Good spot. It doesn't say who's done the animation, so I wonder if they have used a different animation studio and whether this is a test? Either way, great for Dad's Army fans Cheers Tony

I didnt realise there were any missing Dad's Army episodes lol 3 of them are still missing. In 2001 Operation Kilt and The Battle of Godfrey's Cottage were recovered. They'd been copied to get execs interested in making what turned out to be the Dad's Army film from 1973. The show stil gets millions of viewers on repeats almost every Saturday nearly 50 years on. Unlike Who repeats it's never been away, really, from the schedules. It would be nice if this took off - there are so many classic series with missing eps: Hancock's Half Hour, Doomwatch and Out of the Unknown stand out. A For Andromeda is completely lost. Terry Jones bought copies of Flying Circus from the Beeb when he found out they were going to junk that...can you imagine? Bf seem to attract shows with lost eps, we know about Who, The Avengers first year is mostly lost and even Dark Shadows has a missing ep.

Oh right. Didnt realise that. Even with the repeats i always come across episodes i hadnt seen.
I'd love for the DoomWatch stuff to be found. Some well known episodes are missing of that. specifically the final episode of season 1.

You see, this is exactly what they should have done with The Underwater Menace. Hope this is released on DVD as well as in the BBC Store so I can buy it for my Dad's birthday in March.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=IX0L8WGKxEwPreview clip - they've got Arnold Ridley's eyes awful dark and Arthur Lowe certainly was tubbier than that but looks very impressive mostly. I may well buy it from the BBC Store especially at that price - it's £2.99 but till Feb 21st you can get i half price using he code STORE50 if you haven't used BBC Store before.

not sure I see the point in using the old recording, the slightly re-jigged radio version is far superior, I was given the "lost" dads army cd for xmas and surprised that it is still poor-ish quality (the laugh track dominates)when compared to radio version.
it's a good price but I don't think I will bother
I think I will live with the radio versions with superior "in my mind" visuals
but thanks for all the info, really interesting that they have done this.
I bet next Christmas we might just see it on BBC 2!
thanks again

Good point about the radio remake being better quality audio wise but they're recreating the lost TV ep, it would be a bit off to not do so as faithfully as they could. I'd like to have the Beeb repeat the black and white ones more, when the series had a bit more bite in the earlier series' and the actors weren't as immobile as they would be by the last few years.

Bought and watched this earlier for ONE POUND AND FORTY NINE PENCE. Total bargain and I think a great price for this. They even animated the opening credits! They've got the scale of the heights quite wrong though. There are a few scenes where Mainwaring looks taller than Wilson. Still - wonderful ep. Very funny, love the animation style and it moves fluidly.

I wish it was in 4:3 not 16:9 though. Seems ridiculous to expand the aspect ratio.
