I just realized that "What" is considered rude in the English language. It's a class thing. To say "What?" instead of "Pardon?" is considered rude, but to say "Pardon?" instead of "What?" is considered common. Some people call a spade a spade. Some, more refined persons, prefer instead to describe it as a spatulous device for abrading the surface of the soil. Others call it a bloody shovel.

With reference to your edit, I would just point out that when Donna appeared in the TARDIS in her wedding dress and the spaceship Titanic crashed through the walls a year later the Doctor used 'What?' to state his surprise not once but three times...and as far as I recall no one in the UK was mightily offended by it. It is perfectly fine in English too. 😊 Well, I have been away from NZ for 3 years now, however, I remember being told off more than once. But in the very beginning, I just used the formal "haeuh?" we use in my region, which is also considered rude in other parts of Germany.
"What" is a huge improvement on that. I just wanted to avoid stepping on toes, since we had this misunderstanding yesterday, where a member was upset because another non-native speaker member used a clumsy phrase inadvertently. And I very often forget myself to be considerate and have caused some unintentional misunderstandings myself. Just this once I remembered. I didn't know my phrasing would upset you that much.

Yes, "pardon" is considered more 'polite'/'proper' English in the same way that "Sean and I" would be more proper than "me and Sean," but English is flexible. It's very, very easy to ask "what" or "what's that?" (or similar) without it being rude in the slightest. Of course, if you say it in a rude tone, that totally reframes what you just said. In the words of people wiser than I: "sometimes what you say is less important than how you say it."

Which makes it so hard on a written forum because nobody can see if I write my words down with a smile or an angry face.
This is why we sometimes have misunderstandings.

But does the Master deserve a pardon?

But does the Master deserve a pardon? Well, according to the Doctor he does. How else could we explain that he lets the Master get away so often and with so much?

I really hope Jon Culshaw's reading the audiobook. Really hope. Be a good way to get as close to Delgado (and Ainley) in this set. Plus a perfect Brig and a superb 3. But I sadly assume it'll be Katy Manning due to her connection with Terror of the Autons, whom I adore as an actor and person and Jo but I mean....it won't be the same considering how not like Pertwee, Delgado or Courtney she sounds. What? Katy is brilliant. She gets the tone of voice and inflections and verbal ticks of both the Brig and the 3rd Doctor very well. Yes, she has a female voice, but otherwise she does an amazing job. I really enjoy all her Short Trips and Companion Chronicles.
But we have discussed this before in another thread, what is more important to people- a voice that sounds like the actor they are impersonating or if it is fine for them to do a good act and catch the essence so to speak. Katy really catches the essence and I definitely prefer her to Jon Culshaw.
Edit- I just realized that "What" is considered rude in the English language. Since we had a translation misunderstanding between different nationalities yesterday. It is perfectly fine in German. So for the more sensitive inclined, "I beg your pardon". Don't worry, I didn't think you were rude haha. Again, I love Katy Manning, and for audiobooks, Short Trips, Companion Chronicles and everything she's wonderful. She's a fantastic reader, and she does capture the essence of Pertwee. It's more just that for this one, very specific audiobook, which involves Three, The Brig, and The Master (in which Culshaw does a decent impression) and for a set that is dedicated to The Msater, I'd prefer it to be him than Manning as it would lead for a more authentic reading to me. Otherwise though I do adore Manning and think she does a brilliant job.

Honestly I would love it if they went CC style. Depending on if its Thir person Perhaps have Culshaw Narrate with Katy doing her voice and any female voices.
Or..... They might have Beevers do it. He does an amazing Delgado! The name escapes me but he narrated the 3rd Doctor book from the 50th.

I hope the packaging is something more lucrative than The Legacy of Time! I prefer The Legacy to Time digipak packaging over the previous cardboard-only limited edition booklets that housed special releases such as: The Light at the End and The Last Adventure. Yes, you do regrettably lose those extra pages of pictures, but the plastic trays offered within The Legacy of Time set is far superior in NOT scratching the MEAT of the product...the all important discs! On the bright side for some, The Legacy of Time limited edition will now probably have a matching set of the same physical mass. That’s fine and I’m glad you like it. Personally, I saw no reason why the Legacy of Time set couldn’t have been released in the usual CD packaging, which indeed it later did. A shame that Big Finish never even hinted at a standard release after the packaging shots of the limited edition had been revealed. Even two four disc foldouts in a slipcase would’ve been lucrative and be the same dimensions as the majority of other Big Finish releases. Certainly in line with the many ranges that crossed over in that release. Each to their own, though.

Big Finish website. The details of each disc are as follows D1-D3 - Masterful D4 - Masterful - behind the scenes D5 - Short Trips: I Am The Master and Short Trips: The Switching (both previously available) D6-D8 - a new, narrated audiobook featuring the Third Doctor, the Master and UNIT Blimey, I didn’t realise that Masterful was only three hours. I must have misread. I’m intrigued about the audiobook as that’ll be the difference between getting the standard or the limited edition, though I’m wary of Big Finish deciding to release it standalone at a later date, even if it’s download only.

That was probably the best Third Doctor audio adventure I have listened to. Simply because Geoffrey Beevers “one man show”, I Am The Master, is included I doubt he will be on narration duties. If he was, he would be on every disk! Which isn’t a bad thing, but with so many Masters it would be a surprise.

I enjoyed the discussion above about 'what' and 'pardon'.
Another good multi-use English word is 'sorry'; we Brits use 'sorry' quite a lot, it's a very useful word...
'Sorry.' (I genuinely apologise.) 'Sorry.' (You are clearly in the wrong but it's minor and I've more important things to do than explain or argue with you when you are obviously beyond help.) 'Sorry!' (Please move out of my way can't you see I'm trying to get past you with my arms full of shopping while you just stand there gawping at your mobile?) 'Sorry?' (Was any part of what you just said even supposed to make sense?) And of course the classic, 'Sorry, but...' (I'm going to explain why I'm right and I'm not even remotely sorry for doing so!)
EDIT: This is all wayy off-topic of course. Sorry. (Here meaning: I know I'm a bit out of order posting this OT waffle but not very much, so if I say 'sorry' even though I'm not I'll be given a free pass. It is a useful word! )
EDIT2: On topic, we can't have too much of the Beevers Master imo, so if it turns out that Geoffrey Beevers is indeed on every CD, I'll be very pleased indeed! He's a brilliant audiobook narrator - his 'DW & The Terror of the Autons' and 'DW & The Doomsday Weapon' Target audiobooks, for example. Superb.

I dunno, a discussion about the different meanings of language and how it can be twisted seems quite fitting for a tribute release to a master of manipulation and twists.

Well, while I certainly would not mind Beevers as the narrator, or any of the other Master actors (as long as it is not Roberts... just do not think he would be that good as an audiobook narrator to be honest), Katy remains my number one choice. However, I am also partial to the idea mentioned above of a Companion Chronicle style reading with two actors. We will have to wait and see...

Yep the three of them would be truly triumphant and make the special edition even more enticing. I would suggest The Final Game, but following a quick internet search to see if there was a book ready for adaption, I see there is a fan made audio already out there, so I guess that makes that final confrontation unlikely.
