As we will never get number of sales from BF (unless they sell out of the CD), I thought it would be interesting to see how many of our members have bought this. This is totally unscientific and does not indicate the level of success of this range. I don't think it will upset anyone at BF (after all we are entitled to our opinions) but if anyone is offended by this poll, it can be removed.
Cheers
Tony

The Prisoner has simply never appealed to me.
When ITV did a re-boot I never even gave it a chance.
However I hope this does well. I would hate for it to only have the four episodes and not get the chance to develop into a full run and most importantly finish properly. I always hate it when that happens on television series.

Pre-order from Amazon. I like to support BF direct on orders but 25% cheaper is just not even close. £29 as opposed to £40.

I pre-ordered it from Big Finish. In the end, it is The Prisoner and I've requested it for so many years now I didn't see how I could not buy it. And yes, I think it is way, way too expensive. I don't see the need, nor do I ever, for "deluxe" packaging and the reimagined aspect of existing episodes does not fill me with confidence. Still, for the reasons listed at the start and because I'm willing to give Nick & company the benefit of the doubt, I bought it.

I'm still on the fence about this. If I do go for it, it will be CD because of the price difference with the download. Providing BF don't sell out of the limited edition, there should be plenty of copies at Amazon.
Cheers

I have absolutely no interest in this one. The trailers and the teaser released last week have done nothing to grab my interest. Personally, I'd rather see BF do more with the Avengers, that I would happily drop cash on.

Price for me if it was $20 DL I would have gotten it. But $35 is too much to try out a new series.

So how many of us have no interest because of the price point t would have interest in the range if not for the price tag?

Personally, I'd rather see BF do more with the Avengers, that I would happily drop cash on. Price for me if it was $20 DL I would have gotten it. But $35 is too much to try out a new series. My biggest concern for this is the prohibitive price, especially considering how much of the material is taken from the cheaper DVD/Blu-Ray set which holds all the episodes. The more conventional Box Set would still have the same content, but be far more affordable (it's easier to get 10 people to pay $10 than to get 1 person to pay $100 for example). The sales figures would probably be better and there'd be more coverage of how many people are listening, and thus more people to spread the word. The marketing campaign has also been unusually aggressive for a first entry of a range. We're getting daily videos promoting the release, something that usually happens for more high-profile releases with an established fan-base with Big Finish already (UNIT: Dominion, Dark Eyes, Tenth Doctor, Bernice Summerfield, Bloodlust etc.). It's also shutting out promotion of releases like Avengers, which has received little marketing. If not for the more attentive fans, people wouldn't have realised that it was coming out this month! I'm almost grateful for the lack of regular podcasts at the moment, it'd be one endless Prisoner plug that'd make me want to send Nick Briggs to the Island!

I'm a fan of The Prisoner, owning the original, but the fact they're redoing old episodes instead of purely doing their own thing has made me want to wait and see what people think before purchasing this one.

No interest. And frankly, a bit tired of a new Prisoner news article popping up on the BF main page every 5 damn minutes.

I selected "still thinking about it".
It's hard to say that THIS or THAT is the reason I haven't picked up a copy of The Prisoner yet.
I'm a fan of the original series, and own a copy on DVD. I'm excited when I see episodes of The Simpsons or Pinky & the Brain that are set in their own version of The Village. But like other people here have said, the ITV reboot did not entice me at all.
Sure, the series is pricey, and that's a factor, but if even it were free, I still wouldn't have the time right now to listen. I'm purchasing and listening to so many BF series right now already. My time is saturated.
The fact that BF's series is a reboot / reimagining is also a factor. It leaves me feeling like I already know what happens in the series. But I also can't say that it would be an improvement on matters to do a series with continuity set in among the TV series. Such stories would necessarily be limited in what they could do.
So, I'm "still thinking about it".

It's not scientific by any stretch of the imagination but I would guess that the poll results on this thread probably scale up quite accurately. I've been thinking for months now how fed up I am of the constant promotion for this series and it's just got worse and worse the closer we've come to the release date.
This is Nick Briggs baby, he's been wanting to do this for years and years. BF get the rights, probably at quite a high cost which in turn meant that they need to charge more for the finished product, so they've wrapped it up in pretty packaging to try to make it seem worth the money. The way this has been promoted, literally shoved down our throats for months make me think that it's not sold anything like as well as they needed it to.
I'm one of the few people on this poll who has bought this, although that's as my other half wants to hear it. I was going to quite happily let it slip by, he read about it in Vortex and asked why I hadn't ordered it (which never happens, it's usually the complete opposite!).
I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt we'll get a second series.

I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt we'll get a second series. If the product was more affordable in the first place more people could afford it, and be in a position to buy it if they so chose. At the very least a regular box set option could have been a good alternative for non-die hard collectors, like with Light at the End and the Novel Adaptations (the Doctor Who releases had the in-built listener base already, who were somewhat familiar with the content). For an opening release, it'd have been far more beneficial to go with the regular box set model, as more individuals could afford it, the money would still be recouped and there would be more people potentially singing the praises both online and in real life. Confessions of Dorian Gray started out as a series of dirt-cheap downloads, only the usual amount of marketing and promotion, yet the sheer quality of the stories spoke out to the masses, and look how far Dorian has come. Sometimes it's best to let the quality speak for itself instead of forcing the stories towards people.
