Red Dawn
WOLVERINES! It's okay, I guess. I had convinced myself that this was Peri's audio debut even though I just listened to Whispers of Terror not two weeks ago and really liked it. I think my brain is collapsing in on itself. I do like her as a pair with Davison, though, and I like that Big Finish gave them quite a run together. Though, I don't think they've done so recently... I appreciate the attempt to give some depth to the Ice Warriors, but I'm not sure it works out as well as it should. The guest cast underperforms considering what a strong bunch of actors they are. In general, I think the ideas of the story are interesting on paper but the execution is just really unremarkable and workmanlike. Not a lot else to say about it, really. Ready to get back to 6/Evelyn now. Polly, are you doing a listen through, in order, of the Monthly Range and if so, what's up next?

Now for something completely different- Torchwood Outbreak. My first longer Torchwood adventure ever. I decided on that one since it is pretty stand-alone and I felt like some horror mixed in with some personal drama and emotion. And what can I say, it is pretty good. Quite visceral with the blood and gore, but is it me or did they cut back the swearing a bit? Plus, Captain Jack is not annoying. Actually, great performance by John Barrowman, he really sold it.
Just the resolution is a bit of a let-down.

That one is in the Torchwood thread.
This might be another one you might enjoy since it is light on the things you (and I) try to avoid.
Which is the reason I decided on getting it (I did some research beforehand to see if it would affect me or not).
It was fine, a well performed adventure, low on the much feared moroseness and bleakness Torchwood is so famous for (and which I do not think I could handle).
And John Barrowman is indeed (nearly) acting his pretty butt off in this one, he is great.

Have no problem with John Barrowman I loved him in Arrow Torchwood is for later in my life when I have run out of things I really enjoy. It just never grabbed me at all as you know. am just watching some Farscape stuff and now an interview CON with Claudia Black and Ben Browder and am totally hooked on these two again This was one show I was introduced to by my sisters normally am the introducer but I had got back from Saudi and they showed me this show and I thought wow these are great actors and listening to the two even at a con there is real chemistry. Geez to have this show on audio would blow me away more than Space 1999 Torchwood I guess will never be my thing tbh even with Jo Grant or with Fendahls lol Barrowman versus Barrowman- Crichton wins

Finishing off the new Benny Unbound set. Really nice stuff. Plus it's lovely to see fans get to write for a beloved character.

The Phantom of the Opera
That was brilliant, a gripping BF Classics adaptation by Barnaby Edwards, a wonderful use of music and sound design and a very impressive cast giving the performances you'd expect. Splendidly atmospheric and strikes every note perfectly - the beauty of the music, the unexpected comedy of the two Managers, the drama, the mystery, the romance and the tragedy - and the 'horror, horror, horror...!'
What a treat to find such a gem lurking in my backlog of CDs (in Box 5 of course ) Encore!

Torchwood I guess will never be my thing tbh even with Jo Grant or with Fendahls lol I'd bet you'd at least really enjoy The Green Life. Don't let the range put you off, it could have easily been a full-cast Companion Chronicle with a very special guest star, who could pass up a thing like that? :-)

The New Counter-Measures: The Hollow King. The story where we finally see how good the 70's team could be.
CC: The Forbidden Time. I wanted it to be so much better than it was. It's an interesting concept, and I love Anneke Wills as a narrator, but there was soooo much exposition and it just didn't keep my attention.

After last nights very Freaky Ravenous Nightmare something less devouring i think tonight .
Will stick with McGann-Seasons of Fear maybe i will dream of time jumping all over the place instead of being eaten alive while constantly regenerating in a room full of corpses. 🙏

And of course the 8th Doctor shirtless scenes (although that might be just the opposite of a nightmare ) Plus, my absolute favorite bit: „Do they have orgies?“ - „ Charlotte Pollard!“ I love seasons of fear.

Polly, are you doing a listen through, in order, of the Monthly Range and if so, what's up next? Sort of. I'm working my way through my download list in more or less release order, so in the beginning that's Main Range by itself for a while. I'm currently working on Spectre of Lanyon Moor, hoping to polish it off tonight. I might take a break from the MR after #10-ish to dust off what few Benny CDs I have.

The Spectre of Lanyon Moor
You know, looking back over the first nine MR releases, it's impressive how quickly BF established itself as a real successor to the classic series. Three doctors, four companions and now the dear ol' Brig, all played by their original actors. Plus Daleks and Ice Warriors. Plus a wealth of very interesting new ideas. I miss Nick Courtney. He had such a wonderful voice for audio. I'm glad we have some releases with him at Big Finish, at least. Between this and Whispers of Terror, I have to say that Sixie works well with spooky stories. It just seems to fit Colin. I really think the biggest thing missing from Who during his tenure was atmosphere. Speaking of Colin, I damn near cheered out loud when he told off Professor Morgan. How many hundreds of completely unreasonable authority figures have we had to put up with throughout the history of Doctor Who? It's so satisfying to hear the Doctor just go off on one. I love that Evelyn is totally game for a bit of B&E. It's fantastic to have Colin and the Brig together at last, and they're given quite a good script to do it with. Yes, it's about space goblins, but damn if it ain't moody. And yet, in a way, it's extremely cozy. Feels like Doctor Who comfort food without being too much of a rehash. Very good indeed. {Spoiler} I was kind of surprised by the Crowley stuff. Also the dogs turning on Mrs Moynahan at the end there is really frakkin grisly.
