Star Wars! Episode VII! The film will most definitely be this Thursday! So, how do you feel about the new cinematic addition to the Star Wars saga?

I'm bored of it already, it's everywhere... even my packets of Cheestrings have Darth Vader on them!

I have a disturbing lack of faith in it. I was quite excited to learn that Abrams was in charge (my reaction to his first Star Trek film was "I rather like this, but my, doesn't it seem like Star Wars?") but the trailers and other promotional material have done nothing to convince me that this won't merely be harping on past glories.
The "all those stories" line is a prime example of this. It's gratuitous self-mythologizing that seems to be saying "oh, look at us, weren't we great?" There's a reason that Doctor Who tends to portray the mythologization of the Doctor as a bad thing.

There's a reason that Doctor Who tends to portray the mythologization of the Doctor as a bad thing. I agree with this unfortunately, the trailers posters interviews etc have all given me the feeling that it's merely 'A New Hope, Version 2' caught up in its own hype a little, having waited 32 years to see the story continue I'll be very dissapointed if it's just rehashing past glories or pandering to hardcore fans that have shouted much louder than the general public, the prequels may have been pretty terrible films overall, but at least Lucas took a gamble making the films he personally wanted to, and expanded the universe with three tonally very different films and new characters and themes, hell when I was a kid I loved the prequels every bit as much as the original films and didn't even realise the hatred until I went online when I was older, as Lucas said he always made Star Wars with the kids in mind, I'm worried the new film may be aimed more at the cynical adult fans who were burned by the prequels rather than New Audiences i.m.o. I was never a huge fan of the franchise anyway, so I'm not quite as emotionally involved as some may be, but in a weird way I like the OT so much, I don't want the new film to be the OT part 4... Although the Original Trilogy remains a cultural landmark I'm worried Disney and Abrams are over estimating the relevance/importance of the original trilogy to a modern casual audience (I don't think Star Wars holds as much cultural impact outside North America) and won't have the guts or interest to do anything unpredictable with the storyline, I'd like to be delighted and surprised by The Force Awakens, that said, I'm very intrigued by Mark Hamill's absence from the trailers, Luke was always my favourite character from the OT, really curious to see what he's been up to... Abrams is a great Director when it comes to camera work, set pieces, dialogue and getting believable performances out of the cast...I find him less reliable when it comes to creating memorable, iron cast storylines, still he's a experienced filmmaker and a fan of the series, I'm sure he'll bring rather more energy to the part than Lucas did at least. I'm going in cautious optimistic, I've got a feeling about what kind of film to expect-a solid, entertaining (if not groundbreaking) blockbuster overly reliant on nostalgia, whether that's a good thing or not, I'll feel more sure about after the films ends I suppose.

Dear George Lucas. That is what proper Star Wars looks like. Does more for Star Wars than all 3 prequels combined

saw it last night i thought it was a really fun with 2 very good and likable leads a really good villain. i felt, while watching, abrams was really making this movie for the kids tday not for frumpy old fans so the kids today could have star wars i think he succeeded.

Just home from seeing it, thought it was great, definitely sad in in parts, but can't wait for the next installment A big improvement on the prequels, not sure as yet where it fits against original trilogy.

Awesome movie which despite a few niggles is Star Wars back to it's classic best.
I pretty much worked out who Kylo Ren was & his connection to the force & think i know were episode 8 & 9 will go.
Captain Phasma was very underused & just how did Lukes sabre return when it was lost after Vader cut Lukes hand off in Empire? Did it fall from the sky & someone on Cloud City find it & put it on Tattooine Ebay?
The final shot gave me goosebumps & Kylo Ren is possibly the most hated man in the world at the minute.

Really enjoyed it. The ending was filmed off the Dingle Peninsula where I have been many times and seen almost the same view

i do have a problem with the movie i cant shake. and jj abrams did this with star trek as well. i think of it as belittling the VASTNESS of space. in all 3 movies it takes about 2 seconds to get anywhere. got to the other end of the galaxy? no problem you'll be back in time for supper. his big death star planet canon was cool looking but the idea it could just blow up planets in other star systems no problem kind of irks me. he makes his universes seem so close and packed together. makes it seem like everyone is on top of each other.
rant over
fun movie kylo ren was terrific really like ren and finn

In short "Screenwriter and director Max Landis took fire yesterday after tweeting his belief that Rey from the new Star Wars movie is a “Mary Sue” — an author insertion character who is great at everything while the established characters stand back in awe." Rey was certainly the only new character with consistent characterization.

Rey was certainly the only new character with consistent characterization. I disagree, I found both Finn and Poe consistent in their characterization.
And I also disagree about calling Rey a Mary Sue. Mostly because most people through that around a lot when they're trying to sound smart or hip. And this feels like that is what Mr. Landis is doing right now.
