@ number13 Looks like your prediction came true! 'Monty James'! Yes, it does, that was his name to his college friends - and the story he's in is called 'Lost Hearts'!!
For anyone who isn't quite such a big M.R.James fan , 'Lost Hearts' is also the title of one of James' ghost stories - one of the most gruesome and darkest, so dark in fact that it's said he wondered whether to publish it. It was published of course and eventually became famous all over again thanks to the now-legendary 1970s 'Ghost Story for Christmas' BBC TV adaptation.
Presumably this Eighth Doctor story will lean on some of the elements of the James story - but whatever happens it can't be made into his inspiration for writing the famous tale, because it was only his second published ghost story, in 1895, well before the 1903 date we've been given for the setting of this 'Lost Hearts'. (Published again as part of his first collection 'Ghost Stories of an Antiquary' in 1904. Maybe that's what his meeting with the Doctor inspires.)
I'm looking forward to this one with more than the usual interest!

Not watching any tweet about 'Echoes', not listening to any trailer about 'Echoes'...
*sticks fingers in ears, shuts eyes, avoids all and any possible mini-spoilers*
(No pressure BF but after the expectation build-up I'm trying to do, your story with M.R.James had better a) really be him and b) really be good! )
