Looking forward to this one; I'm expecting it to have a very RTD-feel. And, if nothing else, this should be somewhat entertaining because of the Judoon.

Main reason I'm excited is Vinay Patel coming back - wrote probably my favourite episode since Heaven Sent with Punjab, and I'm interested to see him do something more action-y. Yes, there's a part of me that does lament not getting another searing drama like last series, but I also get that Patel wouldn't want to be typecast as just a serious dramatist.

The DW Facebook page just posted "Thought the Master returning was big? You won't believe what happens this week!"
Hmmm...wasn't expecting anything more than a mid-season romp with a Judoon ep, honestly. We'll see.

Fair enough, maybe another Timelord or past companion thenπ Not a bad guess either, but then it's the same issue again: outside of the Master and maybe, maybe Susan, who else would it be that could have name-value?
Granted, here is where I disagree with davy - I think it can be both. General 'don't miss this, big and epic' for the casuals, and then getting hardcores drooling and chattering and filling social media (free press) with 'could it be X or Y, who hasn't been seen since 19yaddayadda'. That, and playing up the Black-garbed gent in the new midseries trailer... Chibbs is definitely going hard.

Though if the 'surprise' is another Timelord (don't think they'll do another Master, but maybe the Rani? She'd be the sort who'd have multiple offences racked up for illegal experiments that'd get Judoon attention. Plus, meme points for Chibbs given his relation to the Bakers), I wonder if they do another Utopia watch scene.
(If it is the Rani getting a watch scene, imagine trying to make dialogue from Time and The Rani sound as epic as Delgado's in Utopia. Not sure if 'Mel? Melanie' carries the same heft).

Again though, they're not just saying 'don't miss this, big and epic' as you said above - they're explicitly saying it's a bigger deal than The Master reveal. I just don't think that The Rani s to anyone outside of our bubble. Yeah, it'd be a big-ish deal even to casuals as we've got another Timelord but does that go viral, cause a tenth of the buzz of the way Sacha's reveal did? I can't see it unless maybe they cast someone big and that would cause the trending more than the character. We'll know Sunday either way but I'd expect something more to be revealed about Gallifrey or The Master than a classic era character return.

Lots of speculation online that it may be the Rani, but what about the timing of today's BF news - given that its been kept quiet until now, despite coming out on April? Perhaps a regenerated Susan is the so called fugitive, or is connected? The trailer suggests the presence of an important female character, who looks unearthly.
Not that i'd walk into my local turf accountants and loudly ask to place a bet on it though...

It had been a while since someone last mentioned a regenerated Susan or the Rani, I'm glad we got that out of the way.

At least I did not mention the Black & White Guardian's - plenty of fevered speculation elsewhere. Plus its long overdue for the BBC or BF to bring back the Dominators and Quarks, as everyone has such fond memories of them. A credible match for the Judoon, come to think of it.

Hope I didn't sound rude, by the way. I've been reading "this character is the Rani in disguise" for years now - about Rory, Amy, River, Tasha Lem, Yaz, Graham - so I always laugh when I read about her. Same thing for Ashildr who was supposed to be Susan in series 9. The Black Guardian wouldn't seem that odd to me, though.
