I’ll wait for more news, but initially this sounds quite good. John Dorney and Jonathan Barnes(the release page lists him as the second writer) are always names I enjoy seeing in the upcoming schedule. And this might be a truly standalone set as well, which is a nice change of pace.

Why am I so strangely happy when Big Finish announces a set without a gimmick or a crossover/returning element, nowadays ? I'm confused.

Because a lot of the sets have had some sort of gimmicky thing in them. I think it might be to get new listeners to join with the new box set model and after a year they can start backing off a bit on returning elements.

I wouldn’t put money on the second story being free of returning elements, continuity, etc. otherwise I feel as though they’d have revealed details of the full set.
Still, three part episodes is great and it is refreshing to get a news piece promoting an intriguing sounding story without any hooks or gimmicks.

I'm hoping BF will slow down on the gimmicky box sets for the upcoming year indeed. I have been buying less and less of their box sets over the past few months, as I'm really getting tired of the constant returning elements. Which is probably the reason why the Ninth Doctor range has been my favorites as of late. I'm really hoping Big Finish can calm down a bit regarding the returning elements after this first year.

It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if the second story featured the return of some companion or character. Gatiss Master, Sherlock Holmes (which wouldn’t be completely out of the blue considering the writer’s work on the range), most likely the Daleks really it could be anything.

Unlike Warner Doctor, Gatiss Master is really in some weird limbo state at the moment. No doubt mainly it’s because of Gatiss’s’ availability (or lack there of) but it would be nice to see the character explored more. Think they’d be a great story in the idea of the Doctor having to deal with a completely unpredictable Master whose mindset is different to the main universe one.

It's interesting that the last trilogy this team had featured no returning elements and it was bleeding superb!!

Ooh, I don't think I've listened to any Dorney scripts with the 5th Doctor yet... I'm eager to see his take on the character. (No need to remind me about Iterations if I -- it's on my list!) .... Think they’d be a great story in the idea of the Doctor having to deal with a completely unpredictable Master whose mindset is different to the main universe one. I emphatically agree. This Master has already (basically) conquered the universe, and destroyed the universe, so I imagine--let loose--he'd be far more unpredictable. Not quite sure how he'd play things in a "normal" story (IE not an "event" story like Masterful). Maybe he'd be a bit more like an amoral Doctor, mostly just trying to instigate chaos for his own amusement?

To be honest, I could see him being more destructive and less concerned for his own sense of self preservation. If he ever came to the conclusion that the existence of the Master is a Multiversal constant then it really doesn’t matter whether he lives or dies. They’ll always be another Master just a few universes away...

You're eager to see his take on the Fifth Doctor but you haven't listened to one of the best Fifth Doctor stories ever?! Iterations of I has only been out nearly EIGHT years!!! I'd start there if I was you! No need to remind me about Iterations if I -- it's on my list! Yes, there was need!!!

The MR trilogy of Five, Tegan & Nyssa has set an exceptionally high standard for this TARDIS team, so more of them (and without the usual crutches of old monsters/return of [x]) is intriguing, plus the unusual format. I will hold off until the second story is detailed though.

The Burning Prince is a REALLY good! Honestly I think it's my favorite of the Wrath trilogy. Plus, it's the first, so you can listen to it without any of the others (although I personally think they all stand alone quite well and are pretty good.) Sadly Dorney hasn't written a lot for 5, because he's very good at it.

I have a habit of saving stories I'm especially looking forward to for (literal) rainy days. Also I think I've managed to listen to an awful lot of Big Finish considering I only really started listening to it 2 years ago. The only Doc I can claim to have 100%'d is McGann's. I'll probably wind up listening to 'The Burning Prince' first, though, as it's relatively close to the bottom of my queue (I think I've only got 4-5 MRs before it, and I'll definitely be skipping Evelyn's because I am not really looking forward to 100%ing her). Kinda stuck in this weird balancing act where I alternate between the newest and oldest releases in my collection.
