Fair assessment.
I am not really that much into Torchwood, but Dead Man's Switch is amazing. I fell in love with Billis.
out of curiosity is Dead Man’s Switch something that can be listened to if you aren’t that familiar with Torchwood? I’ve been curious about that one for a while🤔 Well, I am not familiar with Torchwood. Never saw the TV show. Only dabbled in a few monthly audio releases so far.
But. Dead Man's switch is simply amazing, even taken as an independent thriller/ horror piece.
Go right ahead. It is great.
In a dark and twisted way.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

The Juggernauts
Fantastic story. Nice to see a little more of Mel’s social side as well as some steel in her nature. Probably the best story I’ve heard her in for a while (like a lot of people I wasn’t keen on Mel but I always thought Bonnie did an excellent job with the frequently awful material she was give in her original TV run).

Counter-Measures: State of Emergency
A good political thriller, backstabbing aplenty. I’ve quite enjoyed Counter-Measures Series 1. The series has a clear identity, the cast revive their Remembrance dynamic with ease, Sir Toby is a great addition and plenty of original ideas and concepts (not a single returning monster in the entire set-What a rarity these days). I won’t be rushing to buy Series 2, but will certainly give it a look should it be on sale.

Most recently I have listened to:
Missy Series 2
Still fun, darkly whimsical, and a bit fairytale in places, but I think I prefer Volume 1 over this. The Lumiat was a clever concept and answered a question I had about the Master. Still love Missy being evil Mary Poppins and the dynamic between her and the monk😁
The Picture of Dorian Grey
Loved this adaptation and loved Alexander Vlahos as Dorian😀 Also enjoyed the first episode of “Confessions” and the clever meta twist! Definitely going to try more “Confessions”!
The Wrong Doctors Clever but confusing story set in Mel’s home town. Mel is much better on audio I think 🤔🙂
Classic Doctors New Monsters Sixie’s story with Kybo was my favorite😀It was brilliant! Beautiful, tragic and very human! Can kybo please get a sequel story?😊
The Behemoth I’m not one for pure historicals normally but this one had some interesting twists to it! I enjoyed 6’s little romantic escapades and Lady Clara.
The War Master: Only The Good Even though Missy is still my favorite incarnation of the Master, Derek Jacobi is completely terrifying!😱I think he’s the scariest incarnation of Master because of how he comes across as a seemingly sweet old man until his evil manipulative side comes out! The Sky Man is definitely the stand out story for me! Very well paced and the tone shift is horrific!
Currently on The Lovecraft Invasion and then Time Apart!

Destiny of the Doctor: Hunters of Earth
An interesting tale to kick off the saga. The pre-Unearthly Child characterisation of the Doctor and Susan works well and Carole Ann Ford is a good narrator.

Just for info, Series 2 has an even more defined feel to it, with a very interesting (and quite sinister) thread running through it which involves one of the main protagonists. Series 1 was brilliant, series 2 is even better.

Destiny of the Doctor: Shadow of Death
Frazer Hines’ take on Troughton is damn uncanny and the story was a nice twist on the traditional base under siege.

Finished Jago and Litefoot Series 2. Did not like this as much as the first one or the ones coming after. But I am just not very much into Vampires. Still, the two gents are just a joy listening to.

Siren’s Gold (Trevor Van Winkle)
Dodgy accents aside, this was a fun little pirate story.
Strangely enough, I’ve noticed that the pirate genre (or sub genre I guess?) seems not have much presence when it comes to the audio format. Or maybe I’m just not looking in the right places.

The Blue Tooth
This is one of the better Cybermen stories because it puts the emphasis firmly on the body and medical horror. They shouldn't be stompy, they should be scary as hell. The living metal is a nice twist, and having cybermats burst from various places is quite nasty indeed. We effectively get a first-person description of what being converted is like. It fits in rather nicely with Season 7's tone, being firmly grounded in the real world in spite of all the sci-fi nonsense. I'm quite fond of that season, and certainly won't say no to more stories in that vein.
I've always liked Liz Shaw quite a bit. I thought it was a real sadness that she was replaced so quickly. But it also leaves Big Finish room to play, and Caroline John makes a fine storyteller on audio. Really a great choice for a range like this, since there's so much left to tell. I like the way her Companion Chronicles build up to her off-screen departure little by little.
The ending doesn't quite live up to the rest of the story and loses a bit of steam, but that's also in keeping with Season 7, in a way. Good stuff nonetheless.

Ok.. I am packed, ready to go to hospital in 1 hours time. My listening picks downloaded to my phone :
"Dark Shadows - Beyond The Grave" can never listen to this one enough. "Dark Shadows- The Happier Dead" patients in hospital cannot die. This will be my fourth operation overall in 2 years, the 4th time listening to this one specifically while in hospital. "The Night Of The Triffids". I bought this direct from BF upon its release and heard it but was distracted. Starting it fresh.
