I've been burned enough by post-game shows, so I finally got smart and set my DVR to record for an extra 30 min. I rarely watch or record live TV so I wasn't prepared at all. Now I know why. Anyways watched the first ep. It wasn't bad. It was great to see Mulder & Scully again. But I can't say I really enjoyed it. It was a mytharc/alien conspiracy and I gave up caring about those a long time ago. The next 3 are MOTW eps and I am definitely looking more forward to those. The first aired yesterday (and no football was on) so hoping to watch it tonight. The last 2 are apparently mytharc episodes so meh!

The first episode was fairly incoherent.
Second episode was better.

The first episode was fairly incoherent. Second episode was better. With Chris Carter writing the first ep and James Wong the second, it was a safe bet that would be the case The series was always better when Wong and the Morgan brothers effectively ran it while Carter was off developing Millennium or The Lone Gunmen.

Unfortunately Chris Carter is writing the last 2 episodes too. Edit: And just as a note I met Chris Carter and he's a nice guy. And he did write some classic eps I love. Plus we wouldn't have this series without him. I just don't like the mytharc.

Okay watch episode 2. Yes it was better than the first but still hardly classic X-Files. That being said I did like the stuff with Scully & Mulder's son William I also do like how S&M's relationship is being written. A real improvement over the last movie where they were at odds the whole time. Here they show the bonds of two people who have known and worked together for a long time and understand each other. I like that. But while I am watching my favorite X-Files eps neither of these first two eps would be ones I'd want to revisit.

An S&M relationship showing bonds... sounds like a kinky new direction for the franchise!

You remember Mulder liked porn and phone sex (totally canon). And Scully lets not get started on Scully....

After viewing its first 2 episodes of season 10; I can safely report that I didn't at any time feel that I had come across any loathingly bad acting, head spinning poor scripts or a shockingly noticeable reduction in its production quality. All in all, we're in good hands for a faithful and thoughtful continuation of The X-Files franchise based on what was shown within its most recent aired episodes. If I am to be critical, there were times in both episodes that I found myself not as engaged with its subject matter as I would have liked to be. No worries though, word is that episode 3 shows a marked improvement! Even though, I have mostly preferred the monster of the week style of episodes; I found the second story Founders Mutation to be about the same overall appeal quality as to the ongoing story arc conspiracy first episode My Struggle. My viewing grading for the first episode is 5.8/10 and 6.3/10 for the second one. This TV.com link has some informative analysis on the first episode and contributing comments from its members. Warning: several spoiler images from that episode are displayed.

This part of the article kind of hit the nail on the head for me regarding that first episode: {Spoiler}"Mulder had decided that after a lifelong obsession with aliens and much, much anecdotal experience with them, that maybe aliens weren't ever a thing? Like, they existed a long time ago, but ever since then, an evil organization had been PRETENDING to be aliens so that they could plan a mass invasion from within and topple the government. Which meant that abductions and I guess cow mutilations were all done by humans using alien technology. Which, uh. How is that a good twist?" Yeah, I had the same reaction. Um, what?!

Well to be fair the mytharc was pretty nonsensical in the end so so for them starting over from scratch and saying it was all a lie might not be such a bad thing . If only I cared.

With its new episodes spurring on my interest in The X-Files again, today I watched the exceptional S05E12: Bad Blood again. Its opening beginning where we are led to believe that Mulder has over zestfully made a very fatal error in judgment is satisfyingly clever. Always loved that episode's approach of the *he said, she said* account of events from Mulder and Scully. And, I had forgotten that Luke Wilson played the hunky/dorky sheriff.
Unrelated to The X-Files; I'm reminded of the Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth Perkins He Said, She Said romantic comedy - a rather cute movie from 1991!
Perhaps, I'll revisit the comedic S03E20: José Chung's from Outer Space next...

I've enjoyed the new season immensely. It would have been very easy for the show to just do a victory lap, but instead I've been pleased to see that the show is pushing into a new era. The first episode presented a new and intriguing spin on the show's mythology and the second episode had surprisingly strong emotional content in the way it examined the character's reactions to a case. Can't wait to see more and I hope the show will continue with these short season events regularly.

I always preferred the X-Files when they were just looking into extra ordinary events, the increasingly heave arc material just became a painful trudge. Unfortunately by the looks of the trailers I've seen, this mini series is arc heavy, it hasn't peak my interest despite me loving the early original series.

The second and third episodes had no show mythology at all. I'm watching the third episode right now and it's fantastic. One of the really funny ones, and it just completely fits Mulder and Scully to a tee.

"Yeah, this is how I like my Mulder!"... S10E03: Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster is a silly fun monster-of-the-week episode written and directed by Darin Morgan. The same writer that penned S03E04: Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose and 3 other fan favourite stories. If you can overlook some of its hokiness and pacing imperfections, then you'll probably be finding yourself greatly enjoying this episode. 8/10

Favorite so far even bought the ep off I-Tunes bc I want to encourage them to make more episodes like this.
And with the ratings success I feel more episodes are inevitable.

I have a feeling it's all about the 2 leads. If they are willing (and paid well), then there will be more episodes.
