be fighting fit.

From the box art it looks like we will be getting the older War Doctor close to the end of the War? Do you think we may get some stories with the young War Doctor, as seen in Night of the Doctor? It be good to see each box set take on a different aged War Doctor for it's covers.

Blimey he doesn't look too well, keep fighting the fight John you are the War Doctor after all, it's a testament to Johns courage & inner strength that he's recorded these audios & in doing so should bring great audio drama to us fan's of Big Finish.

I'm wondering what he's going to call himself if not the doctor

This is massively exciting news. Truly mind blowing.
I agree with Brians - the whole not the Doctor thing is going to be interesting. It sounds like the start of a Monty Python sketch to me.

This is reminding me of why I hate the concept of the War Doctor. It just doesn't make sense. What's he going to call himself? War?

How about "the Time Lord formally known as the Doctor ... ". He could do a Prince/Symbol and start using Rassilon's seal I guess everyone who knows him will still call him Doctor and he will say "that's no longer my name" ala Engines of War. Cheers Tony

Only just noticed that there are 3 stories in each set. I automatically supposed that there would be 4

Interesting new news story posted by BF www.bigfinish.com/news/v/thanks-for-the-war-doctor to me it seems a little odd. Not odd in a bad way as such, but odd because it says a lot and says nothing at the same time. I'm not sure if BF really just wanted to post a heart felt thank you for an overwhelming positive response, in which case they missed the mark, or perhaps its a post to apologise in the back log of responding to emails, in which case that news is buried as almost an after thought, perhaps it's a hesitant post effectively saying "wow, so many pre-orders, so much money!", or perhaps they are just totally overwhelmed and have no idea what they really want to say, just feeling that they needed to say something.

www.bigfinish.com/news/v/doctor-who-the-war-doctorLooks awesome, I'm excited to hear what they do. However, pissed off that yet again the download price is exactly the same as the CD & Download price. I'm going to order the CD version and then give them away. Yes, that's a bit odd. Surely the sentiment should apply to each and every release? They are, perhaps, using the cotton wool on the Nu-Who licence both for the sake of food PR from a potentially huge new market and for the BBC licensors who will surely be much more observant with ranges like this than say, Counter Measures.
