Keeper of Traken - I haven't seen this in a long time. Geoffrey Beevers' performance has a bit of extra heft with Big Finish in mind. I find it interesting that Nyssa sort of pulls a Donna Noble - we meet her, we like her, but we leave her behind only for her to join in a later story.

Terror of the Vervoids - I have the new Blu-Ray for season 23 but am watching the extras first, and have not yet started the Special Edition with added special effects.

Watching it on-and-off for the past week, last night I (finally) finished watching 'Earthshock'. I've probably seen this story at least ten or so times, and I still get shivers at the end...

Finished the Visitation. This wasn‘t bad to be honest. And I think I liked the actor turned highwayman best. Nothing beats a lovable rogue.

I always enjoy The Visitation, As you said yesterday, the Terileptils were never one of the best costumes. At the time, I thought it was a sign of me getting older (10) that they seemed so obviously men in rubber outfits, something I had never been so aware of in the past. Casting Michael Robbins as the guest star was a clever move by JNT. I guess it's what they refer these days as being 'Meta' (a self aware joke). A ham actor dissatisfied with how he got typecast in On the Buses, playing a failed actor. Apparently he moaned to the regulars that he was used to far better work than this (!). The outcome was that he had to raise his game, knowingly exaggerating the 'thespian' delivery which worked far better than had he just been portraying a Highwayman. He was rightly praised for putting in a good turn though. Also, casting John Savident (a well known actor - he was in A Clockwork Orange for example) only to have him killed off in the opening scene before the Tardis crew arrive was an interesting move too. Perhaps making use of his limited availability and willingness to do a days work to add Doctor Who to the old CV. A great run, is Season 19. Just a pity they ran out of cash once again towards the season finale...

Well...I put on Disc One of the Faceless Ones which I bought as a Steelbook on the week of release (first opportunity to grab a watch). Selected the surviving episode 1. Great to observe Pat's body language, such as his 'investigating' walk and the way his costume was still very much the First Doctor's but as a more shabby, and baggy (out size) make do outfit. Makes one appreciate how brilliant his reinvention of the lead role was in opening up the possibilities for future incarnations.
Then onto the second, animated episode. Oh dear. Just as I have not got past the first episode of animated The Macra Terror (I skipped to the telesnaps recon), it just does not gel for me. I liked the animations of Invasion, Moonbase and Reign of Terror, but the characters are still too 'off' physically to my mind. It distracts too much, Sorry to be negative as I hate to be so on the forum, but I would rather watch a stylised interpretation from the animation with some atmosphere and artistic flair. Pity, but no, (as Poul said in Robots).
So... onto Masque of Mandragora episode 1, from the BBC Blu-Ray S14 set. A bit less migraine inducing on the eyes..

Started on Black Orchid. And we are off with an unusual start at least. The Cricket scene changes the pace somewhat.
I admit Cricket has always been a well guarded mystery to me. I once made the mistake calling it "fancy version baseball" while living in NZ. I never heard the end of it. I only understood that is was a really complicated game sometimes lasting for days and it was about defending castles. There you go.
Anyways, I always love when we get location filming in Doctor Who.

Black Orchid is an odd one! The last ever pure historical of classic Who! I don’t understand cricket either, I agree with your description of “fancy version baseball”🤔😄 I will be curious what you think of the masked ball scenes those parts of the story are really fun and I love all the crazy outfits they have on!😊

After work last night I watched part 1 of 'Inferno' (it's 50th) and, before bed tonight, I'll probably be watching part 2 of 'Time-Flight'

I've been watching The Green Death over the past couple days. Not a big fan of 6 parters but this one works.

Just a pity they ran out of cash once again towards the season finale... The Terileptils strike me as one of those "nearly there" technologies. The animatronics in the Leader's face are quite good, fairly expressive, but *places hand over face* it sounds like his voice is coming from the back of his skull. Nowadays, with the technology afforded to shows like Farscape or The Dark Crystal, you'd have something quite menacing. Imagine the confrontation with Five and Mace. It straightens its hunch, abruptly six-feet tall, picks up the thespian in one fist and spears him across the room with an angry wail. I really like The Visitation. I think it blends its pseudo- with its -historical quite well.

I love these costumes! I usually enjoy the stories that break the mold the most, and this is basically one of these old Agatha Christie movies with the TARDIS team stuck in. So far I have to say this is by far the most enjoyable of the 5th Doctor TV stories that I have seen.
