One of my favourite things to rewatch is the layers of acting going on with Patrick Troughton as he plays the Doctor, Salamander, and the Doctor playing Salamander. All three are very distinctive; there's a steel-like cruelty to Salamander's eyes that you don't see when the Doctor's playing him.

Still need to watch this after getting John Levene to sign it...or attempt to anyway It's been ages (and I'll keep schtum about spoilers), but I found it quietly compelling. It's almost like a prototype Companion Chronicle, in retrospect. Come to think of it, it might be the first thing written by Andy Lane ( A Thousand Tiny Wings, et al.) I ever stumbled across. Early days. {Spoiler}I can definitely empathise with certain elements seeming a bit vague, Tim Bradley . It's never quite said why Benton sees what he does. The best conclusion I could draw at the time was that the "radioactive material" in the Land Rover was actually something else. Kind of like how the Keller Process in The Mind of Evil was powered not by a machine, but a malevolent entity. Something that reached out and cast those projections into the wilderness.

Thanks for tagging me Wolfie and thanks for your thoughts on 'Wartime'. I'll kept this in mind when it comes to revisiting the 'Wartime Chronicles' on DVD. Tim.

If you'd like something a bit meatier after Wartime Chronicles, I recommend most highly White Witch of Devil's End. Two hours of some genuinely lovely stories from Miss Hawthorne's life in the unusual village.
