I was initially a bit sceptical about this release, as I wasn't to enamoured with the ending of Stranded 4. What Lies Inside? really felt like a stylistic return to the Lucie Miller days though, so despite the continued presence of both Liv and Helen (who I had thought we were probably finished with) as well as yet more Daleks, I actually found myself really enjoying this release. I personally preferred Paradox of the Daleks to The Dalby Spook, but Paradox made one big mistake - it mentioned the fact that there was a paradox in the story. For me, that meant trying to guess what was going on right from the get-go, rather than being surprised as the story unfolded. As a result, I was anywhere between 5 to 40 minutes ahead of the characters at any given moment, because the clues to what was going on seemed a little too obvious to me on the first go through. I don't even need to listen to it a second time to understand it because I was able to predict 95% of it. I think that's why I enjoyed it so much though, as knowing i was ahead of the characters was actually quite fun. The Dalby Spook was also fun, but I did find my attention drifting towards the end. I was a bit tired at the time, so maybe a re-listen when fully attentive would have me placing it before Paradox as a number of other people seem to. I'm just glad I've enjoyed a box set from start to finish. I think this is probably the first of the 2022 rebranded sets that I've actually enjoyed all three hours of. Other sets have certainly had their moments, but none have been as enjoyable as this for me. Which is weird, because it was one of the ones I went in to with the least expectations! I think it's just that breath of fresh air by not having another 18-24 month wait get from the start of a storyline to the end and just enjoying some casual Doctor Who stories. They're good for the soul

Finally got around to finishing the set with The Dalby Spook and I feel like it is my favorite 8th Doctor box in years & years. I’ve moaned several times that the arc heavy box sets were producing diminishing returns and the 8DAs were feeling stale whereas with this set, a return to one & done episodes, the range feels kind of reborn. McGann is in fine form as are Walker & Morahan. The writing on both stories were top notch with Pringle & Mooney really being names to keep an eye on. After Stranded I was ready to walk away from the 8DA range but this has me reinvested in following it.

Thoroughly enjoyed both stories. So nice to be back to stories in the old tradition rather than saving the galaxy / universe over 16 episodes in box sets. And a return to taking something 'historical' and giving it the Whovian spin. Lovely.
Personally I'm glad we're not yet on a 'new companions' kick. This group works very well together and deserve to continue. I find the near-constant churn of Sixie's companions a bit of an annoyance to be honest.

When they do get around to changing up the TARDIS team, I hope we get a period of Solo stories, rather than just immediately getting some new companions. But, yeah, this crew works together really well (even if one of the trio continues to be consistently underused) and I agree, better to stick with what works than get stuck going through a bunch of short-lived mini-companions that are more hit-or-miss. I love Colin Baker's stuff to death, but they've really been struggling to find him another 'great' companion since Evelyn.

I loved Paradox of the Daleks. Sure, as a monster they're over exposed, but when they're used this fun and creatively, who the hell cares? Not as keen on The Dalby Spook. I like the themes it was going for and the general vibe, but it felt like the story really had to force the creature's uncooperativeness and the Doctor's pig-headedness to generate the tension.

Please can anyone advise - do these sets have much reference back to the Stranded series?
These box sets seem to have been well received, so I am thinking about either buying them or the Eighth Doctor’s Time War continuation with any Christmas money (assuming I get some!)
However, as I haven’t heard any of Stranded and don’t want to buy new stories that reference past stories I haven’t heard (I have all the previous EDAs pre Stranded) I just wondered if these are for me.

What Lies Inside you don't need any previous knowledge at all for In the case of Connections what pervious information you need to know is recapped at the beginning of the last story. Regards mark687

I was thinking of listening to the new 8th Doctor story "In the Bleak Midwinter" and then noticed I hadn't listened to the 2022 stories. I guess that happens when you are about 50 Big Finish adventures behind. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed these two stories. The Paradox was just mind-bending. Just so warped. The Dalby Spook fooled me as it did The Doctor. Quite a wild ride. I've unzipped Connections to put that into the rotation.
