You know, now that you mention it, I actually do rather like Attack of the Cybermen ...

BBC audiobook of Doctor Who and the Underworld.
I am having great difficulty taking it seriously - every time I hear Minyan I mentally picture the Minions.

MR 158 Wirrn Isle
Flip was excellent again (yay Flip!) and I liked the setting, and the first half - first 3/4 really - was very good, but then it did rather dissolve into a blizzard of transmat particles. And I didn't like the ending at all.
{Spoiler} Too much equivalence given between humans and Wirrn. Yes, they are intelligent too, but we don't lay eggs in their bodies, do we? They have no need to do this to survive - the Wirrn used their world's "cows'"or "deer" as hosts according to Robert Holmes. Using human 'hosts' is an especially horrible form of invasion, nothing less, not done only to breed, but to take the knowledge from their 'hosts' too. So the Doctor leaving with Nerva City still full of murdered people hosting Wirrn eggs was simply wrong. The risk to humanity was still massive, I don't believe he would have just gone 'sort it out', and left.

Have decided that since there is no more Sylvester on the calendar for 2021, this is a solid time to do a big Seven rewatch/relisten.
Started late last night/early this morning by listening to Sixie's last adventure--with Sylvester's retroactively introductory cameo--in The Brink of Death.

Echoes of Extinction and just started on Master!. Echoes of Extinction was much better than expected, since I was not really too thrilled with TLV overall. But this is good. And Master.... well, there certainly is a lot of villain overacting involved. Perfect and fitting for the character.

No Place Like Home (Iain McLaughlin)
Short and sweet and probably the best story we’ve ever had set entirely within the confines of the TARDIS. (Well, maybe Edge of Destruction is just a tiny bit superior.)
Which in itself says a great deal about the quality of such stories as Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS and The Abandoned.

Relistened to Ravagers today in one sitting and that definitely helped - I got a lot more out of this set this time around - and I didn’t think it was bad the first time around either. I still don’t think this is close to matching Briggs’ best, but there’s still a lot going for this set that makes it worthwhile (and his name is Eccleston).

The Light Keepers (Roy Gill)
Been a while since I listened to The Calendar Man so I thought now would be the perfect time to revisit the Eleventh Doctor Chronicles.
Simon Fisher-Becker is simply fantastic in this and the story isn’t half bad either. I must admit, I’m surprised Big Finish haven’t used Dorium again after this. Strikes me as the perfect sort of character for the likes of say Vienna to bump into.

I love his Emporium.

So I needed a little pick me up at night and started Doomsday Contract when going to bed last night. Well, I can say, this is VERY Douglas Adams. This is nothing to take serious. If you are in the wrong mood, you might even call it silly. Tom is great, though. I bet he loved doing this.

1DA 5.2 The Hollow Crown
Another volume of the 1DAs is saved for me by the historical story! (Vol 3 was the other one.) This was much more as I like it. All of time's a stage, and all the men and women (and Time Lords) merely players...

Primeval (Lance Parkin)
Starts off quite slow and then ends up becoming a fascinating look at Ancient Trakken culture.

Stemming the Tide (Helen Goldwyn)
In which the Tomorrow People does a science fiction take on a lesser known folktale from the British Isles. And yeah, if it can work for Doctor Who (many, many times..) then there’s no reason it can’t work here.
Probably one of the more fantastical tales we’ve ever had from the range but I rather enjoyed it.
