In theory, this is a release that I'd be interested in getting but yeah, for me £35 (+, I imagine, postage) is a smidgen too much for me too...

I watched the DVD and read the unabridged book over Christmas. Interesting to compare the two... the book is a lot weirder, and it's interesting to note that wheras on tv Cole Hawlings has had the box for centuries, in the book it's a fairly recent aquisition. (And why was the thuggish George Wilkins scared to use it?)
Felt the last episode of the tv version was a letdown, they'd evidently run out of budget at that stage.

Interesting I think that's the first time a Score commissioned for BF is released again on another Label?

Alright, please tell me I wasn’t the only one who was momentarily taken aback when it sounded like Abner Brown was being assisted by a Cyber-Planner?

So is this book just a huge classic in the U.K. or something? I've never heard of it, but was kinda excited for this boxset just because of, ya' know, Derek Jacobi and Lisa Bowerman and Mark Gatiss and Louise Jameson and David Warner all in one set.
But good lord is it expensive. I've just left it languishing in my wishlist since adding it.
Apparently it was originally priced at £29.99, which isn't too bad for a starting price, but now it's at £39.99 which means that when I see it in my wishlist, the price I see is $55 USD or. Can't really describe how I look at a number like that without using a word like "aghast."
It's on sale right now, and even then -- at around $35 USD -- it's still more than I could justify spending.

I wouldn't have said the book was a huge classic (certainly I'd never heard of it as a child) but it was lingering memories of the 1984 TV production and the nostalgia around that which drew me to Big Finish's version - and of course its rather stellar cast list. Now with that said, I do agree that the current price (and sales price) for a Download is on the high side. Ordinarily I'd say hang on for a better sale offer, but these aren't exactly ordinary times. And as much as I hate to point you in the direction of a corporate behemoth like Amazon, if you are interested you can get either the 1984 Dvd or the BBC audio version for about half the price (according to the US website).

The book is a solid read. But I will agree that I’d imagine the success of this release was on the fact that a lot of people have fond memories of the Patrick Troughton adaptation. Admittedly it does help that I thought this was a brilliant adaptation as well.
