I don't want to see a Jamie cameo at all. I want RTD2 to pull a Big Finish Six and make Jamie a companion again, at least for a few episodes, if not a full season. Did you know? Frazer is still kicking his own butt for not jumping right back into the TARDIS after Two Doctors. JNT would have been up for it. But back then, Frazer thought the other show he was coming back too was the better choice.
In hindsight, can you imagine the fun of having Jamie along in Sixie's TARDIS? We were really missing out on that.

I really enjoyed this special, flawed as it was.
There are things I enjoyed tremendously, and things I don't think worked quite as well (Both companion departures spring to mind)
That being said, on a moment-to-moment basis, I really think Chibnall knocked it out of the park. The cameos all worked very well, and it was an absolute delight seeing Teagan and Janet back on screen.
Sacha Dhawan was an absolute delight, and this special has really increased my excitement for his two (and hopefully more!) boxsets. I do think that one of my favourite moments for his character was when Tegan showed Ace the miniaturized cyberman. There was nothing stopping him from sending it to Ace, but the double whammy of it being a nod to her Aunt Vanessa and Adric was perfect. Just the sheer casual cruelty that he is capable of really works well for the character.
There are definitely a bunch of ideas Big Finish could pinch for future works in this story, framing devices for short trips and themes for upcoming UNIT boxsets in particular.
A touch overstuffed, and I think that The Fam was short changed, be it in screen time, character work and ongoing plot threads. But I know that in the fullness of time Big Finish will take care of that in their trademark way.
An enjoyable, if not perfect special.
EDIT: Just some thoughts after looking up some stats. If Flux can be counted as a single story, Dodo travelled longer in the Tardis than Dan did. Dodo travelled longer than Dan. Dodo. Wow.

Well at the moment we have the Season 6b Boxset coming out next year from big finish with the second doctor and Jamie though if recent news is to be heard it won’t be an ongoing thing

It was within 6 minutes of the episode airing, the BF page popped up on my FB newsfeed with The Spoiler.. Immediately started messengering my mates "DONT go to the BF website.. or FB.. or Twitter.. " I’d deliberately deleted all my social media to avoid accidental spoilers - as it would be abt 12 hours between UK broadcast and when I would get to watch, and what do I wake up to - an EMAIL from BF w a 10th Doctor sale! now I knew Tennant was coming back, and it’s on,y a minor point really, but didn’t know how the regen would work…until BF spoiled it. Big Finish We Love Spoilers.

This made me realise that we were only missing Anneke & Freema from the scene. All of the other Earth based companions have either died / are unavailable in universe, or have died in real life, which was a real surprise when I thought about it. Apparently she was due to appear but couldn't make the eventual filming day. Regards mark687

3.71 million overnight viewers watched this, with 4.04 tuning in for the regeneration. I'll be watching tomorrow.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

With all the nods to the past and the Easter eggs did anyone else notice that we had a proper Five-ish Doctors reunion as well?

While I think this episode doesn't ultimately work as a proper ending to the era, what I can say is, all things considered, Chibnall did create a memorable era. For good or ill, he didn't just do a bunch of super vanilla, generic stories with a safe casting as the Doctor. I was certainly among those voices thinking it would just be boilerplate and typical, and while we can obviously debate the quality of the execution, Chib did swing for the fences in a number of key areas and that is worth celebrating:
-Finally breaking the deadlock on Doctor castings with both a female and a non-white actor. -Long overdue diversification of the behind the scenes talent, as well as cast. Just with these two points, it truly feels like now all bets are off. Any kid watching the show from now on can truly grow up to work on the show one day, as the Doctor or someone else. Even if you hate the era, that's something special. (Heck, we got a lot of Northern England rep here that wasn't a bunch of mouthy, scruffy caricatures). -Talking to kids about some really thorny subjects in an upfront manner, like systemic racism, adoption, mental health and the dark aftereffects of British colonialism. That Chibnall, of all people, beat Big Finish to a civil rights story, and one that got away with using a version of the N word on TV, is still wild to me. -Made the series feel really global, with an array of locations unmatched in the show's near 60 year history. Who no longer feels as landlocked to the UK as it did, and that can only blow up the canvas of potential stories, in any time period or genre, that can be told. -Same of the technical elements, making Who, despite likely a shrinking budget because BBC, one of the prettiest and most distinctive looking shows on UK TV. The CG, the practical effects, the colour, a lot to commend for homegrown talent. UK TV is a landscape too often dominated by a lot of washed out, grey, underlit looking programmes still cribbing a Fincher/Nolan aesthetic, and it dared to stand apart. -While the TC story arc has a lot to contest and debate, there's still some value in challenging, every now and then, the iron-clad orthodoxy of a 'canon' (especially in this current era of fandoms who treat media and corporations like Gods) and opening up the universe for more stories and possibilities. In a way, Chibb went even further than Cartmel in returning the Doctor to a state of mystery: we don't know where they really come from, who they were or what sort of being they truly are.

Random thoughts. Please let the mutilated Mona Lisa have 'This is a fake' written in felt tip under the paintwork... What was it with the pictures anyway? Why 1916 in particular? There's so much that could have been cut from this. Please let that be the end of that version of the Master. I really never took to him, sorry. Nice mention of Croydon, Yasmin getting the Tardis to do what the 4th Doctor couldn't, even if it wasn't really where they needed to be. Let's have the empty chair in the support group for Sarah Jane, okay? Clothes changing on regeneration? Or is there something else going on? Or just harking back to the wonderful Day of the Doctor -
DOCTOR: I never forget a face. CURATOR: I know you don't. And in years to come, you might find yourself revisiting a few. But just the old favourites, eh? (The Doctor winks.)

