I'll take that consult job as well. I DID catch it! Lol!
I catch so many "Anglicanisms" that slip through BF audios when they are supposed to have American characters or settings. I have to say that I don't catch as many on newer audios as opposed to older stories. They used to bother me a lot more than they do now. Now I notice it, make a little comment about it in my head, and then move on.

I love Snowflake and Ep 1! Great to hear them again--as everyone says, a nice, slow buildup, and I recall thinking the same as many of you--that Melody must be here for the long haul. The ending shocked me the first go round. It was really fun hearing it this time.
What I love about Bloodlust is that it is multi-character, but it takes its sweet time introducing all the players. If I recall, each episode brings in only a few more at a time, so as not to overload the listener. That was a very nice way of doing it.
On the Anglicanisms--the only one that frequently jumps out at me because it's just not used much in the states is adding "yeah?" at the end of a statement to make it a 'sort-of' question. This happens all the time in Bloodlust and the post-Bloodlust dramas. For an example--listen to the Bloodlust trailer. Walles Hammond's (Cody's) character intro does it. Also, listen to the Tainted Love trailer. "And it's David & Amy, yeah?"....
As Rob says, they DO try, and if DCProd don't catch it, then it's obviously not that big of a deal. It certainly doesn't affect quality!

The interesting thing I find is that people have a strong idea of what's British and American English. And often it boils down to just your own experience.
I was once told "never write an American saying Happy Christmas, they always say Merry Christmas instead."
Guess what phrase I then heard an American on a US TV show say only hours later? Yup... the Happy version.
(To be honest it would never have occurred to me to use Happy Christmas in the first place. Simply because I don't hear that version in the UK very often. The person giving the advice, however, was convinced it was a common UKism.)
But anyway... we digress. Any more thoughts on episode 1?

I have listened to quite a few BF Dark Shadows stories, without being familiar with the old Tv-series,and the way I approach them is simply to enjoy each story for what it is,and not worry too-much about chronology or canon, although the more you listen the more you pick-up. so Bloodlust episode one, takes place in Collinsport,I know many fanatic DS fans do not consider it to be a DS story if it is set outside of Collinwood,or collinsport, this of course is nonsense.BTW rob "curse of Shurafa!was excellent! my suggestion for Bloodline is please supply us all with scripts.(I know it aint gonna happen) In this 1st episode(24 minutes)please correct me if I am wrong, there are twelve characters.i need to make a list! Its a lot to get your head round, those were my thoughts when I first heard it. so the episode draws you in,the newlyweds arrive its all sweetness and light.the locals are nicey-nicey but at the same time weird!Funny peculiar, there is a strange tension in the air! Melody is murdered! typical DS the last person you would have expected.so on to episode 2.

I agree Rob--the colloquial vernacular of a region really does have more to do with individual experiences. I've noticed that myself.
Thoughts on Ep. 1.... One of the things I did this time was pay closer attention to the wonderful Alexandra Donnachie from the start. Jackie became a favorite of mine the first time I heard Bloodlust, but it wasn't until later episodes that I really started to love the character. This time, I have to remark about just how GOOD Alexandra is! She's completely believable as a bored American teenager, perhaps a little too smart for her own good, trying to find her place in a strange, small, isolated town like Collinsport. Shades of early Carolyn Stoddard except that Carolyn was a spoiled heiress.
I also love Susan--always have! This episode had the first (of many) OMG Bloodlust moments--and Susan was it!

I hope I can take all the excitement of revisiting Bloodlust plus a slew of new Big Finish releases and Big Finish Day this coming week!
This time though I'm at least going to wait until after dark to listen to Dark Shadows... Last time I couldn't wait to listen the minute the episodes downloaded and it was mostly unseasonably bright and sunny the whole time which is just plain wrong, especially since our normal weather is a lot like Collinsport.

Speaking of Trask, Jerry Lacy does a very good job at making Trask and Tony Peterson sound like different people. At leat I never have a problem telling them apart.

So, onto episode 2...where the Cunninghams enter the picture. Andrew has a certain charm (at least if you don’t listen to what he’s actually saying), but it’s Amy who is most interesting here for me. She’s so downtrodden in this episode. All the fire and inquisitiveness is gone, she’s ground down by her life. That has to change.
It’s a surprisingly sedate episode this one. But that really gives it a chance to flesh things out nicely.
Drunk Amy is great fun (so Stephanie Ellyne gets my performance of the episode award), and the big revelation of the episode is intriguing too. No… not that Mike and Amy know each other, but that Collinsport has its first (out) gay. Hello Eagle!

I love that we're doing a relisten and basically everyone has covered what I would say (fantastic story, I loved how they built up the characters and taking out Melody at the end was a great way to even get long term DS veterans' heads spinning). Hopefully I'll be able to get in early or have something interesting to say next time. Oh wait...
When these came out last year, there was a blizzard basically every Monday and the whole town would shut down. I would foolishly decide this was the best time to go for a run. I will always think of listening to Bloodlust while running through a blizzard.

I think this is the first time I've heard Snowflake since the last episode of Bloodlust was released, it's actually quite good and not as disconnected from the main story as I seemed to remember. It's a shame I had to meet characters who are mentioned in Snowflake before I really realized what a good set-up it is for the big story.
The first episode of Bloodlust really is remarkable, it seems more perfect every time I hear it. First time around I think I wanted to have the complaint of Victor and Melody both being sort of disposable, but that's probably not fair to say. Melody comes across as so likable that I really wanted to find out what happened to her, and I think that owes both to Daisy Torme giving a great performance (KLS' recommendation of her was truly a brilliant idea) and of course the wonderful writing. Melody could have been harder to care about because we never really got to know her, but it all seems to work just the opposite and I'm sure that's no accident.
Also I think there's an incredibly good balance struck between looking forward and looking back because at center stage of episode 1 are all new characters but they're still resplendent of characters at center stage in the very first episode of the TV series which is no doubt another deliberate and very skillful gesture, and I think it makes the casting of Mike equally excellent to the casting of Melody.

Just a thought - is anyone reading this thread and commenting whilst listening to Bloodlust for the first time? If so, point that out - as people will take care to comment on the 'current' episode and not preempt future plot points.

I will try and listen to Ep 2 tomorrow. Today's horrible events have left me in quite a daze and I'm not up for listening to much.

Well at least that was my first impression. I did like his son Harry a lot though. Seems like a nice kid. And nice to see more of the teenagers. And yes the ending revelation did shock me. So I can assume it was Mike who was tied to the town through Amy? But how do they know each other. I guess Ill have to listen to the next episode to find out. Not being so familiar with Dark Shadows itself I'd say this series gives me vibes of Fargo and Twin Peaks and other small town mystery series (It also reminds me of the anime Shiki but I doubt many people will be familiar with that here).

In Snowflake, Victor Frost gets a cold welcome from everyone but a young girl. In episode one Mike and Melody are warmly greeted. Except for that part where everyone gives them vague warnings about Collinsport. Melody was so happy and energetic, in hindsight she had to go. Collinsport hates happy.
I'm just starting on watching the videos so I am not very familiar with details on the characters.
All sorts of interesting questions. How did Kate's former boss come to know Andrew to recommend him for a job? Does Andrew really cheat at cards? How do Mike and Amy know each other? Who is Reverend Trask's mistress?
Cody saying he heard voices from the cave by Widow's Hill gives a rough time frame for Victor's demise. I wonder if that's included in all the murders the sheriff is investigating that will make her daughter a nun.
The episode expands on the various relationships. The meddling kids sneaking around, Maggie, Kate, and Amy. Andrew being a jerk to almost everyone.
