Really enjoyed it - a few lines had me laughing, and Tracy Ann was deliciously evil.

And I think Big Finish may be having server overload. I can't get to my account to download it.

This was great. It was nice to see Yvonne again.
In the mid nineties, there was a run of comics at Marvel that featured the future of 2099 and their take on the heroes of that day. One of the titles under the imprint was Doom 2099, which, instead of featuring a new character taking up the mantle, featured the original Doctor Doom, just in the year 2099, and how he dealt with the changed world and such. Notably, one of the things that made the title work so well was that nothing about Doom's character had really changed, it was just that the world had become so messed up that, by comparison, Doom was now a good guy.
That's sort of how this story works. Yvonne hasn't changed. She's still Yvonne. Ruthless, capable, willing to do what it takes. She just happens to be aligned with what's "right" in this adventure.
Worked very well, I thought.
I could just about see this working in Series 1, as part of the 2005 Series of Doctor Who. "Three Weeks Ago" would place it between Unquiet Dead (our introduction to the Cardiff Rift, natch) and Aliens of London (where we meet Tosh, coincidentally). We get an early peek at Jack, without actually seeing him, as well as Ianto and other Torchwood One members at the other end of phone conversations. We even get Gwen on scene for a split second when the cops are called on a pub brawl. Certainly has that Series 1 Doctor Who sort of humor to it, while still retaining the tension and seriousness of early Torchwood.
They said in the extras that they'd be happy to do more releases with Yvonne in this time period. I hope it actually happens.

Interesting that so far Yvonne is the first person we hear definitively setting back the Committee, or at least not coming off the worse for wear from the events of what must be the worst night out in Cardiff, ever. Torchwood One knows about the Committee, and are unaware Jack is aware of them (though probably not their presence on and intentions for Earth at this point).

I think this was probably for me the strongest of the so far released Torchwood audio from Big Finish. I love the darker edgey almost sinister side of the Tracy Oberman character, and, I must admit although I was flagging a quarter of the way in, Lidster as written what for me is a slow burn, the last quarter of this was bang on the money, it painted more pictures in my head and started to exapnd the possibilities, leaving the obvious, what further interesting future story lines are avalible to the writers, and inturn to us. My one slight critisim of the entire Torchwood releases so far, and I stress slight is that, for me they are starting to hit the mark, but they still have not got quite the BANG of say the Who Main Range, or indeed, say the first couple of Avengers box sets or Counter Measures which seemed to take the orginality of the TV (where appliccable)concept and really smack you in the head with the translation to audio. In saying that, much enjoyed and definite listen again for myself.

It feels like a sampler collection to me as I am sure they'd rather have more two-handers with Jack + ANO for example. As a raw idea I do feel having Yvonne appear is brilliant and I did speak to Scott and James Goss about this at BF Day 7. They had a whale of a time recording it!

I think you hit the nail on the head, there Tony, it has all the feel of a 'taster' or lets get a ground base of both established Torchwood/Who fans and also maybe grab a few that have are either interested or curious, or possible have joined the Torchwood party from the subsquent non TV related material. I think it bodes well for Big Finish, if they can put out stronger and stronger material in the range. As I said, I think for me this has certianly built from the subsquent ones

It didn't really catch me until about half way through.

I wasn't too keen on this after the first listen, but after reading everyone's views I decided to give it another listen today. This time I could ignore everything going on in the foreground and concentrate on the background stuff - now I get it and have decided that I do like it after all. One thing though {Spoiler} Where's Torchwood Cardiff while all this is going on, are they still frozen in the time bubble? Cheers Tony

It didn't really catch me until about half way through. In The Conspiracy Jack clearly knows The Committee from before his Torchwood and Doctor days. It's how he recognises that George Wilson in The Conspiracy isn't your average conspiracy nut, that he's actually talking about a genuine invasion force.

I liked this one more than I expected I would. But, shouldn't the invisible elevator not be invisible yet? Jack implied that the TARDIS being there was what made it invisible, and this episode is set before Boom Town. I wonder what happened to Barry Jackson. It seems that Yvonne wanted him to wait around until the Doctor shows up, but obviously he isn't mayor anymore by Boom Town. Maybe the Slitheen killed him, but then why wouldn't she just steal his skin. Didn't they say that Barry was fat?

I.always assumed it was the location of the tardis landing in the unquiet dead.
Or with the rift being centered on the gelf portal

That was a really good, really enjoyable audio... Also it was an interesting experience for me in that in catching up with the New Series, I probably went through them too fast trying to find out the fate of Gallifrey, as well as watching a lot of episodes too close to bedtime so there seems to be a lot I have a really poor memory of (including dozing off right before the Brig reappeared!) - so I have to own up to not actually remembering Yvonne. I was going to re-watch the episodes where she debuts in preparation for this but that didn't work out, so I walked right into this with the character being as if completely new to me, and this was an absolutely brilliant "introduction".
I think it's remarkable that I've take an instant liking to her in the context of a Torchwood Cardiff series because I think she's a rather straightforward character in her own way, which is another disadvantage for her since Jack's team all seem so intriguingly complicated - so obviously a fantastic character and performance here, amid a delightful cast. Naturally this does nothing but get my hopes up further for a Paternoster series but more Yvonne too, please!!!
Mainly I'd been excited about this release because I think Joseph Lidster always tells an outstanding story - and the extras were fun too because somehow I think it just sounds like he's very fond of Torchwood and was stoked to be chatting with one of the stars - but everything about One Rule has turned out to be awesome. I'm tempted to give it another listen soon even though that's something I rarely do with so much I still haven't heard, but I'm really impressed with with the dynamics and contrasts in the story and how much dimension they add to it. My notion that Joe is one fine storyteller is perfectly justified here, not to mention that he also wrote one of my favorite Torchwood episodes, "A Day in the Death": Okay, two people are about to (spoiler) and one of them is already (spoiler) - now write a sensitive story about that somehow... and he actually did! More Torchwood stories by Joseph could only be a very good thing.
