The Planet of Witches (Alan Barnes)
After last years disastrous 'An Alien Werewolf in London' it is good to see Mr Barnes back on top form. Even if certain story elements did remind me of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Zagreus, from the early time Zagreus, after 49 Zagreus, an adventure that I'm sure I'll be repeating! It took a while to get through 'cause it's an epic... and it does some very unexpected things... and I loved it!
Now on with my journey through the unknown (by me) early MR... into The Divergent Universe...
I quite like Zagreus as well. There must be dozens of us! As for our namesake storyline....well good luck with that lol

Scherzo
Well... it's certainly unique, distinctive and imaginative and with two pitch-perfect performances but did I like it? Honestly, not much.
I try to know as little as possible about these "new" stories as I'm working slowly through the old MR and it's fun (though rarely successful) trying to guess the author as I listen. And this time I guessed right about halfway through. I know many fans rate his MR stories as the best of the best (and 'The Chimes of Midnight' is brilliant) but here once again there's something in Robert Shearman's writing that I'm simply not in tune with. For some reason I just don't hear the music that others do.

Segun Akinola, Series 12 Soundtrack.
Among the many things YouTube comment-leavers dislike about Doctor Who currently is that they miss the music of Murray Gold. Why do I read these comments? Because they are there and I have no self-discipline. I loved a lot of Murray's music, but I did, if I'm honest, find it a little intrusive from time to time. Besides, he was with the show for 12 years - only Dudley Simpson did more.
For me, Segun's music for Doctor Who has been some of the best the show has ever known. I was immediately struck by his sense of mood and ambience (bear with me, I'm trying to sound like I know what I'm talking about) during those early, mysterious moments of The Woman Who Fell to Earth and I've loved his work ever since/ One of his best scores, in my view, comes from my least favourite story from Series 11, The Tsuranga Conundrum: a hugely expansive score, truly alien.
Today I'm listening to Segun's music for Seres 12, and immediately it is slightly less introspective and more spectacular, echoing the change in pace of this latest series. One thing remains the same though - it is an excellent 2-CD soundtrack and I love it all over again. Especially recommended for headphones, but recommended nonetheless!

Just a note on The Transcendence of Ephros, which is even better on a second listen. I love the grumpy Yorkshire bloke who is running the Galactos Corporation. Super sound design throughout also.
I'm also a huge fan of The Hidden Realm. It is fairly straightforward but hey, so am I. Volume 2 is my favourite I think, and Tim Trelore is amazing as the Third Doctor.

Flip Flop is up next, and I wanted to ask, black first or white first, for a first listen? I listened to White first because that's how it downloaded for me. White typically moves first in chess anyway.

White typically moves first in chess anyway. Ah, chess logic. I like it. I ended up doing Black first because that's how it downloaded on the app. It's been interesting so far.

Torchwood The Dying Room.
This was excellent, Herr Grau being the nasty highlight. 8 out of 10.
I'm having an early night with J&L 7.3. Murder at Morsey Manor.

Continuing with Childhood's end. Enjoying myself so far (one third into the story). Solid story, Sophie is doing a good job narrating- so this is some nice relaxing evenings entertainment.

After really enjoying The Dying Room yesterday I'm going to do a bit of a Torchwood catch up at some point today, but as usual will jump around the ranges.
Today's hit list (as they happen):

R&J. Again. Needed something to cheer me up. Still think this is very clever. Now on to something completely different and slightly embarrassing. Yes, I finally dare to enter the Ultimate Adventure. OMG. Just how embarrassing is this going to get? Edit: Finished it. Phooey. Well, this was less painful than expected. Although, not by much.

3DA's - Storm of the Horofax.
With the third boxset of Third Doctor stories, The Conquest of Far drew the most comment. Daleks tend to hog the limelight! But as ever, the other 'quieter' story - although it's not quiet at all - is also massively enjoyable. A bit of social comment, lots of boats and helicopters, a sniffly Jo Grant and Robin Weaver scaring everybody as Arianda. Jamie Robertson's music also deserves a mention, treading the line between Dudley Simpson-esque moments, and bombastic Hollywood blockbuster music to highlight the action sequences. Loved it.

The Eighth Doctor : Time War 2
With the Twelve making a return in volume 4 I decided to revisit her introduction.
Two stories into this set and I am enjoying it so much more than air did the first time around. The second story is so laugh out loud funny.

Pathfinder Legends- The Skinsaw Murders. And what did you think of it? I wish Big Finish still made these Pathfinder Legends audios - it was a great range.

Listening to The Box Of Delights Podcast. It’s quite short 15 minutes per episode, and it’s about ones discussing their favourite tv moments. Warning it can get very sweary, but it is funny.

Punchline (Robert Shearman)
I say this with no word of a lie. This is one of the best Doctor Who stories out there. Even if it isn't officially a Doctor Who adventure. Due to how enigmatic parts of it are I think you could quite easily slot this in somewhere in continuity, say for example during Seventh's later years where he is travelling alone. Would highly recommend.

Crush by Guy Adams
I know others weren't that enthralled with this opening episode of The Lives of Captain Jack Volume 3, but I thought it just a very heartfelt adventure between two friends. The chemistry between Camille Coduri and John Barrowman actually may be one of the best pairing to happen from a NuWho perspective, and Crush showcases this. I said this in my review for Dark Universe, but Adams is always able to write high quality dialogue, and yet I think he has outdone himself here. Every line just feels like the best parts of both characters, and allows for the actors to really play to their strengths.
I wasn't expecting the episode to be a close-quarters murder mystery, but I think that really helped me just enjoy the ride, as I wasn't expecting anything one way or another based on the synopsis. The pacing was good, with clues being doled out with time to breathe in between each of them. Moments such as Jackie being so afraid to let someone die alone really spoke to me as well as highlighted the character. One of my favourite stories in TLOCJ actually.

Finished Cyberman 4 Telos for the Cyber-Marathon, I ended up listening to halves of it on two different days but things were none the worse for the interruption. I really enjoyed revisiting the series. I also started Sword of Orion and got interrupted again early into it so I might start over. I've never listened to it on the heels of the Cyberman series before, that seems to give a very different perspective and a whole new appreciation. I usually listen to Sword of Orion immediately following Storm Warning, and to me it feels like a slow burner that's a bit anticlimactic after that.
