I have no interest in this product. How many people are still on the fence regarding this release? I am passionate about The Prisoner and feel like it one of the absolute best things every created for TV. For years I wanted Big Finish to adapt it and yet here I sit, on the fence about the thing. The deluxe packaging and the price tag with it is really a sticking point. The re-imaging of the episodes is another. That I didn't pre-order it on day one is still a huge surprise to me. Is the limited edition something new or did I just not realize it until now. And nice promo piece. Things have certainly gotten slicker on that end in the past year.

I've preordered it today, duped entirely by it being limited to 3000 copies and not wanting to risk losing out. If this thread is reflective of broader levels of disinterest and/or dislike of the price tag perhaps there was no such risk and I can look forward to receiving number 0001/3000! probably 0002. Pretty sure Nick Briggs will still take #1 If someone in this forum gets 0006, let us know. If this box set had come out ten years ago, I'd have snatched it up straightaway. But my love of The Prisoner has waned, and I haven't felt the urge to rewatch the series either. I'm spending my BF allocation on Doctor Who and Blake's 7 primarily, with interest in Torchwood and The Omega Factor. I'd really like to get Survivors, but I can't afford everything, and I'm not familiar enough yet with Dark Shadows to make purchases there. The Prisoner must sit much further down the list for me.

...so it's going up even more after release? *Every* other deluxe LE "booklet" box set has always gone up in price. I actually consider the pre-order price to be the real regular price, and the (not buy) regular price to be elevated so that Big Finish's representative vendors have a fair chance to sell their stock of physical BF products.

I have no interest in this product. How many people are still on the fence regarding this release? Why post about something you have no interest in? I'd like to think that as audio drama fans we will very much enjoy this new version, so I'm reserving judgement until I hear it.....if I can afford it!

It's been well over hyped and is getting blatant special treatment. A new range with a property Big Finish hasn't before done anything with, yet the first release is a highly extravagant and very expensive physical product with no cheaper CD alternatives? Logic would suggest that the initial release would be more modest, a conventional box set to test the waters and give a better idea of the demand. Even on this thread you can see how the price is off-putting. And that's before you get to Nick Brigg's regular plugging on podcasts (at least before they began being convention only). And have you heard the music at the beginning and end of the Chicago TARDIS podcasts? Granted, The Prisoner wasn't mentioned in those, so it's not all-pervading.

I don't get your point. You are not interested in the Prisoner release, but as far as I can tell your comments will do nothing more than fuel a wave of negativity about a release that hasn't even come out yet.
Yes, it is too expensive, and yes BF are plugging it via conventions and snazzy videos. So what? They are a company that sells stuff so good on em.
The market and the punters will ultimately decide if it cuts the mustard or not. If it is good it will sell, if it is crap it won't.

Tactically, there is a more efficient way to introduce this new range. Some people who would have purchased the same content at a cheaper price might not have the funds to purchase the present CD option. Some customers, through their own personal preferences, might miss out on experiencing this product because they find the cost prohibitive. I'm simply saying that less extravagant packaging would have made the product more accessible. I'm saying nothing about the content or the quality, that's for the people who desire the release to decide. My opinion is based around the idea of launching a new range at an unusually high cost. Even a regular box set (similar to Dorian Gray for example) alongside the limited edition book would give people more choice if they prefer owning a physical product.

I would assume the price is going up after release. It doesn't always, but that's usually with the lower-priced items, as far as I've seen. Most items go up at least a little after release. That is worrying me. This is expensive already. I'm interested in it, just not at this price. And if it goes up once it comes out...I can't afford it.

I might have picked it up at a lower price but it's way too expensive to just try it off at a whim.
I liked the original Prisoner (didn't love it but enjoyed watching it) but a huge part of my enjoyment was McGoohan's performance. Without that I am just not sure.
Sure if people end up saying it's great I may give it a chance in the future. But even then I would probably wait for a sale.
I do think Big Finish made a mistake making this so expensive, especially with no A-list names behind it. I realize Prisoner is a cult favorite but when I was looking at comments most people didn't even realize it was an audio adaption. A new range is always experimental and I think you should go lower in price to test the waters. Just my opinion.

Cheers Tony Not really. I guess this all comes down to this is too expensive. Unlike the last 6th adventure, there isn't really a built in audience for the cast or series for this kind of deluxe only set, at least that I've seen. Course, they could have sold 2000 of them already.

Considering the price!Would that be fair on people who have purchased it?(I am not one of those BTW) Possibly not, but it seems to be something they have started doing with other ranges (for newsletter subscribers). I guess if take up isn't very good, they will do whatever they can to get more sales Not really. I guess this all comes down to this is too expensive. Course, they could have sold 2000 of them already. I highly doubt they will release sales figures to us . I wonder how much of the issues are actually price related and how much is down to the fact that some of the episodes are remakes rather than continuations (with a different agent/number or a recast number 6). I get what you mean about the 6th Last Adventure and that is probably true about the other expensive boxsets (Philip Hinchcliffe, LATE). For all I know there might not be much apathy regarding this release at all lol, but for me it's just too expensive (with everything they are producing). Cheers Tony

Cheers Tony It doesn't bother me that they're remakes, having no seen the episodes. And the price points on the 6th Last Adventure and the Hinchliffe Set are turn offs, but they at least have the built in audience of 15 years of Big Finish Doctor Who, and the lovely Tom and Colin Baker. As well as draws of finally an End for Sixie and more creepy from Hinchcliffe.
This prisoner set has the name "THE PRISONER" and that's it. If you've never watched the Prisoner, $60 US isn't going to appeal to you, and if you have you might be turned off by remakes at that price point. And since there is no previous Prisoner output by BF, we have no idea of the quality we're getting out of this.
Put in my own point of view. Earlier this year, I bought the Omega Factor. Never seen the show, and only heard it's a bit X-File-y. I decided to get it when it was $38 US. I'm willing to try something new that looks neat for 40 bucks, 60 is too much. (before shipping no less).
But I suppose I might get this one if it goes on Sale, or on Download down the line.
Was that too long and pointless?

And have you heard the music at the beginning and end of the Chicago TARDIS podcasts? I quite like The Prisoner's musical theme tune its '60s snappy! Starting and finishing the Big Finish podcasts with some ongoing product themed music seems like a good idea to me.
