Let's just say the rights were not with Disney and BF could do an adaption... would people like that?
The original TV adaption is forever tinged with sadness because of the freak car accident that killed Charlotte Long (Eloise). Tragedy didn't stop someone on Roobarbs describing her as "quite a hottie" in a thread on roles that were recast. (they dismissed her brief replacement Cindy Shelley (who was five years older than Charlotte) as "that gawky toothy bird from Howard's Way").

I have the two original BBC series on DVD and still watch them. It's a slow adaption in places but I really don't mind that. The atmosphere of the world under the Tripods was very convincingly realised, especially in scenes like those set in France.
I would love for BF to adapt the trilogy (and actually bring the story to its natural end, which the BBC didn't have chance to do). Their adaption of The Martian Invasion of Earth shows what kind of incredible sound designs they are capable of, and if they were ever to do a version of The Tripods, they'd have at least one guaranteed sale!

I would love a good adaptation of The Tripods as well, although the TV series took a lot of liberties with the books - the first two are considerably slimmer than the episodes would suggest. A good audio adaptation may possibly have to do the same.

Yeah, it wasn't Cindy's fault that Charlotte Long was dead and I think that Cindy wasn't "plain", she was Plain Beautiful.
