Both surreal, somewhat twisted episodes that test the Ponds, but which edges out for you?

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

The Girl Who Waited is my preferred viewing. Amy’s Choice feels like Doctor Who written by someone who hasn’t really understood Doctor Who: it’s a premise that could be inserted with very little effort into any other genre show.

I liked them both. I think I hold them both in equal esteem, they both showcase the Amy-Rory relationship well and also show different sides to the Amy character. Man, I miss Amy and Rory. I wish they would return to BF, but I am aware that there is not really a chance right now...

Amy's Choice but it should have been a 2 Parter.
Part 1 set almost entirely in the Village and the Home with the Dream Lord insisting the Doctor's a delusional Patient and Amy's resistance at being Pregnant trigging the cliff-hanger reveal of the TARDIS scenario.
The Girl Who Waited is just a silly premise. Arrive somewhere during a crisis that would actually kill Timelords, not just trigger regeneration, would kill the Doctor outright if he stepped outside, (fill a few Dalek Warheads with some of the planet's atmosphere that's the Time War done), also with both Amy's running co-currently of course young Amy's existence is assured and old Amy is a temporal anomaly so there's no tension anyway.

I honestly cannot remember anything of the Girl who Waited - despite checking online just now to jog my memory. Watched once only on transmission. I like Amy's Choice though and felt it stood up to a re watch perfectly well. Some nice sinister atmosphere and music in the Village and an Inception style dream state. I also thought Toby Jones put in a very good turn as the Dream Lord - a Valeyard-esque version of the Doctor, but with more recognisable traits as clues more clearly appreciated on second viewing. Really, it is more akin to a BF Main Range tale in many ways and I can imagine it quite easily as an Audio piece with either Davison or McGann doing a dual role. I accept that many prefer the Girl who Waited and will dig it out for a revisit. I guess it is Amy's choice for my as it caught my attention and had a neat resolution.

Hello again.
Well, I liked Amy's Choice. The Dream Lord was excellent, really made me laugh.
The Girl Who Waited was one of those times were the Doctor was brought up short by a companion. Both Rory and Amy tell him how his decisions effect them. The frightening feeling of being abandoned is well realised by Karen Gillan.

I'm gonna have to go wth The Girl Who Waited... as I didn't think much of Amy's Choice. In fact, I didn't think much of Amy either. But of those two poor episodes, I found The Girl Who Waited to be a bit more watchable.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t love either episode. Though Karen was quite good as an older version of herself.

Amy's Choice, easily. From what I remember of The Girl Who Waited (it's been a year or more since I last saw it), Amy chooses the wrong 'stream' and gets stuck. She then expects the Doctor to maintain his promise to come and get her. Both Amy and Rory know that the Doctor doesn't have that level of control over the TARDIS, and then they both turn on him and make it all his fault when he gets it wrong. I'll accept stories where the blame is genuinely on the Doctor, but he did his best here and is still made out to be the one who got it wrong (when it was in fact Amy when she chose which stream to enter without asking which one the others had selected!).
Amy's Choice is also just a lot better story, in my opinion. It's fun when it needs to be, it's dark when it needs to be, and has a great villain in the form of Toby Jones. It's probably in my top five Eleventh Doctor stories.