Just saw: the official Youtube clip of the regeneration is almost at 1 million views. Most videos on the DW Youtube channel don't crack that in a year, and this one did in two days. Just think about the significance here.

Crazy thought, that I'm going to post in here because I don't want to see the rumours and spoilers over in the 60th thread... (spoilers for THIS episode) {Spoiler}What is Tennant isn't the NEXT incarnation along at all?
We saw Jodie force-regenerated into the Master...then the process was slammed into reverse, by an regular ordinary human (ie: prone to more mistakes than if a Time Lord did it).
What if Yaz didn't quite adjust one of the knobs right and now the process is stuck in reverse and getting worse? Master/Doctor unregenerated one incarnation to Jodie, then Jodie unregenerated 3 or 4 incarnations to Tennant.
And what if that has consequences further along -- that the jump in incarnations in reverse grows even more, so Ncuti is actually a pre-Hartnell Doctor, rather than the 14th or 15th? Given that we're moving along to a different showrunner I'm expecting that particular element of Chib's era to be ignored for the next few years at least so I doubt that's what's happening. But I was having a wouldn't it be interesting if... moments.

Just think about the significance here. To be fair, the regeneration videos do, including a compilation that shows them all. It would be similar if they uploaded the clip of Jodie and the other incarnations, or the companion meeting, as it was with The Curator or all of the Doctors saving Gallifrey. They’re significant moments for not only the fanbase, but the wider audience.

They COULD put in ALL OF THEM in their original form somehow, if we get something like a reverse regeneration. Well, all apart from Eccleston, who will not even take part if hell freezes over and thaws again. But apart from that, the idea would indeed be absolutely AWESOME.

I still cannot believe that
a) Colin was back, in the BBC centennial episode no less!!!
or that b) he got to say a sentence about "a regeneration has to be done properly".
This is still too much to process.
Just imagine how Colin must have felt. No wonder he was so giddy and excited and so full of energy at the convention!!!
(sadly, I assume, Michael Grade would not be watching this if his life depended on it, so he might never know)
This is amazing. All these trolls can say about Chibnalls writing what they want (and I would agree that is was a bit wonky) but OMG I love him just for doing this.
Needless to say, on the re-watch last night, with my friend, there were many excited high pitched school-girl cries. I think this will become one of my most watched episodes in future.

Finally seen this. I wanted to wait for a day off so the 'experience' wouldn't be infected by thoughts of work.
How could anybpdy not have a great time with this? I found that I absolutely loved all of it, and that everything I wanted to say has been covered in the previous enthustastic posts. It's so good to see an episode (almost) universally praised.
It occured to me that, if Chris Chibnall's era was transmitted back to front (with Power first and Woman Who Fell to Earth last), it could be seen as running out of steam as it went on (and I speak as someone who thorougly enjoyed most of his stuff). As it is, his stories have picked up momentum, getting braver, more epic and more confident as they've gone along. This story takes the tumbling, sprawling chaos I loved so much about Flux and gone even further with it.
After a frightening opening with Cybermen, we 'begin' the story with Dan's departure. One of many things I didn't see coming this early - and neither did the Doc by the looks of it. Jodie looked properely deflated as her team began to break up. Then the fabulous Janet Fielding and Sophie Aldred are back and being brilliant all over again. Why does their return bring tears to my eyes? Their inclusion - and that of Graham's ex-Doctor Companion's Therapy Group - is wonderful, the latter being one of Chris C's best ideas and something that really should have been done before now.
And then, and then ..
The second, lone TARDIS. As eerie and foreboding as any TARDIS could be. Sasha as The mad human-intolerant Master as Rasputin, truly as good as the character's ever been (his moves to Boney M - and the Dalek's reaction - might be my highlight of these 90 amazing minutes). I hope this isn't the last time we see Sasha - he's been a revelation, and played some brilliant lines ("Your dad was an idiot." "Do you keep Auntie Vanessa in a lickle doll's house?" "Got to dress for the occasion," to perfection. There was a cat that reaslly was gone.) Extraordinary actor. My pre-order for BF's Call Me Master is guaranteed.
The list goes on: clever visuals like tracking The Doctor and Yaz running into the TARDIS as the Cybermen fire at them (still rotten shots). The Doctor, still defiant after threat after threat is piled onto her. Previous Doctors making a brief reappearance is always great to see - who'd have thought that Doctor Eight would be the grumpy one this time around? Arshad making a triumphant return. Nick Briggs doing a brilliant job voicing bucket loads of different Daleks. Jo Martin.
And then ...
Smaller moments, like Yaz's reaction to Tegan's "We used to be you," line. Not petulant and sullen like Rose when she met Sarah Jane, but genuinely not knowing how to react.
It might be said that previous Nu-Who Doctor's finales haven't been all that great (I found out recently even Matt Smith wasn't keen on his own last story). This is the exception, and Chris C's much maligned era has gone out on a huge high. This is as good as Doctor has been and I loved every darned second of it. Exposition heavy this era may have been, but it has been visually stunning throughout.
A true celebratory story then, positive and bursting with energy. Loved it.
