Hello again.
Oh yes, The Last Leg, had great fun taking the mickey out of both Messrs Corbyn and Johnson and the tv audience tweeted in their votes of Richard of the decade, David Cameron! Also more seriously, they plan to work with the government to try on improve the assessment process for PIP and incapacity benefit. Hope something good comes of it.

'Richard' of the decade - oh I get you! This is worth a smile, for all those who get the 'Fast Show' reference, whatever your allegiances:

Hello again. Nice one Daver! I used to love The Fast Show, it was my Friday night wind down after a busy week teaching. Some great comedy performers and writers including Paul Whitehouse, Arabelle Weir, Charlie Higson, Mark Williams and the much-missed Caroline 'Scorchio" Ahearne.

A fellow Teacher eh ? - seems there are a few of us lurking on this forum! "Isn't it though? Marvellous."

Hello again, Yes Daver, in a previous existence I was a primary school teacher in Key Stage 2, (7-11 year olds). I taught for seven years including a couple of years on supply, until during my first week back of a summer term when I became gradually more and more eccentric and went on to suffer a full-blown manic episode and a 6 week hospital stay. The only good thing was I finally knew why I was either high in mood or depressed and never anything in between. * I really miss it but have volunteered in my local primary school. I even tried to retrain as teaching assistant, but was unable to finish the course. What do you teach Daver? Best wishes, "This week I shall be mostly eating... mince pies!"
* Edit:bipolar disorder

Hi again Doctorkernow, thanks for asking. I am a secondary and sixth form teacher of ICT and Computer Studies. Been teaching for 15 years or so, but currently 'on a break' from the profession due to disillusionment with the way things have changed, as I love teaching but have had enough of bad management and diktak from the imposition of passing trends. I have a Masters in teaching and have too often felt weary as passing fads are given undue prominence whilst nothing is done to tackle declining parental discipline, behaviour, motivation of students, except to pass the problem down the line to the classroom teacher. As ICT was discontinued as a compulsory subject, students placed on the alternative option courses, were too often dependent on spoon feeding to stand any chance of obtaining aspirational target grades, with no support, and all the blame, when the failed to attain these. I am presently considering either returning as a HLTA, special needs teacher, or a more focused return to IT related work - anything that does not present the emotional stress, pressure and long hours that Teaching impacted on myself. It used to be great, but by heck it has changed for the worse this past few years. Being out lately has been like getting a life back again. Edit: forgot to add - I am sorry to learn that the Job got to you too. I think it is a sad state the way Teaching has become recognised as one of the most stressful occupations. Like Nursing, it is underpaid and as with Policing, under supported with too much individual accountability (blame) and not enough back-up resources. But hey - its a 'vocation' - people do it for a sense of fulfilment so why pay them more?

Hello again Daver,
Secondary school teacher? You deserve a medal from a grateful country mate. I have three teenagers and its obvious from the tales they come home with, is that the respect for teachers from pupils is nearly non-existent. Your right about the passing fads, from the late 80s, three different versions of the National Curriculum, the literacy hour, the numeracy hour, changes to the GCSE grade system. Government can't resist interfering and tinkering. I felt exactly the same, when I had a break from it before going on supply for a couple of years. You realise there is a world outside the treadmill of the school system. During an OFSTED inspection, I hardly slept for a week, often going into school, with no sleep.
I wish you well, with whatever you decide to do next Daver. You have to do something that rewards the work you put in, with the inordinate pressure teachers are put under it is not surprising you're thinking of taking our skills elsewhere. Hope something good turns up.

The 'Kids are running the show now', is a phrase I have heard from others as a way of expressing things. I guess its all on topic for this thread really, concerning the state we are in....

Hmmmm...while Johnson may claim due diligence was performed in the checks before Mehra's appointment, the timing of this speaks volumes. Seems It really is the most wonderful time of the year...to quietly bury controversial announcements.
