After the government has stonewalled literally every media today (apparently no ministers were available), things have now escalated. Edit-Full story in The Guardian: Attachment Deleted

Hello again.
This seems to be a government that cares very little for fairness. There are so many examples of ordinary people being ground under the feet of an overmighty state. The recent report on the DWP and their treatment of disabled people is another example.
Yet all Mr Johnson is interested in building grand vanity projects. A bridge from Scotland to Northern Ireland? I thought it was an April Fool! What is wrong with the man?
Labour need to get their act together. As I keep saying while the opposition are in disarray the government cats will play all day.

True, but it isn't surprising. We've had a decade of this!

Wonder what people in (esp. Southern) Scotland, Ireland and Northern England think of the bridge idea?
I remember the scorn that the Channel Tunnel got back in the 70s (there had been one modern failed attempt already) but we wouldn't want to be without it now.
Same as HS2, and the motorways in their day. And smaller projects like various new bridges of the past 30/40 years.
Big infrastructure usually causes rows and often delays and cost overruns - and then people wonder how we ever managed without it.
Britain's problem compared with other countries isn't what we build, it's what we don't.
(This is intended to be a non-partisan comment btw even though this is a very partisan thread!)

From the man who brought London the doomed Garden Bridge project. Another disastrous idea!

There’s good news on that- Let's hope things work out. With this & the judgment on Shamima Begum this country is drifting into the clutches of racist fascism.

From the man who brought London the doomed Garden Bridge project. Another disastrous idea! My post was non-partisan and applies to most post-war governments equally, but yes, you're right - he did! So by that logic, clearly for as long as he's PM there should be no government-funded infrastructure projects, right? Including HS2 which it seems will finally get the (finally final) go-ahead tomorrow.
Not on this topic, but this thread seems a relevant place to raise it: perhaps you might want to consider if your current signature/tagline is acceptable within the forum rules? Soapboxing, campaigning and advertising are all specified as not acceptable.

Are you a mod? No. You are not. So kindly keep those opinions about my signature to yourself, or message me privately, or report it to a mod. & of course I am not saying there should be no government funded infrastructure projects. But the idea of this bridge is ridiculous.

But the idea of this bridge is ridiculous. Correct, I am not. I dislike PMs on an open forum and I had thought not to trouble the mods.
You may well be right about the bridge, but as I said earlier, people said much the same about the Channel Tunnel when restarting that was proposed in the 70s. I vaguely recall thinking it was a daft idea when the Tunnel got the go-ahead in the 80s, but I was obviously wrong and that taught me to be less sceptical about seemingly 'impossible' projects just because they seem spectacular. In the case of the bridge, not a clue whether it would be feasible or good value, but I'm hesitant to automatically assume not when I don't know. Hence my original post.

Sajid Javid has resigned. Going to be an awful lot of ex ministers on backbenches with knives out for Boris ... Huge majority keeps them at bay. It sounds like the Javid Incident was a set-up. He got an ultimatum to remove his advisors, he refused and resigned. Rishi Sunak has now been installed, an ultra-loyalist who will accept the merging of No 10 and No 11 advisors and effectively capitulate to No 10’s demands. It’s a power play which, whilst it may seem messy, has actually worked out in Johnson/Cummings’ favour.
