So is everyone excited for the inevitable return of Christopher Eccleston to Doctor Who. I watched the panel in New York, he seems pretty open to being the Doctor again, and Big Finish being Big Finish, I'm sure it'll happen then.

Mr. Briggs has said that when/if it's all signed sealed and delivered, we "all" will know. They will shout it from the rooftops basically

I don't think it's inevitable. Chris' recent convention appearances, and his positive mentions of them in his autobiography, are encouraging - I would say the prospects of him reprising the role for BF look far better now than they did not long ago - but there's still a big difference between them and playing the Doctor again in an official capacity.

No, I'm not overly excited. I love the Ninth Doctor. He was the first one I got a chance to watch every week (since poor Eight didn't get a fair shake).
I think Chris gave a brilliant performance. But, Nine was basically the healing process for the Doctor's battle scars. And so, he had a pretty distinct, tight character arc over the course of that season.
Frankly, I don't want to dilute that with another hundred stories wedged into it. And while Big Finish generally works to a high standard, everyone here knows that when it comes to continuity gaps, "enough's enough" is not in their vocabulary. Outside of a select few that fit in with the Series 1 arc, I'd probably give them a pass just like I've ignored all the other Nine tie-in material.

Reading his new autobiography, which focuses a lot on his father, he writes about how much his father enjoyed radio drama ...

I'm more hopeful now than at any point since CE left the show but no, I agree....it isn't inevitable.

Coming to peace with his role on TV, and wanting to reprise it for a very, very small section of the audience....I don't see that being inevitable. I'd say it's liklier than a year ago but not inevitable.
I honestly think as a fandom, we're a bit entitled due to almost all the classic era actors jumping on (and staying on) the BF train. A lot of the "New WHo" actors are much more in demand with careers all over the world including the lucrative US market in TV and film. I think long term we'll need to get used to the notion we won't have as much of a selection box from the revived series as we did for the classic. I'll just try and enjoy what we can get.

Personally, I wouldn’t be adverse to more Ninth Doctor adventures in general. Even if Eccleston (and rightly so) doesn’t want to reprise his role. Believe it or not, but I rather enjoyed the Ninth Doctor Chronicles and grew to rather like Brigg’s interpretation.

I think this is distressingly accurate. The classic series Doctors and Companions are not getting any younger and in many cases struggle to capture their earlier selves, one cannot help but admit - voices age. But there is hope that, say a few years from now, that the post 2005 series will take over in terms of Audio continuations full cast wise. But then, think of how nearer 1999 was to the JNT era Doctors. They have admittedly aged during the Main Range releases, its over half a lifetime for Peter Davison since his time and Colin & Sylvester were also quite fresh faced in their day compared to now - all kudos to David Tennant in establishing the thread with BF to the revived series without too much of a gap. One day, they will return. Yes, one day. Just imagine Matt Smith on audio as the Doctor again, for one example, in years to come, recapturing his youthful energy and optimism.

If Chris does join up, then I will simply pre-order everything!
He did a sterling job on tv, he really did. And on audio, he would be just amazing.
Whatever his decision, I can only wish him all the best.

Not likely at all, in fact Eccelston has flat out said he doesn’t want to return to do Big Finish at his book signing in Salford tonight. He says he’s very proud of his 13 episodes but he doesn’t wish to go back to the role due to his experiences.

Caveat to this, he might be up for non-Doctor Who roles with Big Finish depending on what they ask. Well, that’s fair enough. I wish him nothing but the best for the future regardless.

Well said, we as an audience were lucky for his portrayal being so influential, and while it is natural to want more, Chris has been more than generous with the fandom.

Thanks for the info. Certainly, one can't fault a fellow if he feels once bitten twice shy and it's also very understandable that a lot of New Series performers have very busy careers. I really do wish very much that Chris would reprise the Ninth Doctor for Big Finish but that's his decision and I respect it whatever he decides.
I'm probably going to want more Ninth Doctor Chronicles though.

I wouldn't rule it out completely, Tom after all spent more than 10 years saying no, and now he can't get enough of Big Finish!
