Finished today...I enjoyed it but having never read the book (which I know I should) I felt it was a bit too rushed to really have any depth. Great performances though, especially Derek Jacobi.
As it were my favorite stories were the first one with the woman trying to preserve the Martian civilization and the ones about the robot family.
I did like the last line a lot...which I am sure is iconic.

Listened to this yesterday. It was very good, but far too short for the amount of content it contained. This is one of those times that a bit of narration would have helped as there was no indication of how much time passed between parts.
Production and acting was excellent and overall worth the money, but definitely lacking something... Time probably.
It might be time to dig the book out again.
Cheers
Tony

Did not care for it. Love Bradbury and Atwell, Jacobi too, but this....
It was rushed, it was disjointed, it felt like you blinked at it was over. It was only $8 for the download version, but I still feel like I got a bit ripped off. Damned glad I didn't go for the CD release.

Yeah, I am sure if Big Finish had made this is would have been a lot better. Like others I found The Martian Chronicles to be very rushed, and it was an unfufilling listen. It could - and should - have been so much better. A waste of a great cast, this story needed to be told properly.
[Also, technically this discussion shouldn't be in the Worlds of Big Finish section, as BF didn't produce it.]

That's true, isn't it B7 Media Productions for Radio 4 or something? I couldn't decide where to put it so am happy whichever section it ends up in (BBC, Others) . Cheers Tony

Could have been better structured, felt a bit disjointed. Should have had some kind of indication to mark where each story began and ended. Not enough depth to characters (each character was pretty much an archetype that didn't get much development) or each story to make them memorable, especially with the one about the man who went mad from the isolation and built robots to replace his dead family (there should have been some emotion in there but there wasn't). Performances were great but the material lacked something. The first story reminded me of Avatar. Even though I haven't read the original stories they have to be better than this.

I loved the tv series, when it was screened. Bought the DVD some time ago, but was really disappointed with the third part.

Interesting. I hadn't heard of that version. Am sure you will love it. Not expensive, either. Interesting that the few reviews on the iTunes page are not good, though.

Yes I read them too before buying ,but I think it is true to the book and I have played it many many times. It doesn’t change characters or omit anything from the book and in my opinion it’s a great listen. You may disagree but hey life is like that lol. It's apparently also available on Audible.

It's apparently also available on Audible. I tried to get Cd but couldn’t find I like my cds lol it is value for money (in my humble opinion) I saw it on Amazon for not a lot of money. I use GetTextBooks to search for the best price on out of print items. I suggest you try it.

View AttachmentIt Is MP3 which means all that ripping it etc lol.....but you know I probably will do it as it would be a lot of CDs if they did release it I've seen ones that say audio CD, not mP3 CD. Hopefully accurate description. But you have to use your judgement. I've seen some from various sources (not just Amazon) by searching around.
