David, seriously, you are over the hard part, and really getting onto the good stuff. I dunno, I have absolutely loved this stuff. Burke Devlin is just wonderful, Roger's a legend and Sam Evans' actor is really fantastic to watch. I like all of them too. The Dark Shadows Every Day blog REALLY doesn't like Sam.

Spoilers? Seriously? On a show that's this old? Sure, everything's new for someone but there has to be a statute of limitations on something like this. I think to be fair, if it's a thread where people are specifically talking about watching something for the first time, it's basic good manners to consider future plot points spoilers. One should behave differently in such a place than one might online generally. I mean, I'd quite happily quote the last line of Some Like It Hot online generally but if someone told me they hadn't seen it, I wouldn't then tell them it... I find it insufferable when people who clearly know someone is doing it for the first time and they say 'oh wait until you get to...' ETA -Actually having read - or mostly had to skim-read - this thread, I think I'll stay away from it for a while. I was seeing lots of stuff I didn't know so I'll hide away from it all.

The Dark Shadows Every Day blog REALLY doesn't like Sam. That's a shame but I've come to accept my love for all things pre-Barnabas may not be popular Sam is not the best written character. He's defined b his relationships to others - he's the alibi for Roger, he's the father to Maggie etc, but as an actor he holds the screen very, very well. He alos hides his fluffs better than anyone, making his hestitations part of the character.

David, seriously, you are over the hard part, and really getting onto the good stuff. I really miss the old pre-Barnabas days. That and Barnabas-Julia-Dave Woodard hs been my favourite stuff. I've just had Eve turn up, I get the impression this isn't regarded as a good period. It's certainly stopped being about anything. Yeah, having finished with Adam and Eve...it was a damp squib. The whole arc, too, not just parts of it. It starts with Barnabas and Julie doing some interesting things to cure him fully and forever but eventually it just makes them Victor and Ygor.

On 657
There's a really weird problem with the tapes from one of the camera, it keeps looking like there are red or green filteres on screen. Very distracting.
Love a paranoid, ranting Mrs Johnson. She should be played like that - gives more of a link to the actress' 1795 counterpart.

My life is so much richer for having loved Dark Shadows. I pity those who haven't seen it or don't "get" it. So true! At the Collinwood Halloween weekend it was so nice to be able to have entire conversations with so many others who "get it". And of course, I was plugging Big Finish every chance I got. I was happy to learn that most of the attendees were at least aware of the audios, and many of them had some, most or all. I won a LOT of raffle prizes--one of which was "The Night Whispers". Of course, I already have it, so I gifted it to a fan who did not! Just spreading the love.

But Pansy Faye man, just excellent The moment that passes between Barnabas and Beth when Pansy shows up is just pure comedy gold. Perfect timing from both of them.

So on 821. Count Petoffi is a real danger, actually scary the things he can do. Magda is a trouble and the gypsy king Johnny Romano had turned up. Actually I'm quite impressed with how I didnt work out a couple of bits like the count digging up another body for the duplicate body part and getting Tate to spruse it up. Was pleasantly suprised that a show 800 something episodes in can still keep me on my toes. Really enjoying it at the moment. But one thing I dont like is the current trend of hitting the women. This had never happened in the show before but it seems to be happenning alot! IT used to be they grabbed the woman by the arm. Now its a full on slap to the face. It bothers me a little!

Glad you're still enjoying the series, Simon! Petofi is something, isn't he? My favorite villain from the show, and my favorite storyline as well.
Great to see you, George!! Was about to go looking. Welcome back! How have you been?

Hello all, last time I was with you I was at 821, currently on 856. It been okay,a little meandery, but alway! enjoyable. Jesus Petofi is alway at Collinwood. Just buy a lock! Kitty Soames has showed up and its good to see KLS back. Quentin has got 3 girls. Pansy Faye needs to buy a new tune. Judith is still crazy. Amanda Harris is ok, like her. Just waiting for it to go mental again. Want to finish off the 1897 /Hand of Petofi storyline and see Trask get him come-upence and also get onto the Leviathan storyline which I have heard bit and bobs about. Is it good or bad? Ooh forgot to mention how enjoyable the melding of the two time-zones are and Julia in the 1897 section was good.

So 1897 done with. there was a bizarre trip back to 1798 for 2 eps. What that was about? Who knows. Now it appears Darks Shadows is now about the day to day running of an antique shop with 2 looney birds running it. Only Dark Shadows right. Also Barnabas is rubbish possesed. Poor Julia only wants some love and Barnabas is knocking her back. Also I really miss Quentin & Pansy Faye(Alrigh' Guv'nor) even if she staked Barnabas.

It's because of Big Finish that I ever first heard of Dark Shadows. 'The Night Whispers' was promoted on their website as something quite important - an actor called Jonathan Frid was returning to play the part of a character called Barnabas for the first time in many years, and apparently that was quite something. I knew nothing about these people, but was intrigued.
Suffice to say, I downloaded the story, was completely blown away by it, and slowly collected all audios before and since then. On the back of that, I also got the coffin-shaped DVD box-set and have spent the last year or so going through that (I believe in savouring things and am in no hurry to finish it).
I'm round about episode 676 at the moment and am thoroughly enjoying Chris's werewolf story, and Barnabas's empathy with him. I was quite glad to see the back of Roger Davis's characters because he had quickly become a posturing bore, but miss Vicki (in all of her incarnations). Dark Shadows is great fun though - I can't believe it took me so long to discover it!
