I’m not quite sure what to say about Echoes of War, I think it’s a hard one to sort of review on its own. It’s very much a bridge between The Starship of Theseus and The Conscript; literally the travel from the events of the first episode to the third. It just seems to be building up towards the final 10 minutes. That said, it isn’t really a criticism, it’s a good listen and the final act is very good.
I listened to The Conscript last night, enjoyed it and then went to bed. I woke up today and remembered absolutely nothing from it bar enjoying it, bizarrely! So I’ve given it another listen and it’s another great instalment. It’s a really fun story for the Doctor for the most part, with undercurrents of the dark reality of the Time War, and the decision he must ultimately make, throughout. There’s some great world building of how Gallifrey recruits and treats its soldiers too.

Is it wrong that I would love a Dirty Dozen style release set during the Time War with the Doctor leading a squad of renegade Time Lords on a impossible mission? Featuring at least 2 incarnations of the Master?

I wanted a War Doctor set with him and Ollistra forced to travel with a group of scavengers on the fringes of the Time War that will assist whichever side brings in the profit. Doctor Who meets Firefly, basically.

Anyone else expect the Nimon to be the ones demanding the toll in the first story? The name of the ship, the travel short cut, the energy transfer from victims? Anyone? No? Weakling scum!

It's been a while since I was so top-to-bottom entertained with a boxset release, and it was great seeing the Time aspect of the Time War embraced more than the War part. Really hope this momentum continues!
Also, in Part 4, was this the first time... that particular gadget from the TV show was used in a Big Finish release?

Echoes of War - kept the very high standard from the first story. So good to see actual time shenanigans going on. I'd say, for me, that Nick Briggs work as Dal is the best stuff he has done in quite a while.
This box set is on course to be a total winner.

And that’s the set finished. I thought One Life was quite a low key finale, mostly chatting aboard the TARDIS, but suitably high concept and there’s some lovely stuff in there. I’m glad that Big Finish have now got the TARDIS console room humming effect; I thought that was noticeably absent in the War and Tenth Doctor releases, so I hope it’s put to use in future stories.
I think the weak link in the set has been Bliss. She hasn’t done a great deal and spends very little time with the Doctor; I don’t really get a sense of her character.
Great set overall, however. I’ve enjoyed each story and I think they’ve included varied and interesting high concept ideas. I’ve also liked the portrayal of the Doctor and his promise to help where he can but will not fight. I’m still not quite persuaded about it being a four set range, but I am looking forward to another instalment and I hope Bliss is better served.

Between Echoes of War and Across the Darkened City from The First Doctor Companion Chronicles v.2, it has been a banner year for Nick and his ring modulator.

Rakhee Thakrar is atrocious in the role of Bliss - completely unbelievable. I think it's more that the stories limited her. She only shows up at the end in Starship, is completely sidelined in Conscript, One Life doesn't have much for her to do.

The Conscript - Another quality instalment but not up to the previous twos standards. Not that means it was bad just had a lot to match up to.
I think what dragged it down it down for me was it was a tad clichéd in regards to army training. Nothing we haven't seen before in a hundred other shows.
However McGann was on fine form as ever, he's really doing great work in this box set. Not that he doesn't always give 100% but he is excelling here.

All it was missing was the bullying career soldier who wound up respecting the Doctor by the end.

Still awaiting my Boxset, were is it Big Finish? Same here dude Patience gentlemen, don't you know there's a (Time) war on? (I usually put delays down to the post rather than BF - I've known BF send me two items on successive days and the second one arrives several days before the first! Second Class post is not First Class post but I don't mind a bit of randomness when BF are still giving us free UK delivery on pre-orders. And free downloads of course, those help my patience no end when it comes to waiting for the actual CDs to arrive. )

So that's the box set finished. I would call it a triumph. I thought One Life was up there with the first 2 stories. The only niggle is that I never really sensed any chemistry between Rupa and Quarren and as such it didn't really pull on the heart strings when she forgot him. I loved the interplay between 8th and Olistra. Lots of snidey digs at each other delivered perfectly. Thoroughly enjoyable release
