If I think of Dr Lang as a sociopath who's really bad at acting like he isn't, I can keep from busting out laughing at him and take him a bit more seriously. It's harder every time Powell is doing the voice of someone from the afterlife on the show. :-)
Still enjoying Bloodlust so much that it really is difficult not to jump ahead to next week's chapters. That was another good spot for the Friday cliffhanger, too.

Indeed. The better planned you are, the easier it is going forwards. But it's nice to have a surprise when you're writing too. Doctor Lang is... something else. Dark Shadows Every Day describes Addison Powell as "the worst actor who ever appeared on Dark Shadows". And that's with Craig Slocum as a benchmark. To my knowledge the character hasn't appeared in any audios. I wouldn’t say he is terrible actor at all i have seen and heard worse Oh he is. Bellowing and gurning all the time. He's a ham actor in the style of Graham Crowden, just not as beautifully cooked. That said...you're right. There are worse actors out there. Just not necessarily on DS.

I grew up in the Mid Atlantic. I spent seven years living in Massachusetts (with many friends and trips to places more north in Maine than where Collinsport ought to be). I also lived in London and Tennessee. I still am told what is and isn't American or English. Honestly, both countries have a lot of little nuanced dialects that it's hard to keep track and these are constantly changing.
If we nitpick, the original series only really had one character with the actual Maine accent (Matthew Morgan) with a fine blend of actors across the US struggling to say things like Bangor correctly (BANG-or), witch trails into the 1840s (interestingly there was a "vampire" case in Rhode Island in 1892- google Mercy Brown incident if you're bored), characters running around frigid Maine in the winter without coats, a lot of microphones no one seemed to notice, and an odd abundance of prostitutes and police officers named George Patterson.
Despite all this, I love it so, warts and all, both then and now. I know Big Finish works so hard to make an authentic Collinsport and I trust their efforts, but I also know that something brilliant (in both the "American" and "English" sense) doesn't have to be completely perfect.

Ah. Dribbling them out, episode by episode. I'm waiting till they're done to listen to the rest. Well, it's how it was originally released after all. I really enjoyed the release pattern of Bloodlust way back then. Two a week, always at midnight (feel sorry for the poor soul who had to be ready online to post it, though). It did feel like a proper serial and I remember the excitement of waiting for it to "drop" so we could listen and then read what people thought... I mean, I knew what happened because I'd had to read the scripts because my first story followed on from it, but even so... it was still an exciting time. (I will probably hide under a duvet when Bloodline is released though.)

Even in the audios it's more supernaturally-tinged mystery (although Beyond the Grave and The Happier Dead areI think actually terrifying, but I'd say they're an exception not the rule). Your mileage may vary of course.

Just makes the playing out of it more of an event somehow. Agreed! The excitement and anticipation was half the fun, and there was a real ‘community’ feel as we all listened at the same time and discussed it here—the metaphorical next-day-at-the-office-around-the-water-cooler discussion! So excited to be able to do that again!
