Oh kimalysong--it's so fun experiencing these again through your eyes (ears?)....I love group listen-thru's and will make a prediction that you will be so hooked on Dark Shadows by the end of Bloodlust that you will want to do it all, including the original series! Also, looking forward to the Dorian Gray listen thru with you also! Still wish it was release-order because that's always my favorite way, but I don't really care.
Ok--so Ep. 2! Funny that Andrew kind of rubbed you the wrong way. I found that I liked him from the start--yes, he's a controlling misogynist, but Matthew Waterhouse is just SO good that I find him hard to dislike.
Yes, Harry is great--much more on him to come. Well, much more of everyone before we get done here.

In Snowflake, Victor Frost gets a cold welcome from everyone but a young girl. In episode one Mike and Melody are warmly greeted. Except for that part where everyone gives them vague warnings about Collinsport. Melody was so happy and energetic, in hindsight she had to go. Collinsport hates happy. The difference in welcomes might be down to that Victor is by himself and asking strange questions (is there any way to ask if people believe in ghosts that isn't usual?) while Mike and Melody are newly-weds on their honeymoon, so naturally people are more likely to be more interested in them. Poor, poor Melody. Is she really gone for the rest of the 12 episodes? To quote the synopsis, "For in Collinsport, death is never the end..."

Kim, I also think it's great hearing your thoughts for the first time around.
I think I liked Matthew Waterhouse even more this time around; a great performance of a really crappy person. (I really loved him in The Creeping Fog, but I heard him as Andrew first.)

[quote author=" topper" All sorts of interesting questions. How did Kate's former boss come to know Andrew to recommend him for a job? Does Andrew really cheat at cards? How do Mike and Amy know each other? Who is Reverend Trask's mistress? Cody saying he heard voices from the cave by Widow's Hill gives a rough time frame for Victor's demise. I wonder if that's included in all the murders the sheriff is investigating that will make her daughter a nun. The episode expands on the various relationships. The meddling kids sneaking around, Maggie, Kate, and Amy. Andrew being a jerk to almost everyone. [/quote] your questioNs are just like those we had at the first listenthu. Much more fun to come. Edgar McGuire will have more at his 110m radio cast.

I didn't realize it was Matthew Waterhouse playing Andrew at first. So performance wise he did do an impressive job for me.

It actually reminds me of the way Colin is greeted in House by the Sea. {Spoiler}Where the blue whale is full, but you find out later it's just Ghosts, staring at him. It also implies that Victor Shows up right around the end of the last Audio set, so the town would be understandably more subdued.

Okay, so I listened to this last night, and I do feel this is a step sideways from the first Episode. At least, that's the best words I have to describe my feelings. The first episode was a tour of our sets, the Inn, the Blue Whale, the Wharf, even Collinwood gets name checked, along with the mine. We check in with many of the players on the stage for this murder mystery drama, and our cliff-hanger is THE MURDER.
And Episode 2 starts the same way Episode 1 starts, a Family goes to Collinsport. A larger family, but a family none the less. We learn more of our characters. Where Melody and Mike were our focus characters of Episode 1, Rhonda and Harry is for Episode 2. The Murder mystery starts up, we get people's alibi's. Was it Trask? or Ed Griffin? Maybe Kate Ripperton? And our first hint of supernatural occurs, the body was drained of blood!
I liked this Episode, probably because it feels to me like a slow down from Episode 1. A chance to breath and think about what's happened. It's even the next day, not a continuation.
I also admire that the thrust of this series so far is on new characters in Collinsport. It'd be easy to make Maggie center stage of this drama, but instead new characters are brought forth to be in the spotlight. Maggie is a side character, obviously important, a glue that seems to connect a lot of the people in Collinsport, but she isn't the center.
Also, I can't conclude without mentioning how much I enjoy Jerry Lacy. Easliy between Bloodlust and the Tony Peterson stories, my favorite. (Well Maybe except for David Selby, but I love that mans voice.)

Winner of the Best Bloodlust Actor Award as voted for by readers of the original forum and the Collinsport Historical Society. There's an (several?) awards ceremony podcast(s) you can listen to once you've heard Bloodlust...

