So many wonderful Doctor Who stories. Maybe not his greatest, but what he'd accomplished in pulling together The Five Doctors special despite the behind-the-scenes nightmare was a testament to his drive, work ethic and creativity (it'll always be a personal favorite). Thank you and RIP, sir.

Hello again.
How sad. His contribution to Doctor Who was immense. I only recently saw his tv work as script editor with Barry Letts as producer. They produced an era of Who that was distinctive and entertaining.
The War Games is a favourite story of mine as is The Horror of Fang Rock and Brain of Morbius. His contribution to the Target novelisation were my only access to older Who. Some of the stories were so much better than their tv equivalents.
My favourite story is Timewyrm:Exodus a really scary evocation of Nazi Britain with the Seventh Doctor running rings around the SS.
Finally, his jolly presence in Who interviews will be missed. Farewell and thank you, you will always be a bright star in the Who firmament.

One of the single most influential figures in the history of who, he shall be sorely missed.
I'll be reading abominable snowman tonight in his honour.

"Indefinable magic" is a phrase that was often conjured up to describe Doctor Who's own special something. A je ne sais quoi for Qui Quae Quod. Well, for all magic, there must be a magician and Terrance Dicks is one of the finest.
He forged memories of moonscapes and space cities that would outlast the permanency of sets or costumes. He developed the tenants of never cruel, never cowardly. Helped change the nature of the show forever in the Doctor's first overt confrontation with his people. His influence is enormous. His hand firmly placed on what Who is, what it was and what it could be.
Uncle Terrance, we will miss you. But you, your writing and that indefinable magic will never be forgotten.

In a sad coincidence, I've been watching 'Planet Of The Spiders' over the past few days (I'll be watching parts 5 & 6 after my bath/before bed)...
RIP 'Uncle' Terry and 'thank you for your time'.

Another lovely Doctor Who name gone. Before Blu Rays, DVDs and even VHS, the only way of revisiting favourite Doctor Who stories was by reading the novelisations. I'm happy to say that my bookcase was full of more books written by Terrance Dicks than any other author, before or since! Bless you, Uncle Terrance, and your stories of Jon Pertwee's hair, the genesis of Genesis of the Daleks, working with Barry Letts and 'Saward's bloody Cybermen.'. RIP.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

On a more literary note, Mr Dicks’ novelisations often sent me to the dictionary or the encyclopaedia or out looking for other writers: he had an easy style but just occasionally threw in a reference that would have been easy to skip over because it didn’t take anything away from the story but instead added some depth or new level to what was being expressed. He was one of the first writers I read who did that and didn’t make me feel like an idiot. And when I learned about intertextuality later in life I instantly understood what it was thanks to Terrance Dicks.
He was also a very giving writer: nobody wants to write a bad story, obviously, but even when he just churned out books he always tried to patch up holes or add bits that cleared up loose ends and in a way that never shortchanged or humiliated the original writer (except maybe for The Android Invasion).

Just last night I was thinking about how much the man had done for the program as I've reached The Invasion in my Troughton marathon. And what a complete legend he was.
I love his brisk adventurey prose style but somehow I've never actually read any of his Target novels! I'll have to rectify that in the coming weeks, I think.
Thanks for everything, Terry.

What a hero. I - like many - owe my love of reading to him. As a kid I was rarely seen without a book in my hand, as often as not, one of his. He got me into the habit of reading. For that alone I will be forever grateful. He also fired something in me that made me want to be a writer. So, I owe him my career as well. I think you'll find a lot of folks who have written Doctor Who who would say the same. What an absolute hero. RIP, rest well, and thank you, Uncle Terrance.

Oh, man. I'm gutted to hear that. I know he lived to a ripe old age, but it's never fun saying goodbye. Uncle Terrance was one of the all-time best in the business, and to this day any TV writer can learn something from him. Truly one of the greatest ambassadors this franchise and this fanbase ever had. I don't know what else to say.

For years, I was aware that he novelised most of the Classic serials (including his own), but what pleasantly surprised me about his writing was the On Target: Terrance Dicks DVD extra on my Season 12 Robot Blu-ray disc. That was how I became more and more interested in trying out the Target novelisations, especially when the other writers/fans interviewed discussed the amount of comprehensive detail he elaborated upon in each book; more in-depth than what was originally filmed.
