Worked all day yesterday (a Saturday) so I'm a bit sore (was on my feet all day, must have walked over 10 miles and lots of heavy lifting) so starting the day in bed checking out the cricket, rewound to the 04:30am start.
Next up will be MR: The Stones of Venice (which I do like, it is both arty and ridiculous at the same time)

First half of Subterfuge. Not a bad story - like it more than the first time around.

Third Doctor Adventures - Prisoners of the Lake.
Seems strange to hear stories from this range with Tim Treloar's narration, but I still think it is one of the best stories.

Lepidoptery for Beginners (John Dorney)
Jolly good fun this. And Iolus Blue is definitely one of the more memorable one off villains Doctor Who has produced.

Today I finished off 'The Boy Who Time Forgot', which I enjoyed fine enough (though I can see the 'Your Mileage Might Vary') before making a start on 'Time Reef' part 1.

This Sporting Life (Una McCormack)
A neat science fiction take on a famous moment in British sport.

Bernice Summerfield - Legion: Vesuvius Falling
Hey, did you know that it's been four years since Peter last saw his mum? Because they really wanted to make sure you knew it had been four years since he last saw his mum, and it was clearly a very long four years for him. And he had to do a lot of things in those four years that his mum wouldn't have approved of, but it was four years and she wasn't there for them and a lot can happen in four years...
Okay, I'm being quite facetious here, but I was absolutely sick of hearing how long it had been within the first ten minutes. Thankfully, the plot kicked in after and it was actually quite good (seriously!), but then we got the epilogue and we're back to the "four years" stuff again. I'm desperately hoping I'm not going to have sit through more of this for the rest of the set.
I've always had one minor problem with Benny and Peter's relationship though - nine times out of ten, they've never actually be friendly to one another. If you actually listen to the way they talk to and treat each other in the Single Releases range, they don't have a very good relationship at all, bar the very occasional moment here and there (which were very much the exceptions to the rule). I honestly don't understand why there's so much tension between them here as it's pretty the exact same relationship they've always had as far as I'm concerned. Is there a lot more stuff with them being really friendly in the novels? If not, then I really can't understand what's supposed to have changed in their dynamic, and the dialogue telling me things are different isn't going to convince me if the performances are the same.
Just want to reiterate that I genuinely enjoyed the plot of this story! It's just I've got some issues with the surrounding material.

Finally got around to Free Speech. As always with the Paul Spragg winners, this was a well done character focused story.

Paddington Goes to Town (Michael Bond)
Read by Bernard Cribbins. Definitely the funniest set of Paddington stories I have listened to so far.

On the way home from a visit to work today I listened to 'Time Reef'. Whilst I have been enjoying it fine enough, I'm glad that it's 'only' 3episodes long...

Torchwood: Dissected
Revisiting nearly a year since its release, it’s a good two hander for Martha and Gwen and a unique perspective on events.

The Memory Cheats (Simon Guerrier)
Certainly not the best Companion Chronicle the range or even the Second Doctor has to offer but I do enjoy the almost Grimm’s fairy tale like setting and the framing device is definitely very intriguing.

The Curse of the Fugue (Alice Cavender)
Thought it started off a bit shaky when it came to Sheridan Smith's reading at the beginning but thankfully she seemed to quickly settle into it. It's a quite poignant story and I like a lot of the themes it touches on. Very much what a Short Trip is meant to do now that I think about it.

Torchwood: Outbreak“For now it’s recommended you follow the advice of the official police statement: stay at home, stay safe.”Well yikes this hit harder than it would’ve back in 2016. A decent showing for the trio. Gwen didn’t get much to do, but when she was involved was used well, Jack and Ianto had some nice stuff and Norton’s involvement was great. {Spoiler} I wasn’t overly keen on the implications this was all a big government conspiracy behind the scenes. It all being a mess brought about by unethical experiments and being opportunistically seized on seemed more compelling. Especially as the minister involved doesn’t even get a name. Also can’t help but compare this to Children of Earth, given the timeline setting, which does an infinitely better job of humanising the people in power and showing the horrible logic of why they make the absolutely terrifying decisions that they do.

A Perfect World - Not really a favourite, but it was a sweet enough end to the 5/Nyssa/Brewster trilogy
Cuddlesome - Whilst I don't know if I quite loved it as much as I did when it first came out (a month before my 15th birthday), this was a pretty fun adventure & a decent way of spending my break at work/the walk home.