Episode 3, then?
It's here Andrew becomes annoying for me. If only for the fact I couldn’t live with someone who’s that good at mornings. Plus he's really starting to show his true colours here so the initial charm definitely wears thin.
Some of the relationships on display here are lovely, though. Rhonda and Isaiah are partciularly great – and the fact he has a sense of humour (I love the “soggy” quip) makes him so much more sympathetic – and Andrew less so when he calls Isaiah a withered alcoholic.
Plus Angelique and Harry are surprisingly sweet aren’t they? I love that Angelique isn’t the one-dimensional villain that she could so easily have been. Even on the TV show you felt for her despite some of her deeds. Lara Parker is astonishing.
That said I always giggle when the family of a murder victims claim the deceased didn’t have any enemies. Just once I want someone to say “well, sorry, but they clearly had at least one”.

I feel this was the first episode where things really started moving. Not that they were slow before but I was surprised at how much stuff happened in this episode compared to the first two. * I was under the impression after the first episode that Mike saw Susan, didn't just hear her husband talking to her. Obviously this episode shows I was wrong about that. Can others hear Susan? Or is she just visible/auditory to her husband? * I was pretty surprised that Andrew actually knew what was going on supernatural wise. Was not expecting that one. * I am still really loving Harry. He seems so normal in such a weird world (and considering who his father is that's pretty impressive). * Liked the interaction between Mike and Amy. * I was very surprised with how engrossed we got in the supernatural stuff here. Not so much with the possible vampire connection or even Susan because there was built up with that. But we were knee deep with Angelique in the mine. Is she the secret of the mine or is there something else going on? * Also was this the first time we met Mr. Collins? * Also thank goodness for the cast list on the Big Finish site because I am horrible with keeping track of everyone. This episode was especially hard.

Surprised somewhat on re-listening how well Episode 2 moves right along - I suppose last time I was a bit impatient for Barnabas, Quentin or Angelique to appear, but the story really doesn't miss a beat. I'm pleasantly surprised as well at how much I've actually missed this group of new characters and hearing them all together, I think that says a lot for what a fine job was done introducing new characters in Bloodlust. Jerry Lacy really is brilliant here and so is the characterization of Trask - after all the baggage (old and new) that can go with that name/character, for me to have taken such an instant liking to Isaiah is really quite the accomplishment, and a wonderful change of pace. Likewise, I think Matthew Waterhouse is brilliant in playing such an insufferable character that the audience can still feel for - as last time, I wouldn't waste much time trying to like Andrew Cunningham, or hate him.

It's really ramping up isn't it? Oh, you wait until episode 4! I really hope you love it as much as I do!
Small point, Angelique's not in the mine, she's in a cave at the foot of Widows' Hill. (In the distant past of Collinsport widowed women whose menfolk were lost at sea would hurl themselves off Widows' Hill in their despair so there's been a lot of ghostly sightings rumoured round that part of the estate.)

Kim--my audio chronology and cast list from the Big Finish site is also available on this forum--it's got its own thread and I update it with each new audio! One of these days I'll do one for Dorian too.

Episode 3--I LOVE Angelique and Harry here. They are so great together. Interesting, that despite being from Martinique I don't think Angelique spoke more than two sentences in French in the entire original series--and those were probably, "Bonjour Mademoiselle!" and "Merci Monsieur!" Yet here, she waxes poetic in French quite often! It's lovely, but is a relatively new development for her.
I love the little character vignettes here...the back and forths between two characters....just wonderful. And God, Matthew Waterhouse is just sublime isn't he?

It's so nice to start off with a normal morning. Adults needing coffee and dealing with the prior nights drinking, teens needing 'sugar coated, sugar fortified, little bits of sugar with just a hint of oat flavoring" for breakfast. No wonder she's so hyper. It makes the events in the rest of the episode hit harder.
Reverend Trask has better sources than Sheriff Tate with his knowing about Mike being back while spending his time sleeping on the beach.
The lies about who was where when Melody got murdered are piling up.
Now we find out who Trasks's mistress is when Andrew goes spelunking into the ocean front cave. Andrew has done his research. Did he find out about Angelique from Amy? When Amy talked to Mike she said she stopped playing around with the supernatural after things happened and she doesn't talk about it. hmmm Andrew is an overconfident beginner thinking he can control Angelique. You know something bad is going to happen and Angelique provides a detailed and gory description of one possibility.
To top it off Harry gets a job and a new "girlfriend" who doesn't mind that he's different but what makes him different and where will he get that wine?
