The Husbands of River Song. Could this refer to the different incarnations of the Doctor who have met River (and remembered meeting her), or the mysterious Mr Song who will appear in The Diary of River Song?
Synopsis: It’s Christmas Day on a remote human colony and the Doctor is hiding from Christmas Carols and Comedy Antlers. But when a crashed spaceship calls upon the Doctor for help, he finds himself recruited into River Song’s squad and hurled into a fast and frantic chase across the galaxy. King Hydroflax (Greg Davies) is furious, and his giant Robot bodyguard is out-of-control and coming for them all! Will Nardole (Matt Lucas) survive? And when will River Song work out who the Doctor is?
All will be revealed on a starliner full of galactic super-villains and a destination the Doctor has been avoiding for a very long time.

and a destination the Doctor has been avoiding for a very long time. Not to rain on any potential parades, but to rain on said parades: enough with them presenting things like that. (His darkest secret, his greatest foe, his adjective-est noun). The multiverse is big enough for all manner of threatening cataclysmic threat without each being the cataclysmic est threat ever faced. /grumble mode off I actually liked the last Christmas special quite a bit more than others, so my hopes are tentatively up.

The title for this Christmas special is utter s..t & the episode sounds like a load of ole fluff, i can't say I'm excited about seeing this one.

I'm not sure about the title but will have to see it to see if it fits. I think if it was referring to previous doctors the BBC would be hyping the hell out of it. Personally I think the destination will be swinging towers as it ties into the whole river song arc

I'm looking forward to this ep. My only niggle is I hate thining abut fluffy Christmas romps when the onus should be on the dark, moody, epic finale this weekend. I doubt the story ties in with BF but I've been wrong before.
I also have no problem with the title. Just a callback to The Wedding Of River Song, surely?

But BF are doing something similar to that in January.
Synopsis sounds like the usual entertaining but less substantial tales we get at Xmas.
I wonder if it'll end with a new companion reveal?

But the single most important aspect of the Xmas show is missing from these posts...

I like the sonic shades. I completely agree with Moffat that those people outraged at the silliness of sonic-shades are completely overlooking how similarly silly a sonic screwdriver is. I also like his notion that kids might not get the sonic toy for Christmas but any kid can play as The Doctor with a pair of 99p sunglasses. That's pretty cool. I also like the idea of Moffat as iconoclast.
Also...Capaldi really looks badass with them. Look at the "hybrid is ME" scene and it's really put over by Capaldi putting on the glasses as he's talking.

Although I agree with the cool and 99p comments in glasses, at least a screwdriver is a tool

I didn't think the original sonic was all that silly since it was generally restricted to opening metal things and maybe blowing a circuit up. (Though I didn't complain during its periodic absences because it really can be too much of the crutch). But the reboot sonic simply got way too powerful. Tricorder, general scanner, works on everything other than wood except when it does work on wood, etc. - does everything but shoot people. The way the shades were introduced struck me as pure gimmickery. He's toned it down since then, and at least they have some reasonable common sense applications - transmitting the wearer's PoV to a monitor, recording and transmitting an image for hologram creation, etc.

You both say that...but why? That's kinda Moffat's point and one I really agree with. You accept it because it's been there longer? It's inherently silly either way! Are the glasses any sillier than 11 pointing the sonic at Amy and turning her into a pile of flesh-goo?

Sunglasses=Gimmick dose nothing Cool factor aside cause Capaldi's got Swagger regardless .

As I said, and you cut out, in my reply - the sonic screwdriver has done things - like the flesh thing - that a normal screwdriver can't so there's nothing relevant about it being a "tool". Nothing. How many countless times has it done something a normal screwdriver can't? It's no more ridiculous for sunglasses to be super-powered than it is a screwdriver. It's ridiculous EITHER way. That's why Moffat is able to change it up like this.

You can hold a screwdriver at arms length and put it inside things. Not as easy with glasses on your head. I like the idea of high tech shades, and more credible than reading the Jon-existent screen on the screwdriver, but they have different natural purposes.
I'm bothered about the form-factor. The whole sonic thing is fraught with problems regardless of how embodied!

I don't really mind the sunglasses but the screwdriver is iconic. It has gotten too powerful from its original conception though (Sherwin told me he actually made the first sonic screwdriver in his garage).

All of the above ... and I just don't like the sunglasses! Nothing against anybody, but personal preference ... give me a screwdriver any day Cheers Tony
