Apart from passing comments a long time ago are we sure that Big Finish are actually making any active attempt to make these available as downloads? Personally I can't see why they would. They tell us new Benny titles don't sell particularly well, so why put time and effort into old ones? Perhaps a polite email to podcast@bigfinish.co.uk would get a response. It may be the efforts of an individual instead of a team of people. It's not the highest priority with all the new releases being produced.

Since they have already converted a number of titles from CD to Download they will have data to show what incremental sales it will generate.
I'm guessing the answer is, almost none, unless you're able to move to repackaging like they've done with Cyberman.
Now that might be worth doing for the old Benny range - rereleasing it as a series of boxsets with new added extras, including ebooks of the linked stories. Obviously something like that would take ages.

Just adding download as an option to the existing titles would probably make almost no difference. I would absolutely love some repackaged box sets of the old Benny.

They'd need to keep the wonderful Adrian Salmon covers. They're as much a part of the range as Lisa Bowerman. That's how Peter got the cute dog ears and Bev was depicted naked.

Considering that the entire range is complete and that there really isn't anything left to be done, making Benny downloadable is de-facto a pure profit enterprise.
Plus there are probably a number of download-only fans who might be interested because of the Doctor connection but but are turned off from the entire range because they would have to buy cd's if they want to start at the beginning.
Big Finish should just start making the releases available, paying royalties to everyone they have on the books, creating trust accounts for anyone they can't locate.
This isn't rocket-science. An intern could put together the entire program in a couple weeks

An intern could put together the entire program in a couple weeks As mentioned before there's far more at stake. Big Finish need to uphold their reputation, and if they go back on contracts it forms a bad impression no matter how irrelevant some of the terms are 15 years on. What isn't rocket science is how you haven't understood this. If you ran a business and years later went broke the terms of contracts because they weren't relevant in today's market while citing the same argument you give above, you'd lose clients pretty quickly. Big Finish is a business and can't afford a bad reputation it if wants to keep on doing what it is doing. It's by keeping their business practices 100% legal and above book that they're able to have the opportunities they have now, like Nick Briggs's Prisoner or the new series licence for Doctor Who. At least the Benny audios are still legally available at a good price.

There's no way Big Finish would take a reputation hit by paying royalties as if the works had been governed under their standard modern contracts.
Frankly, any member of the production who had an issue (resulting in their colleagues losing money) would be the one who looked like a priss.
"How DARE you fairly compensate me with reasonable royalties??!!"

"How DARE you fairly compensate me with reasonable royalties??!!" I think I might in saying that litigation does not operate on principles of prissiness. Simply being a jerk does not waive one's rights under the law. Nor do I think Big Finish could be said to be unjerky in blithely assuming the ex-post-facto consent of all contractees to their works being made available for download.

Getting back on thread, I'm relistening to the box sets and have rediscovered my love of Benny. Current on Shades of Gray, and am loving it to bits. Very cleverly done.

Better still, email Vortex Mail and ask Nick directly! Pretty sure I did just that sometime in the past few months, sent a similar email to the podcast and it hasn't popped up in either. Either that or I asked about the out of print books.. Memory is getting a little hazy.

Send me a private message and I'll make sure Nick gets it.
Back on track again... Finished Legion today. Really good set, with lots of good twists and interesting set-ups for what's to come. Shades of Gray is esp good, very much like a 70s Amicus portmanteau.

And Gary Russell's suggestion of the arc books being adapted so that there isn't any "gaps" in the audio series. I liked that suggestion.
