Was I listening to a different story than the rest of you? Because I really enjoyed this set. I liked Storm of the Sea Devils tremendously. Especially since the last TV Doctor Who story that had them was, well, underwhelming. I thought it was the Harry's best Big Finish story. He's usually just there as the bumbling friend who trips over the right solution. We have finally put the puzzle of how Naomi and Harry were thrown together and how they ended up travelling with the Doctor. I still say the decision to introduce this team in the middle of their travels was not a good one. Tracey Wiles is always a treat, and the rest of the cast was terrific. Worlds Beyond may not have been groundbreaking, but it was certainly enjoyable. Brilliantly summed up đź‘Ť

On the whole I’d say this box is on the upper end of the average bracket, but there’s also nothing here that I’d recommend to a newcomer. No real complaints but it falls into the ever growing category of stories that, if they didn’t exist, I’d not feel the loss of.

Fresh up on CultBox, my take on 'Storm of the Sea Devils' - loved the setting and Bond villain tropes, then 'Worlds Beyond' was fun. Great to have Harry back and not the butt of the joke, I'm less sold on Naomi. A sold start to Tom's 13th series at Big Finish.

This was an okay introduction for Naomi and and excellent re-introduction for Harry. On the whole Storm of the Sea Devils gave both companions moments to shine, but Worlds Beyond let them down. I feel like both their VR scenarios were under-baked. I can barely remember them. Whereas the Doctor got a very vivid and memorable scenario. I felt like Storm of the Sea Devils made good use of the Sea Devils. I especially liked the idea that global warming may benefit them, and they think they might be better off waiting for humanity to do ourselves in.

Storm of the Sea Devils was a middle of the road story elevated by Tom Baker & Christopher Naylor’s performances. Tom is in his element and is pure Doctor in a way that is sometimes forgotten in his own range. And to say this was presumably one of, if not the, first performance Naylor did as Harry, it’s comfortable his best. Naomi is fine, although with so many other performances I’m not sure she’ll ever be a favourite at this point, nor does the decision to do her era out of order work. The Sea Devils themselves didn’t amount to much and the story seemed to end abruptly; I actually thought it was a six parter.
Worlds Beyond I loved. Doesn’t outstay its welcome, lots of lovely moments and despite its short runtime balances four different plots very well indeed. I’m pleasantly surprised this was the highlight of the set, as based on the cover, set title, etc. you’d be forgiven for not thinking there was another story.
Looking forward to the next set.
