So you sweepingly dismiss lots and lots of performers as they've been in EastEnders? Unless I see them in something that I watch anyway and change my mind. You actually change your mind on things?!!!

forgive me if I don't jump for joy over yet another female companion......yawn I am sure she will be fine, but I am afraid I am getting very tired of the female companions BF always create for the eighth doctor. ...honestly I agree, and the same holds true for all the doctors. None of the actresses/characters have been bad but truth be told I'm getting a tad bored with young female companions, at least she is an ethnic minority companion so that shakes things up a bit, but the Doctor/male companion angle is a really interesting one and operates in a very different way (two of my three favourite companions are Fitz and Jamie) but it's been very underused by both the TV series and BF i.m.o. Maybe it's a personal preference of the Doctors to have female companions (Colin hasn't had a male companion other than Frobisher in two stories 15+ years ago...) but it's a shame BF seem to be reluctant to go down than route. I suppose with the 8th Doctor there's an argument to be made that a female companion works better as a counterpoint/fit with his idealistic, romanticist personality but in the novels Fitz's lazy, sarcastic and blunt mode of thinking deliberately worked against that expectation and made for a much more interesting tardis team.

I've been wanting an original male companion for ages. Last time we heard one debut was Oliver Harper back in 2011. The Sixth Doctor did travel with Thomas Brewster for a brief time early 2011. I don't mind if they are with a female companion, as long as there's no romance between them, for example Ace and Hex.

I'm always a little amused when they hype up an actor announcement, and then when it comes down, my only reaction is "who?"

For me, a female companion seems more traditional than any other combination. There is no rhyme or reason to why it should be like that, as I loved Jamie and Turlough, but The Doctor with just one female companion seems to work. (?)

To be fair, I don't live in the UK, so it's very rare I actually recognise the name. Last one I knew already was Miranda Raison, and that was because she'd done a few Big Finish audios before then as well as been on the New Series.

How is Eastenders any worse than Casualty or Holby City? And she isn't an Eastenders actress, she's an actress who happens to be well known for being in Eastenders. This is an industry. People take jobs to pay bills, it's grossly unfair to judge them for doing so. If you've seen her and didn't like her performance then fair do's. Final thought for you to consider. If you complete your media degree and were offered a job on Eastenders, would you turn it down as being beneath you?

The First Doctor, Steven and Oliver were wonderful, and there was untapped potential with Brewster and C'rizz. Question is, will Bliss stand out immediately or will it take time like Helen did to me?

If it were me, I'd be thinking a job's a job and it's not always a market to be picky about what you get offered. Try to build up some name recognition to get onto other projects and build up an acting portfolio. Make connections with other actors to improve the chances of other projects.

Just shouting all the time. You have to turn the volume down on the TV it's that bad! No, but I would make suggestions to the director and writers as in 'Have you thought about doing this instead?'. 'Have you thought about not getting the actors to shout all the flipping time?' would be one to the various directors of each episode.

The door wouldn't hit your arse on the way out if you started telling established professionals how to do their job.

Love this news! Brilliant actress, I really wanted her to be the new companion in Series 10 so I'm thrilled by this!

No, but I would make suggestions to the director and writers as in 'Have you thought about doing this instead?'. 'Have you thought about not getting the actors to shout all the flipping time?' would be one to the various directors of each episode. Depends on how much creative input you'd have, especially if you were new on the show. It's easy enough to write out or kill off a character who has't been around long because the actor is a pain behind the scenes. Matthew Waterhouse, an inexperienced actor, gave another actor acting tips and guess who got killed off in Earthshock. An actor who has been around for years might have more influence, but not a newbie. Listen to the trailers and the promotional material for the Eighth Doctor Time War sets, then make your mind up based on that. Soap operas and audio drama are different kinds of storytelling, so have different styles of acting.

Yes please, loved Perkins (Skinner's done a couple of BF stories already so I;m sure he'd leap at the chance to do more). I've already suggested that them plus Shona from Last Christmas would make a good tardis team...

To be fair if I lived in the East End of London with people like those seen in the program I'd probably be angry and shouty a lot of the time as well...
