I think I just ended up sticking it between Series 3 and Angels Take Manhattan.

I’d slot Lie of Ruins between The Angels Take Manhattan and The Husbands of River Song myself. The way River handles the Eighth Doctor in the end reminded of the way she speaks with the Eleventh at the end of Manhattan. I like to think that was in River’s mind as being recent for her. Ultimately, stick it between The Wedding of River Song and The Husbands of River Song and you’re onto a winner.
What about The Power of River Song from UNIT Incursions? I must confess I didn’t find the story all that memorable, including hints from River, if any.

It has to be after her time at Stormcage or at least towards the end of it as she’s a professor. The reason I didn’t put it after Angels is because that’s supposed to be fairly recent in Husbands so I try to stick as few things as possible between them.
The Power of River Song is pretty arbitrary, but she’s using her trowel so it’s probably after Series 3, so again I just stuck it between that and Angels. Though if you are putting stories between Angels and Husbands, Series 4 should come last as she loses her Vortex manipulator so that’s a nice lead-in to her not having it in Husbands.

Listening to Series 2, and in The Unknown, River claims to have made her sonic device, which she calls a sonic screwdriver. The Doctor claims however that it isn’t a screwdriver and he should know because he patented the sonic screwdriver.
Now unless there’s something else that puts Series 2 after Husbands, I’d say that Series 2 should actually go pre-Husbands, especially as it’s supposed to be shortly after River is pardoned.
This also opens the door for other stories featuring River using a sonic device to go before Husbands, potentially even Series 1 as well. The problem with Series 1 is that it was most likely written with no knowledge of Husbands of River Song, so all the potential links in it are very probably coincidental.

I personally don’t like putting any meetings with the Doctor between Husbands and Library, so my explanation for series 1 is that she doesn’t know all the doctors faces yet and it’s the events of series 1 that make her research it. I also ignore the line in Doom Coalition 2 about “the magician” (or try to explain it as River mentioning the 3rd doctor for some reason) because her speech at the end of Doom Coalition 4 leads perfectly into her apparence in Husbands. {Spoiler} Placing it after Husbands sort of ruins the development in that story because it means that even after Darilium River didn’t believe that the Doctor truly loved her

I've also moved Concealed Weapon closer to Silence in the Library after a recent re-listen, as River is petrified of meeting the Doctor and him not knowing who she is, so it makes sense to move it closer to her death. Series 6 was relatively straightforward. I'll pop my justifications in spoiler tags: The monster in An Unearthly Woman is a bounty hunter sent by The Ravenous, so it's neat to put it after Companion Piece.
In The Web of Time, River is familiar with The Red Lady, so it makes sense to place it after Companion Piece, which follows on from Songs of Love.
There's not a lot to go on in Peepshow. River has a doctorate, but that's the only reference, so I've put it after Series 3, as one of the earliest River placements by Big Finish.
River is in Victorian London to recharge her vortex manipulator in The Talents of Greel and also uses her sonic trowel at a couple of points. I've put it just before Series 4.

The beginning of Companion Piece seems to pick up pretty seamlessly from where River ended up at the end of Songs of Love so I don’t think there’s room for a story between the two. Admittedly I haven’t heard The Web of Time so it might explain it somehow.

I must relisten to the second set, not heard it since release and it’s not left a massive impression on me, Five Twenty-Nine aside. I think in the first episode she makes a big deal of destroying one of her Stormcage IDs, but then it’s made more explicit in the last episode where she goes off on a speech about how she’s just been released from Stormcage and she went and got her professoriate straight away and is doing this and that and the other.

What are everyone’s thoughts on timeline placement for Series 7 of The Diary of River Song? I only picked up on the sonic screwdriver in Abbey of Heretics and of course Carnival of Angels is set not long before Angels Take Manhattan.

I put them all in order right before Angels Take Manhattan. I believe she’s a Professor in all of them, so after she gets out of Stormcage, and we know she has a sonic device that she can’t device the name of prior to Husbands of River Song, so with there barely being anything to go on I just placed it in the most obvious spot.

