I'm still pondering on the implications of Jack wearing a not-very-Victorian shirt & T-shirt with his period whiskers. Is he attempting (badly) to fit in or is he just making a statement? The former seems somewhat unlikely for a man who dresses like Jack does!

Unless I'm mad the theme music has been redone with lots more piano and some sweeping strings. Just started listening in the office between meetings

A nice little piece, through and through. Not sure how it connects to the larger plot, but still a good audio.

This has been the least enjoyable of the Torchwood releases for me. I liked it, but the writing felt really clunky at times and I feel that this was the poorest performance from Barrowman. I didn't think Queen Victoria's character was the same woman whom we saw in Tooth and Claw, although I do understand that she was 20 years older. Rowena Cooper did a terrific job with the part, though. To be honest I was hoping for more with this release.

I agree this Victoria is nothing like we might have expected but for me that's the heart of this story. Not the very best but a lot to enjoy here

At the end, the hint that the Committee was behind it doesn't bode well for me as that arc isn't doing anything for me. Cheers Tony

For me it is actually Queen Victoria's story. I didn't mind the vague link at the end, and I think Jack is subdued as it isn't his story - thoughts here

Cheers Tony Quote from James Goss in this months VORTEX “Well, the Committee are still beavering away in the background, and their terrible work turns up here and there. Mostly, however, it’s six standalone adventures"
What's the point continuing an Arc element then, especially as the series finale of series 1 had nothing to do with them and a third series looks unlikely?

I've been very much out the loop on BF the past month - why is a Series 3 unlikely? I know Eve is offski but since BF are doing the series as almost anthology like solo stories, Gwen can be written around. Especially with the prospect of having Susie, Andy and Yvonne stories from time to time meaning the small hub team doesn't need to be all there is. I'm not fussed about the arc going nowhere and not being important. If it was nothing but a McGuffin, fair enough. Sometimes the Maltese Falcon is just a pretty statue that motivates our antagonists to propel the story. There doesn't need to be an epic denouement. I'd rather we got six strong standalones than 3 standalones and 3 forced arc-heavy stories just because "seasons" need a big bad. I think the X-Files miniseries just proved that!

If future series depend on the second string then "Ghost Mission" has a lot do to ensure it IMO, as JB and NM have both said they find it hard to find time for recording and BG not been mentioned at all despite what was said at BF Day about someone being conspicuously absent.
As for Arcs I agree I'd rather we had six strong stand alones but we didn't, we had a heavy set up opener, varying degrees of continuation/more set up in the following 4, come season finale nothing.

Unless I'm mad the theme music has been redone with lots more piano and some sweeping strings. Just started listening in the office between meetings I noticed that, too. Listened to it this evening on the way home from work. Fun, enjoyable little story, if a bit implausible. I don't find the idea of Queen Victoria running around London with Jack chasing an alien too realistic.

Second listen: Not much too it but still fun. Still better than Uncanny Valley, in any case.
Didn't think there was much of a connection to the overall arc, but after listening to Zone 10 that might not be the case.
