The Curse of Fatal Death
Am I the only one who thinks that Jonathan Pryce's voice is quite similar to Anthony Ainley's?

Power of Kroll - What a snoozer! The Swampies look like they're gonna try selling me frozen peas. Not a bad effect for Kroll itself though.

Battlefield and The Ghost Light this morning; The Mysterious Planet for this evening.
First time watching Battlefield and The Ghost Light and I gotta say, I thoroughly enjoyed them both. It’s stories like those that remind me why I love the Seventh Doctor and Ace. It’s the kind of magic I feel when I listen to Love and War or Nightshade.
The Mysterious Planet is an interesting one. I think the relationship between the Doctor and Peri is immediately more fun to watch onscreen than it was in their first season together and I was really fascinated with the non-Trial aspects of the story - which seems to be the case for a lot of people. The Valeyard is a definite highlight, though.

After work this evening I've watched part two of both 'The Ice Warriors' and 'The Ambassadors Of Death' (I'd planned on doing more of the former, but haven't really had the time...)

Started in Revenge of the Cybermen since I got a few Classic serials on Amazon. 5 mins in and we are already knee deep in dead bodies from a recent plague. Off to a good start....

Keys of Marinus. I still think the first season was Who at its most adventurous.

Armageddon Factor - This is not as interesting as I remember it being. Still an improvement over the darn Swampies, though. Plus, there's Drax, who seems like he could end up being Trouble.
Ha ha.

As it's part 2's 35th anniversary, this evening I've been watching 'Revelation Of The Daleks', my second 'Classic' story & one that I'm still fond of to-date...

The Eleventh Hour. Just about a perfect episode.

The Faceless Ones - now with new animated faces.
These animations really are a great addition to the collection, very well done and enjoyable to watch, and with all the original material, recons and interviews too. Plus the steelbooks are works of art and I love this one with the 60s travel poster design.

Hello again.
Army of Ghosts/Doomsday - Daleks v. Cybermen FIGHT!! An emotional farewell to Rose, Mickey and the Tylers. Also some funny cameos in the first episode. Very entertaining.

Ahh, Drax. What a wonderful outlier he is from the typical Time Lord. A shyster who would've been perfectly happy to nobble whomsoever turned up and nick their TARDIS -- if it hadn't been the Doctor (well, even then perhaps...). It's a bit slow at the beginning, but I've a soft spot for The Armageddon Factor. It's its own brand of grim. Quite distinct from its predecessors' body horror. Allegedly, they were originally going to call it just Armageddon, but that was thought a bit too confronting. It's got a nice polish to it. I particularly like that the whole war was contrived for the nastiest of purposes. Not because of any need for power or territory, but because the Shadow was bored. He needed something to distract himself while the Doctor went gallavanting around the universe seeking out segments. Actually, the novelisation drops an interesting little idea into the mix. The Shadow is quite literal, a ghost reconstituted from one of the Doctor's fallen enemies. Makes you think who he might have been. My money's on the Graff Vynda-K.

The War Games episode 3 (with 1 & 2 last night).
I started my Patrick Troughton chronological watch & listen in June 2018 and am just now reaching the end of it. (Starting into Hartnell next - hopefully that'll move faster!)
This is the third time I've watched this serial - only the fourth classic Who I ever watched in the first place, my first Troughton and probably my favourite Troughton! So that's once in 2012 when I first tackled the series, once in 2013 for my 50th Anniversary playlist and once now...
But this time, my wife is joining me, having never seen a black and white Who before - just 80% of the new series, Robot and the TV Movie. Seeing something familiar through fresh eyes is exciting, as the Eleventh Doctor once said to Amy Pond. This experience makes me notice a lot of silly things - we laughed a lot at Ransom's dialogue, for instance, given that he seems to be talking twice as fast as every other character. And there's been a lot of discussion of English actors doing accents, like the German officer whose accent drifts eastward towards Russia once or twice.
But I'm noticing a lot of little things to appreciate as well - for instance, I never thought about the poetic touch that Jamie's last story features a scene where he teams up with a redcoat!
It's been fun so far - finishing the disc with another two episodes tomorrow!

I hadn't heard that idea about the Shadow before. I was going to say the Graff wasn't really aware enough of who the Doctor was to be the Shadow, since he seems to know all about him. But, if it was him, I'm sure the Black Guardian would have filled him in and in the time he's been waiting he probably learned a few things. Honestly though, every time I watch this I end up wishing he was the Crispy Master instead.

It's been fun so far - finishing the disc with another two episodes tomorrow! As a German myself, and as someone who is often quite allergic to bad German accents in Who... I have to say I am pretty impressed with the German accents in the War Games. I even think at least one of the guys is a real German (I have not checked the cast list). I think there is a scene where some guys speak German, as far as I vaguely remember... and I can understand what they are saying. Pretty sure real Germans were involved.
VERY often, when actors try to speak German in Who, I cannot understand what they are saying because it is completely clear they have no clue how to pronounce things and they could as well talk Kisuaheli. One of the most recent offenders is the German officer in Twice upon a Time. Only subtitles revealed what this was supposed to be.
In general, I love the War Games. It is one of my favorite Classic serials.
