Well..wasn't expecting that. Aside from the confirmation that there will be a sixth new adventures boxset for Benny and the Unbound Doctor next year, I'm also massively tempted to have a go. Now if I can just think of a story that hasn't already been done before... 🤔

Between this, the upcoming boxset being all-new writers, and the previous Benny competition, they're really opening up opportunities for new writers for the Benny range. I think it's a great move and a good counter to the growing complaint that Big Finish does tend to rely on the same writers a lot.

This is fantastic! I wish I was more of a Benny fan (and more of a talented writer, for that matter), but any rate, I *highly* recommend reading the asset pack they've posted. Even if you're not particularly interested in this character or opportunity, it's a really great resource for insight into the craft of audio drama and how things come together at Big Finish. Grab it here: bgfn.sh/bennypack

Ooh! Even though I haven't listened to enough Benny stories, I'm definitely a big fan of David Warner's Unbound Doctor. Will give it a try... 😁🤞

Hello again.
It's a very helpful guide written with a sense of humour by James Goss. I have always liked Bernice since her first outing in Love and War and of course I really like both David Warner's Unbound Doctor stories.
As to whether I am able to take up the challenge... I am not really able to write much at the moment due to my tablets. And yet, perhaps just the discipline of having a go at an audio script is too much to resist.
As always much kudos and the very best to anyone from the Divergent Universe who gives this opportunity a try. See you in September!

"HOW TO BENNY. FOR FUN, FRIENDSHIP AND MAYBE MORE," should be on a business card: This looks really fantastic. Problem is... I haven't the faintest idea if I know how to write for Benny's character or not. It's certainly tempting!

The guide is hands-down one of the best ideas BF has had. Hope we see a version for next year's Paul Spragg.

The guide is tremendously helpful. I remember with the first year of the Paul Spragg contest having absolutely no idea what they wanted and submitting stories that they probably wouldn't even consider (too comedic, too "big," etc.) and this nicely clarifies exactly what they're looking for.

I've not got a clue what it really takes to write a full story (or I might try!), but perhaps Benny's distinctive 'voice' will come to your keyboard if you can dream up of one of those slightly left-field 'Benny' situations and work on the plot? Good luck!
(What a nice idea from BF, and judging by the quality of the Paul Spragg stories, I think they might end up with a few Benny box sets-worth of great ideas and new writers!)

I don’t think I’ll enter as no idea comes to mind, but the asset pack’s quite an interesting read. I kinda want to hear Imposter Syndrome now.
And yay I guess this is confirmation another Benny/Warner Doc set is coming next year.

You definitely should, I think you've got more than a few good stories in you. I'm thinking through the Benny Summerfield tales that immediately come to mind -- Timeless Passages, Year Zero, The Adolescence of Time, The Draconian Rage, et al. -- and the ones that stick with me have some really well-drawn villains. Put Benny against some stiff competition and she can really shine. *taps lip* I wonder...?

I didn't think I was going to enter in this, but the fact there was a writing opportunity open got my creative juices flowing again. I think I've got a good idea that would work well for a Benny story, the only issue is it's not a Short Trip, is it? If I'm going to enter, I've actually got to write a sampler around 3,000 words long, then (if I'm extremely lucky) another 6,500 should I win (which I'm obviously not expecting, though if I'm going to enter I have to entertain the possibility). I've never written anything that long before, so it's kind of a daunting prospect. I think my idea's got legs though, so I think I'm going to give it a go. The synopsis is pretty much good to go at this point, so I guess I should make a start on the script itself (something else I've never written before). If nothing else, this should be a fun learning experience

(And good luck everyone - I'm rather excited by this and I'm not even entering! This being an open competition, let's hope BF make the winning synopsis/script available as DL extras like they do with the Paul Spragg stories, it would be interesting to see a bit more behind the scenes of the creative process for a full cast audio.)
