So, looks like we’re getting a BBC approved departure for Ace in February next year as part of “At Childhood’s End” by someone called “Sophie Aldred”.
anyway, Ace is the only companion to have at least four departure stories.
Can they all be made to make sense?
well, let’s find out....
the elephant in the room is DWM and the fact they killed Ace. Specifically a young, not Space-Bitch, Ace. We could ditch this as an alternative timeline, except the comics are connected to the New Adventures and Big Finish.
so here’s the explanation - The Time War. The Threshold, the villains of the piece, are using Time Lord technology. I can imagine the Time Lords not wanting the Threshold to side with the Daleks, so dropping the Time Lord equivalent of a nuke on their history. Voila, no Threshold no dead Ace.
and I promise that the Time War won’t be used again as an explanation.
That leaves the PDAs, the NAs and BF.
Could BF Ace become Space Bitch Ace? Not likely, she’s been through worse than three years of War with Daleks. But here’s a thought.... War with the Daleks? A hardened time warrior who knows how to fight Daleks? Okay, I lied. The Time War is back. Pernicious thing that. Let’s shelve that thought for a moment, and shelve this nugget from “Cold Fusion” (Big Finish version) the Doctors know about their inevitable role in “Day of the Doctor” and the seventh Doctor is a manipulative prick.
PDA Ace could become BF Ace, there only a few adventure to add to Ace’s full BF life.
PDA Ace could become NA Ace, again with the above rationale.
I favour BF as being “the core Ace” because she’s played by Sophie Aldred and the BBC has a lot of say in the goings on in BF Towers, and BF companions are mentioned in “Night of the Doctor”. So that leaves PDA or NA as existing to add flavour to that Ace.
and NA Ace is alluded to in BF stories.
But that means Ace has lived a lot of live in very few years, far too much life in far too few years.
However, there are a number of clones or duplicates of Ace, at least a Dalek one and a shapeshifter from the early NAs.
And now we come back to Space Bitch Ace as being “not likely to exist” based on BF Ace’s experiences. Ace in “Timewyrm: Genesis” has just lost her memories and are having them rebooted by the TARDIS.
Or could it be a clone being created by the Doctor at the behest of the Time Lords to create a weapon for the War? He did put a mental command into her to make her leave - and fight in the Dalek Wars perhaps?
So now we have “real Ace” who travelled with seven, Hex, Mel etc and Time Warrior Ace who travelled with Seven, Benny and was sent to Gallifrey.
Seven would do something like that if he thought it would help win the War. He was, remember, a prick.
