of course, there's every chance that originally the series would dance around the War, but now with the War a Doctor etc .... Will we see the War? will the War Doctor turn up? will Cardinal Servelan turn up? will Ace be War's companion?

I'd personally like Gallifrey to move into the Time War, yes. I'd love some stories with Ken Bones as The General to discover how he became so powerful that as the leader of the War COuncil, he thinks nothing of going against Rassilon. That's badass - I want more of that guy!

If they have the War Doctor turn up, then I'll certainly give the Gallifrey series a go.

Gallifrey is one of my favorite BF series. The series always feels to me as if the Time War is just around the corner, cosmically speaking, to events of the series so it seems like a very natural progression.

Maybe we can have the return of Don Warrington as Rassilon, and have him regenerate into Timothy Dalton eventually?

From what we know already the Time War is post-Romana2, so I would guess Enemy Lines with Lalla Ward in it will not involve the Time War. We have yet to see Romana's regeneration, how Leela ends up where she is in the CC The Catalyst, how Ace integrates into Gallifrean society, the Eighth Doctor's post-divergent universe return to Gallifrey, the resolution of the cliffhanger in Intervention Earth etc. So lots to explore in Gallfrey before we get to the Time War.

I think this is a cool idea, but doesn't it kind of mean the end of the Galifrey series?

How would it mean the end of the Gallifrey series? It could carry on being Gallifrey-centric, just with the War as its backdrop. As to giving it a definite endpoint -- we know from nuWho how it ends, so that's kind of always been the case.

It would probably depend upon whether Moffat plans to do anything with Gallifrey now.

Hopefully the introduction of the War Doctor and the characters that will come with that range will provide interest in the Gallifrey releases.
However I do think that Big Finish expect a lot from their customers with their Gallifrey range.
Long waits between releases, radical changes in story tone, timeline shifts, a lack of explanation and a cavalier attitude to their cliffhangers.
I have given up with Gallifrey several times.
Even though I love Romana I am currently abstaining from Enemy Lines after the (IMHO) unsatisfactory Intervention Earth, but even though I will be able to get my Romana fix in the 4DAs next year I do half expect to succumb to more Gallifrey.
I guess I am gullible for Gallifrey.

Personally I always thought that the Gallifrey / Eighth Doctor timeline went something like this:
1. Divergent Universe / Gallifrey I - VI (in parallel) 2. Terror Firma - Girl Who Never Was 3. Enemy Lines 4. Romana Regenerates 5. Intervention Earth 6. End of Romana's presidency 7. New President takes office (the one in Dark Eyes 1) 8. EDAs / Dark Eyes / Doom Coalition
I am basing this pretty much on what we know about who was President and when. The alternative would be to assume that Romana had 2 different Presidencies (actually 4 when you count the President from Apocalypse Element and Matthias in Gallifrey III - VI)and the Dark Eyes President held office between Romana's latter 2 presidencies.
So I do not think Gallifrey could or should lead into the TIme War. Rather, Gallifrey should IMHO lead into the EDAs/ Dark Eyes / Doom Coalition , which in turn lead into the Time War.
N.B. I haven't listened to Doom Coalition yet, which features Gallifrey, so that might lead me to change the above.

My current interpretation/'reading order' for Eight and Gallifrey runs: Zagreus (Eight goes to the Divergent Universe) Gallifrey S1 (Doctor is mentioned as gone forever) Scherzo - Twilight Kingdom (following Eight in the DU) Gallifrey S2-4 (Eight is still in the DU while Gallifrey falls apart, Romana & co. leave through the Axis) Faith Stealer - Girl Who Never Was (Doctor returns to universe, but no visit to Gallifrey so far as we know) EDAs Dark Eyes 1 (Gallifrey has a different President + Straxus is CIA Coordinator) Gallifrey S5-6 (Romana & co. return to our universe, reset Gallifrey, resumes her Presidency) Dark Eyes 2 (Narvin is CIA Coordinator once again) Dark Eyes 3-4 Gallifrey IE (as-yet-indeterminate amount of time later) Doom Coalition 1 minor spoilers Unfortunately, a somewhat different set of Gallifrey officials in Doom Coalition has thrown me for a bit of a loop. Need more data -- presumably in Enemy Lines, DC2-4, and whatever the sequel to Intervention Earth is -- before I can figure out what the heck is going on here.

Plus Gallifrey 6 does not suggest there was any President other than Matthias bewtween 3 and 6, whereas we meet a different President in DE1.