{R&J Timeline Order} Melody Pond shares a pizza with Jack Harkness in New York 1969. - This is a retroactive first meeting between River and Jack)
River is trying to assassinate the Ninth Doctor and meets Jack. She believes that the Doctor is evil. The body she is inhabiting isn’t her own. - This is a retroactive early meeting between River and Jack. Honestly this entry doesn’t really make a lot of sense, so I’m not sure whether this links into an upcoming release or what. It appears to be set during River's time working as an Assassin for the Silence, but really she was only an active assassin during Lets Kill Hitler so idk.
River attends her first lecture at the Luna University and Jack poses as her lecturer Hark Jackness. River meets the vortex wraiths for the first time - This is a retroactive early meeting between River and Jack. Jack is returning the favour for River meddling with his timeline, which she hasn’t done yet.
On her way to Stormcage, River meets Jack again. This time they both know each other and formally introduce themselves. - Retroactive early meeting between Jack and River.
River meets Jack for the first time from her perspective but Jack already knows her. They meet Snorvlast. - This is River's original first meeting with Jack but he later went back and changed her timeline.
River poses as Elizabeth I and meets Javic Piotr Thane. She already knows Jack.
River takes over the Time Agency following her encounter with Javic in the Elizabethan era. She claims that she’s altering his timeline slightly to ensure he stays out of her way in future. River knows the name Jack Harkness, setting this after their meeting on the shuttle. - This happens before Jack goes back and changes River's timeline, which explains why she hates him here but suddenly likes him a lot in all other scenes. So this and the previous entry are overwritten timelines.
River encounters the Vortex Wraiths (for the second time) in WW2 and meets Jack. She says she’s doing a favour for an old friend. She has a sonic blaster. River already knows that her timeline with Jack is complicated. - River is now Friendly with Jack and it seems like her involvement with the vortex wraiths and his younger self here is a direct response to their previous encounter at the university. So we’re now back into the changed timeline.
River encounters Jack and Jackie at the Powell estate. River is beginning to develop romantic feelings for Jack. - Once again a bizarre segment. River is living at the Powell Estate. I don’t know if this is for an upcoming story or what. It’s difficult to place this segment beside the others. River appears to want to avoid Jack, who wants to speak to her and he does so in the exit segment so I’d perhaps just leave it here.
Jack and River have their first synchronised meeting. River is waiting for the Doctor on a beach to go on a date. They have encountered vortex wraiths, robots and paradoxes on their previous adventures together. River tells Jack about her husband for the first time. River says that she’s not got many days left with her husband as one of them is going to die soon. Jack suggests that he and River run away to the ends of time. Jack claims that River has never shot him. - Okay things get a bit easier from here because a lot of it goes in order or at least gives you hints.
Jack and River race Dinosaurs in the Jurassic era. Jack knows about River's husband. River reveals that she wont see her husband for a while because he has gone off to fight a war. Jack and River have shot each other many times. - So it’s obviously after the previous segment, because Jack knows that River has a significant other. I’m guessing the war is the battle of Demons Run and River is beginning to feel like she’s coming to the end of her time with the Doctor, idk.
Jack orders four robot duplicate brides of River that turn out to be homicidal. The real River turns up and destroys them.
River visits Jack in Cardiff, unbeknownst to her it is a younger Jack from his travels with the Ninth Doctor during the events of Boom Town. River appears to see the Ninth/Tenth Doctors' TARDIS interior for the first time. She attempts to apologise to Jack, but as it’s an earlier Jack than she was expecting, he believes that she was apologising for trying to kill the Doctor. River refers to their conversation on the beach. River refers to their adventures including beaches and dinosaurs. - I’m guessing this is after the robot duplicate situation as both Jack and River go to visit the other one and apologise but meet an earlier version of each other, and the robot situation seems to be the only time they actually any kind of falling out.
River visits Jack while he’s incarcerated on the Valiant. River wants to talk to him and Jack asks if she’s still mad about the robot duplicates, vortex wraiths and shuttle Assassins. River mentions visiting Jack in Cardiff and meeting the wrong version of him. - So this is straight forward, Jack things River is mad at him about the robot incident and River has recently been to Cardiff to try and talk things through with him only to meet the wrong Jack.
River visits Jack in Gallipoli and reveals that she can’t die until she visits a particular restaurant. They leave Gallipoli and get married, only to be confronted by Snorvlast whom they have both met by this point.
Jack and River have their honeymoon at the end of time. Jack gives a River a Wedding cake, having remembered their earlier conversation.
River rescues Child Javic from an attack on a orphanage, to return the favour from when he visited her as a child.
During her 24 years on Darillium while the Doctor has popped out to stop an alien invasion, River encounters Jack at the restaurant. She reveals to him that her husband is the Doctor. River and Jack say goodbye to each other.
River discovers that the Face of Boe has died and attends his funeral.

Hey guys,
I’m new to this forum and have been working on River Songs Timeline myself for like ten years haha! So have lots of input in this (I swear I’ve revisited it a crazy number of times) Just working on a complete one with everything myself at the moment. Most of my main timeline is similar to what is discussed on here with a few key changes though, thought I’d like to ask some opinions and just splatter gun my ten years worth of problems:
1. Regarding vortex manipulators: Either she has only one in which case all vortex is post Pandorica or she has multiple
Problem with the former is that Pandorica river is already portrayed with a battered diary, she seems older and references good man goes to war before she leaves. Yet good man goes to war and in fact most river stories (second first/last night river, day of the moon) contain a vortex manipulator so we would have very few stories in between her first night and the Pandorica despite her diary being so warn and her seeming so much older and being understanding of a younger doctor not knowing her well.
Problem with the latter is why does she need to get a Pandorica vortex manipulator if she already had one (granted she loses it sometimes later when she is professor), and secondly we have yet to see a younger version get one (though in student bodies it does mention she steals one from the university so this could be a get out here?)
Do you guys stick to the vortex post Pandorica or not? As sticking to this can detract from her reverse order storyline (though this is t perfect I know)
2. In the legend books she is a professor whilst still in Stormcage, yet in the audios TDORS2 she says she becomes a professor after (I have allowed this as her meaning she became an actual teaching professor, which also explains a lot of there later stories involving her archaeology or students)
3. She has a sonic trowel often and sometimes a screwdriver, though also in TDORS2 it is debated what it is she made herself, and in animal instinct it’s a pen torch. Thoughts on this? I feel this gives lee way dependent on interpretation.
4. Given up till day of the moon at least River believe she travels in reverse, so we need that as much as possible where we can (so Rain Gods which has a much older doctor makes sense to have a much younger river and she hasn’t a vortex manipulator, so this should go after first night to deepen the Doctor getting more forgetful part of their story) there is no reason that the restaurant they were going to is darillium as this is just in their early Stormcage date phase where they went to all sorts of places.
(I have all sorts of input but just thought I put a few and see your opinions, can also share my timeline once I’ve dealt with R+J lol (wtf is up with River attacking nine?))
