Still can't believe they've managed to get John Hurt as the first new series Doctor to do Big Finish audios. I always thought the first would be David Tennant; John Hurt seemed impossible given that he is a big film actor so likely wouldn't have the time. He must have really enjoyed playing the War Doctor.

This is massively exciting news. Truly mind blowing. I agree with Brians - the whole not the Doctor thing is going to be interesting. It sounds like the start of a Monty Python sketch to me. Argh! This is reminding me of why I hate the concept of the War Doctor. It just doesn't make sense. What's he going to call himself? War? John Smith

Yes, that's a bit odd. Surely the sentiment should apply to each and every release? They are, perhaps, using the cotton wool on the Nu-Who licence both for the sake of food PR from a potentially huge new market and for the BBC licensors who will surely be much more observant with ranges like this than say, Counter Measures. I thought it was more interesting that they mentioned that they had more announcements waiting in the wings. What could they have on the planning board or in the studio that they haven't yet announced? That's been BF standard for years - they always leave you with a "stay tuned for more" but in 2015, they've certainly followed through on the promise

Interesting new news story posted by BF www.bigfinish.com/news/v/thanks-for-the-war-doctor to me it seems a little odd. Not odd in a bad way as such, but odd because it says a lot and says nothing at the same time. I'm not sure if BF really just wanted to post a heart felt thank you for an overwhelming positive response, in which case they missed the mark, or perhaps its a post to apologise in the back log of responding to emails, in which case that news is buried as almost an after thought, perhaps it's a hesitant post effectively saying "wow, so many pre-orders, so much money!", or perhaps they are just totally overwhelmed and have no idea what they really want to say, just feeling that they needed to say something. I thought the announcement that they had more waiting in the wings interesting. What do they have on the planning board or already in the studio?

I have seen this and taken this to mean, that, as said before, I feel that BF are testing the waters, and, at some stage have to review ranges etc, it is logical by the nature of the output that is making its way to market from them now, that they are addressing areas within the licence they hold, which for all we know holds a lot more Nu Who and everything that entails. I just have a nagging worry that it will be at the expense of the established ranges, which I have grown to enjoy. I hope the quality of which is not somehow detracted and spread too thin. We will have to wait and see I suppose.

Unfortunately for people who enjoy the ranges, I could see Big Finish ending Counter Measures and Gallifrey as a result of the new series license because I doubt they're as popular as the new series releases will be. I'd be surprised if they don't drop any established ranges.

If they wanted to end Counter Masures, why would they announce two more CM relases for next year? Seris 4 ends in a way that could easily have wrapped it all up. We know now The War Doctor has been in production for over a year - in that year they've announced more Jago And Litefoot, Counter Measures, Gallifrey, Graceless, Iris and more.
There's really no point worrying about ranges being cancelled while they're still giving us the old favourites by the barrel-load.

In that scenario, then next year we can have the doom saying about Nu-Who causing fan-fave ranges to go the way of the dodo. For this year...the opposite is true. We're getting revivals of spin-off ranges like Iris and Graceless that we all thought were dead. No negatives on the horizon.

I can't see them ended ranges unless there is a clear replacement (i.e. CM becomes UNIT or whatever) or there is no more story to tell (which doesn't seem right) or they just don't make money anymore, and if it's for the later reason, then there is no way one could expect BF to continue the range regardless of whatever else they have going off.

I think the risk is that people stop buying some of the more peripheral ranges, causing BF to stop doing them. So while we might see one more go at some titles like Graceless and Charley P, if they don't sell well, that could be it for them.

I think things like Graceless and Charlie are always going to be under review, regardless of the current new output I would expect both of those ranges to have a somewhat limited shelf life, but I think the effect your talking about will be negated by the extra purchases they will gain from the curious new customers (i.e. I'd expect the overall impact to be between no effect and slightly increased sales).
I also think that sales of out lying spin off ranges will be harder hit by the loss of the forum, I suspect forum peeps made up a significant part of the sales of those ranges and I expect that a lot of us will for whatever reason now be less inclined to purchase or perhaps even notice new releases.

I don't think we stop being fans of what they do based on the ham fisted way they handled the closing of the forum. And I don't think most of us will suddenly become unaware of new releases and new ranges. Charley was already pushed back once with an active forum and most people presumed Graceless a dead range with a active forum. I loved that forum as much as anyone else and was truly sad to see it goes away but I really don't think forum talkers and/or lurkers really swing sales all that much. I could well be wrong but unless we ever see the numbers BF uses, we will never really know.

Well, I for one bought a huge amount of product from Big Finish purely because of my participation in the forum. When I started listening to Big Finish, I was only interested in MR and 8th Doctor titles and the Stargate audios. I had absolutely no interest in most of the the spin-offs and the non-Who related output. I only bought Dark Shadows, Jago and Lightfoot, The Companion Chronicles, Frankenstein and so many more because of the forums. I know I'm not the only one.

I have had the same fears about BF dropping or paying less attention to some of their existing series with NuWho coming up. I know I posted my fears about this affecting Blake's 7 on the BF Forum at one point.
And I'm also one that never would have gotten into anything outside of the main range, probably only Sixie at that, had it not been for the BF Forums.

I never thought I'd want a doctorate just so I could get a raise in order to fund my Big Finish addiction.
