As for the seeming lack of the Committee, Jack himself says they are chipping away at them, gradually exposing and stopping their schemes. Hopefully there'll be a big full cast story where all the people who are still alive come together to repel the Committee in one big push. Maybe it'll be a Destiny of the Doctor thing where everyone who has contributed to the fight ends up contributing somehow to that final push. God help the person who has to co-ordinate those recording sessions though!

Come to think of it, to go back a bit - never mind the fact Cree not being on the cover is odd...look at the cover. When does anything like this even slightly happen? There's no Jack duplicates, no factory where these avatars are made. It's like we're seeing a shot from a fictitious sequel to the story. It's not as if this was a story where the cover is used as a red herring. There's no big "twists" here. I don't get it. Curiouser and curiouser. Here's the announcement of this story fro a couple of months ago: www.bigfinish.com/news/v/torchwood-uncanny-valley-coming-soonThis section: "Written by David Llewellyn and starring John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Steven Cree as Neil Redmond and Emma Reeves as Miss Trent, Torchwood: Uncanny Valley continues on from the events of Torchwood: The Conspiracy, and promises to deliver a real treat to Torchwood fans – as Jack comes face-to-handsome-face with his android duplicates!"
Doesn't even come close to happening. What the hell?

So I've posted plenty about Barrowman not being a particularly good "lead" but being a better support character actor. I think this story is further evidence of that as there are 3 characters in this and Jack is by far the smaller role of them. And guess what? Barrowman was fantastic in it! He gets to be the character actor, the support role who can come in and alter events. He's much, much better at that. He comes in like a seualised Eddy Robinson in Double Indemnity and shakes things up. I'm glad John could make a good impression on you with one of this series. I was really pleased with both of his appearances in Big Finish audio so far myself. I think Captain Jack is a good lead character - after a dubious introduction, I looked forward to seeing in him in Doctor Who and generally as a very comforting if unpredictable presence who might show up in order to save The Doctor's hide. Same with Torchwood, it's good to have him around even if he seems to have no clue yet what to do at a given moment though he is the guy in charge (reminds me of someone else actually), only I'm glad that he isn't such a strong lead character that he overshadows the rest of the team, and I think a lot of John Barrowman for making all that work out so well. Also have to give him points for having done such a good job of keeping his accent in the closet that I had no idea until I heard the extras here, I've never once spotted it in his performance. Can't say the same of Nicola Bryant, good as she is.

We know there's a Torchwood Two in Glasgow, or was before TW became outlaws - and that it was run by "a strange, older man" who was the only person working there. I think since we're getting jumps around the timeline, it would be nice to see that Torchwood Hub and have Barrowman using his Glaswegian accent, to be that guy.

Just listened to this and enjoyed it very much. And I loved hearing the actors banter in the interview track at the end.

Like The Conspiracy, this one failed to grab me at first. But after powering through the threshold on the former release and realizing there was a good play hidden away in there, I figured I'd do the same here. But... I think think this is the weakest release thus far. It's not... bad, per se, it's just... I don't know. Didn't really work for me. It's merely "okay".
Jack's much better in this than in The Conspiracy, at least.
We're still advancing the Committee plot forward, so there's that.

I quite liked this one. Very nice chemistry between the two leads and a very nice story to boot as well. 9/10.

Re-listened to this one today. Quite an interesting plot and kind of creepy.
I'm wondering why it's called "Uncanny" Valley, though.

Basically it's things that look like a human but don't seem human. Think mannequins, porcelain dolls or ventriloquist dummies. The concept comes up in Robots of Death, where one of the characters is severely affected by the titular robots. As the Fourth Doctor describes it, being surrounded by walking, talking dead men. In this story NJ keeps the mole because the slight imperfection is more comforting than him being flawless.

I hadn't heard of the phrase until this story. I kept seeing it recently in reference to CGI chara cters and realized it was a commonly used phrase.

Ditto, aemiliapaula . It's been used a lot recently with regard to some of the characters in the latest Star Wars movie. I did some reading up when people used the phrase in discussions of Rogue One. Now I totally get why that was the title of this release. Pretty good explanation on Wikipedia.

So one of the segments in The Torchwood Archive is 2004, Suzy phoning up Yvonne and telling her about an adventure that she and Jack have just had. They've just finished investigating (and blowing up) a weird sex doll factory in Aber Falls, Wales, that was making copies of people. The factory belonged to Ovid, and was run by one Miss Trent. That cover there would be great for a dramatization of that adventure.
