Excellent. You don't need to know any background for the Eighth Doctor, Fitz and Anji, and the little background there is is there in the novel already. The plot is fun and the characters are well written.

how is the book earthworld by jacqueline rayner? thanks Actually IMO its one of the more straightforward and enjoyable EDA'S that I think can be read as standalone unlike most of them where you need to have read a lot of what's happened before.

That was actually the first DW book that I read, and it was only this year. It's very good. I didn't know any of the background, and it didn't bother me. Except that you need to know that The Doctor's memory had been gone because of some war (not the Time War). Enjoy!
