Now you mentioned Vegemite I expect all our Aussie friends will be off to find a jar and make some toast! I remember the week I arrived and people made that old joke of offering me Vegemite in a Nutella jar (it is that overly sweet brown cocoa/ nut- paste many Germans are so fond of). Since I already knew about Vegemite, I just took it, spread it onto my toast and ate it without problem much to the disappointment of the onlookers.

Not my favourite release. I'm usually wary of 'mix and match' stories but this was worse than even I expected! The Web of Time in particular is arguably one of the worse releases ever. Watson was as uninvolved as it's possible to be and that exposition scene was painful.

Am about 3/4 of the way though An Unearthly Woman.
It is really great, and very nostalgic. 1. The concept of this box set is actually rather like the Terrance Dicks' novel The Eight Doctors except much better done. And the concept of a hunter put me in mind of Hunters of Earth, which is set at the same point in the Dr's timeline. 2. When they kept adjourning to the Red Lion I kept expecting Ellie to put in an appearance - wasn't she around at that time, as per J&L series 5? I still have about 10-15 mins of the episode to go, so maybe she will. 3. I don't know whether to be relieved or disappointed that they didn't use the scene from the teaser on the cover - River in her mother's WPC uniform!
I definitely prefer River in firmly anchored in the Whoniverse - wouldn't be so keen on a Doctorless standalone box set.

I enjoy what they have done with River but i would be on board if they wanted to take her in other Directions-I mean a meeting with Bernice and The Warner Doctor i would hopefully very much enjoy. This set I found very fun and very Nostalgic and though it gets some criticism it was a fun set of stories,River hasn’t reached her expiry date yet am listening at moment River 4-Someone i Once knew and am being thoroughly entertained

Of the Nu Who audio spin-offs I think the River Song box sets are the most consistent and volume 6 does little to change my mind. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first installment but had less to do with River and more with my indifference to the recast 1st Doctor team. That said, I think Fitton wrote a rather strong script. The middle two productions were a lot of fun with Peepshow being a lot more fun than I thought it was going to be. The highlight of the set ended up being The Talents of Greel. Tons of fun with HGJ and the world Robert Holmes set up.

As a fan of the new First Doctor set up I fell into it with ease and although I do play all the way through once I begin the discs .It still remains the firm favourite of the set. Looking Forward to not only many relistens but also the next release

So I caved and got this and you what it wasn't half bad I think Unearthly Woman took it right to the line (I did actually say Stop it at the Flirting Web of Time surprised me most an authentic sounding preview to a classic, and at one point a wonderful calling out of River. PeepShow This one should be on TV Its miles better then its parent EP IMO Talents of Greel Never underestimate HGJ plus it provides more emotional depth for Li Hen'Sen Chen Regards mark687

So I caved and got this and you what it wasn't half bad Welcome to the dark side Riverside! I loved this set, glad you found it worthwhile too.
And especially pleased someone else has enjoyed dorney's excellent prequel to 'Web', a thoughtful character piece under the Yeti action. (Surprised to see it only 3* in the poll.) Captain Knight essentially pushes River to question herself and her motives as the Doctor would much later do with his 'am I a good man'. Knight didn't have long in/around the Doctor's life, but he made a difference, I liked that.

Just finished "The Web of Time" I haven't read previous messages as there are two more stories to hear. So, sorry if this has been previously addressed. River goes to get this painting at it's last recorded location. My question is who recorded that? There did not seem to be anyone available. There would not have been a story if River arrived just a little earlier, so why at that precise time?

Someone at the location (a museum IIRC) would have catalogued its contents of the location prior to the evacvuation, and initiated an investigation/ insurance claim after the evacuation order was lifted and the painting was found to be missing.

Sounds good. I guess River, with her knowledge of the building collapsing tried to time that to be the cover, but cut it too close.

It’s been a year since it was done, but I recall it’s more complicated than that.
Basically the person who records it is Neon, using temporal tech. They can see the painting and trace its movements and in the original timeline it was destroyed in that house. (River is trying to take it out of time without disrupting the timeline, so is landing close to the time of its destruction).

Listened to these stories last week. It was interesting the way River was put on the periphery of well-known adventures of the First, Second, Third and Fourth Doctors. Enjoyed the set overall.
