I thought Living In Eclectic Dreams was a mixed bag. A terrific original idea in the Kantrofarri, used to their full on television, and extended beyond that here. There were some good scenes, an interesting cameo, and Colin was given some nice reflective moments. The twist has been done before with Old Sixie, so it’s not unfamiliar ground, so I wasn’t quite as enamoured of this as I was with the first two tales. Perhaps a further listen will change my mind. It wouldn’t be the first time.
For my money, If I Should Die Before I Wake, made better use of the Dream Crabs. The fairytale mystery, and the Doctor’s playful place within it, reminded me of the early adventures Doc 8 and Charley endured in the Divergent Universe – so, again , familiar ground. But the twist was more effective; I don’t make a habit of reading cast lists, and didn’t see it coming.
This could be my favourite ongoing Who range in many ways. The notion of different Doctors meeting with recurring monsters (glad to hear The Silence are returning for two tales next time) gives each set the feel of an ongoing multi-Doctors story, without ever having to bother Blinovitch unnecessarily!

Hey mark687 just FYI I'm the one who modified your thread title just a hair. I'm sure by now that "(S A)" would be clear to all us forum regulars, but I was thinking it might be a little opaque to anyone newly registered or just googling their way in.

Together in Eclectic Dreams I rather enjoyed even though its twists and turns are pretty visible from the start. If I Should Die Before I Wake was, to my way of thinking, much less successful. I suppose if one knows the Dream Crabs are involved, one knows a lot of the story going in. And they were not going to have the companion operating in a dream state for back to back stories. I liked a lot of the 8/Charley interactions but overall the thing just didn’t hang together very well.

The House that Hoxx Built. An okay 3rd Doctor story, not that I've been following the 3rd Doctor Adventures, mind you. (But why oh why did I keep expecting it to turn into the Heinlein short story 'and he built a crooked house')

Tivolian - the 4th Doctor 'funny' story complete with daft names. Feeble Feebis, Dr Kleeb as a version of Gag Halfrunt, Agent Gallio = Agent Yellow, and I'm sure there's lots more in there that I failed to unpack, including possibly bits of the plot of The Man Who Knew Too Much which I haven't seen for decades. Can't quite see what it had to do with the stuff of nightmares - unless you count the distant threat of the Krevellons. There really wasn't anything spooky in there at all.

The last story was okay. What really makes this story is the amazing performances and the wonderful joy of having Charley back together with 8. The plot itself is not really surprising, since we know who the monsters are and how they operate. So you can guess pretty soon what exactly is going on. As I said, the draw is more hearing 8 and Charley bantering again, the story itself will not blow your mind.
Altogether, the set is enjoyable and above average. Strangely enough, the story I was least looking forward to (Tivolian who knew to much) turned out to be the most fun. However, I have to say that this is not as good as the previous two releases.

I love the potential for mind-mangling with the DCs, and the cross-over in the 3rd story. If - is a good romp through Greek mythology too.

If I should die before I wake: I practically wanted to strangle Charley myself before the writer got to the inevitable twist (I doubted a writer would make any companion legitimately that annoying). I would have preferred the whole spoiling the story until the 'tapestry' is closer to finished thing took quite a bit too long.

Listened to the first 2, both very good.
If I had to criticise, I would say the Hoxx was just generic alien in the opening story, it didnt need to be the Hoxx in it. The story could have been done with A N Other alien and been virtually identical
Maybe the problem is that the Moxx was not well enough developed on TV in the first place to give Tim Foley much to work with

The House that Hoxx Built I love the world building in this one, but I found the plot a bit boring in the end. 3/5
The Tivolian Who Knew Too Much This was tremendous fun. A terrific concept for the alien. 5/5
Together in Eclectic Dreams I really didn't like Last Christmas, but the Dream Crabs and the subsequent dream logic are used much more effectively here. I'm not so up to date on the latest Sixth Doctor Adventures, so I just assumed the new companion was from his range. Made the twist even more fun. 4/5
If I Should Die Before I Wake My favourite pair together again. And just the two of them, pissing about in some story telling game. XD Gives it a very Companion Chronicle vibe. 5/5
Overall, a 4/5 Box.

Just finished listening to the set today. I was disappointed that they used the Dream Crabs in two stories in the same set. Still, a good set overall.
